Be weary of the customer service, lego fans know how important customer service is because lego is 2nd to none. Bambu labs is the opposite and some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I placed an order for a printer back in September when bricksie first did his sponsor video. I still have not gotten my order . Bambu labs has no customer support phone number here in Canada and you have to do everything via email. You’re lucky to get 1 response a week and if you do they send you a generic “sorry for the inconvenience and we are investigating” message and it’s always in the middle of the night. The product itself seems great but the customer service is just awful. Something to consider before purchasing because you will need tech support, replacement parts, and filament over the course of owning the printer.
All TH-cam video creators should watch this video to learn how to do sponsored content. Seriously -- this was brilliant. Well done. You served your sponsor really well while also serving your watchers/fans by giving us helpful insights! Thank you
Means a lot! That’s why I hardly take sponsorships on my channel. Really hard to make it serve a purpose to my audience, and I think everyone’s tired of VPN Services and Mobile Games. This was a really good match in my eyes!
And that's why I rarely take on sponsorships here on the channel. This is something I'd like people to know about. LEGO is cool, but there's cool things out there too!
This is so seriously cool. It's awesome to see your passion for this come through, and the final result is absolutely glorious. You've got me rethinking some of my sorting system!
I just wish I wasn't so rusty when it comes to 3D. If I had this kind of tech 15/20 years ago when I was in school, today I'd probably have a 3D printing TH-cam channel 😂
Thank you for making the system publicly available! I purchased six Alex drawer cabinets (double stacked, upgraded wheels) after watching your original video. I’ve slowly been printing a mixture of containers, mostly from the gridfinity system, but yours is clearly a superior system! Love the channel and now this.
This is great, Tiago. Kudos for sharing your 3D print files for free. For those of us not able to 3D print just yet, I've found the IKEA Malaren Boxes fit almost perfectly inside the Alex drawers, albeit with a few cms/inches of space at the back of the drawer. They cost about $11AUD each, and one set fits one drawer. I then use plastic drawer dividers from DAISO to further divide the Malaren boxes, which works pretty well. Happy building!
This is the best sponsored Bambu video I've seen. Not only with the practical application, but also not claiming that the sponsor is the best 3D printer ever to have existed while having little experience in the past. 3D printing has came a long way and Bambu has disrupted the market in such a way that almost all new printers are plug and play. Really curious on what you have in mind in the future! Also nice wording "the danish branded brick sizes", combining Lego with something of your own is risky haha. MakerWorld has banned the word as you might have discovered.
Very helpful and relatable video! For the longest time, I thought I wanted my collection in cabinets, but after I recently got some, I realized drawers are so much better from a building perspective. We live the Sterilite life!
Having recently bought an A1 after using an Ender 3 for several years, the ease and quality of life improvements with the A1 really is astounding. My 2019 Slave 1 has been sitting on a 3d printed stand for about 4 years now with zero issues. My DeLorean is on a printed stand too. Couldn't recommend the A1 more!
This is brilliant! Years ago I bought some Alex drawers because I saw them in your videos. When I ran into the same problems, I did something similar, I used a laser cutter to cut organizers that perfectly fit into the drawers. I haven't run the numbers, but my guess is your 3D-printing approach is probably a little more expensive but much easier and less time-consuming.
Great video! Glad you went through all your iterations before showing the 3D-printed solution. It's useful to see lots of different approaches :) I wonder where LEGO get their cabinets?
Pretty cool! And the best part: Imagine finding the perfect inserts now.....and when you need more, finding out they've been discontinued! Not a provlem this way.... I am curious though: for a single drawer, how much time and filament does it take?
Yes. This. All of it. So awesome of you to put the designs up as well! I have two stacked Alex units that I would love to have something like this for! Thanks Tiago!
Tiago! I got my Ikea Alex (after watching your video) a year ago... And ever since then, I've been trying to find sorting boxes for all my lego. You'd think that finding a box of an exact dimension would be easy, but it was anything but. Thank you so much for this.
Those of us who've been here for years know of your genuine pursuit of the optimal storage solution. Good to hear you have found the one that will always work :D
Dude this is the video I've been waiting for! I too found the Alex drawers amazing after watching your video on them and really like the way they fit organizers in them, but now I think you sold me on the 3D printer... Hopefully you can get some commission for selling them!!! This is just incredible Tiago one of the best videos yet! You just made my day!!!
This is really interesting to see! I don't think I'll be buying a printer, but I will keep it in mind if I'm ever looking for one. The one thing I like that from Akro-Mills drawers that you don't have is ease of view. Most of the time, I can glance at a drawer and see what's inside immediately due to the clear drawers. Your collection does look bigger than mine, however, so I respect that you would need a larger scale set up.
I was expecting those printers to cost thousands of dollars, so I was quite taken aback by seeing the affordable prices at the end of the video! Wow, I guess I really had no clue how far 3D printing has come either haha
Question, how many roles of filament did it take to fill one cabinet? Not one draw, but the entire cabinet. Thanks so much. BTW, I have watched your content from your very first video. You never disappoint. It makes me very happy your subscribers have deservedly rounded half a million.
I was thinking the same. How cost effective this solution really is vs just any plastic organizer. I bought some on Amazon and they are a perfect fit. Yes, they have curved corners so you loose a small capacity % but… cmon!)
As a fan of this channel for Lego content, I literally screamed when I heard the instruction of the 3d printers, I'm a huge 3d printer hobbiest so I'm so excited xD and I just got a X1 carbon bambu labs printer :)
Bambu is straight up, my favorite sponsor I have worked with. The printers are so good! I am so excited to upgrade my sorting system with 3d printing. Your solution that you designed is so smart! Utilizing the full volume of a drawer goes a long way when you have hundreds of thousands of pieces. Also brb, printing that filament swatch right now!!
Nice! You might have finally given me a non-frivolous reason to buy a 3D printer. Love that those containers can have thin walls, maximizing storage volume!
Ngl, super satisfying watching your mini inserts all slot into place in the tray and watch the trays all perfectly align with each other in the drawer. Excellent work!!!
Love that they reached out to you to help solve the dilemma of optimally storing Alex drawers! I've struggled with it myself and I agree that it felt like a futile endeavor, but I also found a solution ;) At Target stores in the US, they have storage tray system called Brightroom that actually fits these perfectly! They even have a long version that you can reach the back and you can still see the contents (in both narrow and wide). It's honestly amazing how perfectly they fit. And this may feel like a nitpck (and I apologize in advance), but I would call this "storage" rather than "sorting" as it assumes pieces are already sorted. Though it's quite common to find videos calling this sorting regardless of which step of Lego organizating it falls under. The unfortunate thing is that there are truly so few videos out there that tackle Lego sorting - especially optimally - that it's still often just assumed you've already done the hard part. (Maybe another video topic for you? ;) Still a wonderful video and just love that you finally found a solution as I know what a struggle it can be. And btw, it was fun to actually meet you for a quick second in Billund in September right before Skaerbaek (at the Gastropub on your last night) Cheers! ;)
Totally awesome! You need to design grab tabs into the big containers. Maybe a folding tab on two sides. Then they will be easy to access the back area. 3D printing is a whole new world of possibilities.
Fabric tabs would allow you to grab without having clearance issues as they would just fold down. Just gotta find a good way to attach them. I'm sure there's some kind of rivet stud type of solution.
This is awesome! I can't wait to be able to afford a 3D printer one day! Thanks for sharing this! Even about the drawers I didn't know that they were different sizes and how difficult it is to get the back of them! Thanks again! ❤-Erica
First of all, great project. That said, there are a lot of things that come to my mind as I watch this. For one, I think you missed out on an obvious accessibility feature. By removing a single finger-sized gaps at approximately the 33% position along every axes of the bigger containers, you would have made it way easier to grab those out given how snug you've left the system. Similarly, I think there would have been value in including a tiny little airhole pattern at the bottom of the boxes, since I get the feeling that your current design may cause those to produce a vacuum making it harder to get the bottom ones out. The narrowest/smallest units seem like they might tip over easily, which is a problem since they'll probably contain the tiniest little things imaginable. I get that translucent isn't an option for the filament, but a more neutral white color would make it easier to see the tints of the bricks inside when a container is nearly empty. Dark containers suck up a lot of light! So I would probably have made all of them the same color, but made the 'extra space' boxes recognizable by putting in a tiny little profile on the width end for the sake of easy orientation if you end up taking them out while cleaning and need to put them back afterwards. Finally, I don't know how you have your drawers organized and how much you know based on position alone what's inside, but since you have a lot of them, I would really worry about proper labeling. Those mostly-empty cups seem like they'll take a lot of effort to identify the contents with, either by leaning over so you can look in or by picking the cup out so you can tilt it over.
Those are valid concerns. Let me add one: I'd like the bottom edge of the cups to be curved, not straight. That way it's easier to fish out tiny parts that otherwise would be stuck in the corners.
YUP YUP YUP! I just knew from the thumbnail lol. I got into 3d printing at the beginning of this year cause my parents got me the ender v3 se. Then in the 2nd half of the year I started collecting Lego sets again and now I visit my local PAB wall pretty often to build my parts collection. With all that I had one of these exact same shelves that I cleaned out and I'm currently in the process of printing out all my different containers. But i never took measurements for the Lego pieces, so I didn't feel confident continuing to the bottom 3 shelves. Also i love the Idea of it being modular. I wanted to try that exact idea with a giant box which would have smaller boxes of varying sizes, so thank you for saving me time! I would not have been able to complete this in my own time. Gonna download the STL files soon! I plan on getting my dad, who originally wanted to get a 3d printer, the Bambu lab A1 with the ams lite. Its on sale for black Friday right now, but I plan on getting it in 2 weeks. So maybe once that's ordered and arrived I'll try out the same containers with the Bambu A1.
Wish this was out a month ago. I got a whole shelf's worth of my own containers. They obviously still work and look nice, but damn this looks much better lol
I've already saw it at Bricksies channel, and purchased one with the black friday deal. After my initial few days of "How much usefull/useless stuff I can print", my first test print for lego sorting bins is running right now. The A1 mini is an absolute delight. Thank you very much for sharing your design on makersworld. While I can't use it because I have other bins, I find it superwell designed and really useful. Just one note that you actually need the A1, not the mini to print the larger bins.
My first print of the big container is running now, but 2 corners have let go of the heating plate (due to cooling down and therefore curving the plastic?) Did you encounter this as well? (and if yes, how did you fix it?)
Do you wash your heating plates with water and soap every few prints? One of the more common issues of prints letting go. Also avoid getting your fingers on area where the print is coming.
@HansSiemons Think I found the issue, might have selected the wrong filament type Which probably influences how hot the plate gets, and therefore why the plastic curves or not
I just upgraded from a bin full of individual ziplock bags to drawer cabinet organizers and so far they've been working great for me! Granted, I have a small to mid sized collections but it loads better then the ziplocks! Amazing for my small space as well
Tiago thank you for this video. Excellently done, seriously considering getting your system set up! Can you elaborate on the printing costs to fill one cabinet?
One of my housemates got a 3d printer a year ago to print miniatures, and its been really interesting seeing more and more people realizing how accessible they are and how many hobbies they can support. They definitely felt like a device of the future when I first heard about them, but now they feel almost normal.
I solved this years ago using a very low tech and cheaper solution. I got the $30 craft carts from Michael's and cut card stock paper to make boxes that were the perfect height. in any size I wanted. The sides of the drawers of the craft cart have an angle, which I was able to accommodate by stapling the card stock boxes imperfectly at an angle.
Feedback: I feel like its always better to mention that a video is sponsored right in the beginning. I end up feeling a bit let down/betrayed when finding out I've been watching an ad, no matter how entertaining or helpful it turned out to be.
You could also unscrew the 2 screws that hold the drawer to the metal rails and this would let you slide them all the way out and the rails are tight enough to keep the drawer from falling down.
This looks like an excellent system for the bigger LEGO parts. As for smaller parts, like studs and 1x1 size elements, my fat fingers have a hard time picking those out of small bins with narrow walls relative to depth. In using your system, I might consider a stackable shallow tray insert with internal sub-dividers for the little elements. These could be double stacked in your bins to maximize drawer space. Alternatively, long narrow bins might work, so I could use my thumb-index finger pincer grasp fully extended for a long sweep and pick! Overall, your best storage system yet!
Damnit, i’ve made my own design for 3d printed alex lego storage, and now i’m like 4 spools of filament in and you drop this video with a better system. Now i’ll forever have to live with the fact that my solution could have been better :(
oh god I have to redo all my alex drawers now. this looks great - love the thought about easily sliding into the rear space by only lifting out one large box..
When I saw the thumbnail and title I was like I bet he's going to make those containers Bricksie made as well with that Bambu Lab 3D printer... and yep I was right. But it must be nice the problem is finally solved.
Someone needs to make sure that Adam Savage sees this. Tiago - this is awesome. Makes me wish I had a 3D printer and some space to setup proper sorting/storage for my LEGO collection.
110% drawer sliders will solve the drawer problem easily and they aren't that expensive. Apart from that I would recommend looking at gridfinity, which is arguably one of the best well thought through box system for 3d printing. It was based upon alexanders system, but open source and the community really took hold with ideas. Yes you will still have the side area waste issue, but that will be limited to a maximum of 40mm, which is mostly acceptable. This system is very specific for one type of drawer, gridfinity is pretty much universal.
Gridfinity will make it very hard to reach the end of the drawers. Also, never been able to find drawer sliders that fit the IKEA cabinets, and believe me, I looked!
@@TiagoCatarino Have you seen the video from Jamie Savage regarding first order reviewability? In essence it's about one move to get a particular tool or component. In that regard your system is also not "perfect". as you have to do two steps for the back stuff. But you could easily make a gridfinity masterbox like you have now. Second. For any system to be perfect, you have to essentially design every component yourself, including the cabinet and drawers. There is probably no commonly sold cabinet out there that will fit your exact requirements. You will always be left with odd size boxes like you have now. But again. You made your personal situation much better, for which you should always receive commendations. My modest 20-25 kg lego collection is currently sorted in IKEA Samla boxes, for which I have printed subboxes. For the 1x1 and technics stuff I have some of those small lidded boxes. But I don't have to sort by color, I can easily find the color of a certain item in a mixed box of common elements like the 2x4. To each their own I guess.
This is fantastic! I started using Alex's Sorting System, but I am going to test out your system. While this is a sponsored video, I was able to print it on another company's 3D printer (Pr***) by not printing the initial skirt. The large tray fits the bed perfectly.
it's amazing how easy and accessible 3D printing is these days; Anyway, great job, I love this system compatible with Ikea Alex, it's perfect! Thanks for sharing it with us
While I agree that 3D Printing is definately the best solution for this problem, I wouldn't personally feel comfortable with using Bambu Lab as it does a disservice to the open source nature of the 3D printing community that allowed desktop 3D printers to be a thing. While it may not perferm as well as a Bambu, I've been very happy with my Sovol SV06
Tiago, this is incredible! Your video has rekindled an interest in me towards 3D printing for everyday life! Keep up the great work with your channel and further creations!
3D printing and Lego go hand-in-hand. I've found a lot of reasons to use my printing to build custom display mounts and internal supports (not pure, I know, but it is hidden anyway).

Why don’t you just make drawer organizers out of lego?
That would be be pretty unstable without using Lego glue
I've already saw it at Bricksies channel, and purchased one with the black friday deal. After my initial few days of "How much usefull/useless stuff I can print", my first test print for lego sorting bins is running right now. The A1 mini is an absolute delight.
Thank you very much for sharing your design on makersworld. While I can't use it because I have other bins, I find it superwell designed and really useful. Just one note that you actually need the A1, not the mini to print the larger bins.
My first print of the big container is running now, but 2 corners have let go of the heating plate (due to cooling down and therefore curving the plastic?)
Did you encounter this as well? (and if yes, how did you fix it?)
Do you wash your heating plates with water and soap every few prints? One of the more common issues of prints letting go. Also avoid getting your fingers on area where the print is coming.
@HansSiemons
Think I found the issue, might have selected the wrong filament type
Which probably influences how hot the plate gets, and therefore why the plastic curves or not
@@BuriedDutchman Ah yes, no issues on that here since I use the ams and that autodetects my filament.
As someone with ar least 20k to 25k bricks in a tiny 10x10 room and not enough sorting buckets this is helpful
Same, I always felt this was so out of reach, but I'm happy to be proven wrong, it is really easy to get into it nowadays
Really good sorting system. Will absolutely check it out. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you, Tiago, for the insightful presentation on the 3D printer! I modified the drawers of my Alex unit so they can now (almost) fully extend.
Tiago: look at this cauldron I made, also look at this planter
😂😂😂 you’re having WAY too much fun
😂 well, I'm glad that it shows!! I am having fun!!
Been doing some projects with the kids as well, it's been great!
Well done, Tiago. This was one of the best videos for sorting I've ever watched. Thanks! And thanks for giving the specs for free!
Amazing system and work 👍🙌
I will definitely be purchasing a bamboo lab printer for this!!
3D printing is such a match for Lego, and that's not even talking about posibilities of 3D printed pieces!
You know before I even watched the video I thought it might be 3D printed, very nice to see.
oh my god this is one of the most satisfying videos I've watched all year. From one maker to another thank you for this one
I was just wondering what the measurements are for this cause I don’t own a Bambu but I use one for my program
love Lego and love the sorting system 🔥🔥🔥
HIGHLY relevant to my interest...
This is so satisfying to watch ❤️
As an AFOL and an novice 3D printing enthusiast, this is the best crossover ever!
Perfect fit! So satisfying! 🤩
So now imma have to watch bambu promotion from all lego creators i follow. Great😂
Right?! LOL
More to come 👀
This is the second one I'm watching, bricksie had this on a few months ago 😊 Although Tiago's is of course different 😊
WOW! I never imagined 3D printing would be so accesible, this is game-changing! I have to get one of those.
Wow, that's wild. I've literally been looking into BambuLabs printers this last week! what great timing.
This is absolutely insane! But WOW you are a genius!! Love your creativity!!
I have a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon and I need to start printing LEGO sorting bins! This video inspired me a lot, thanks!
Thanks for sharing it with us
Can confirm, got into 3d printing back in July with an A1 Mini, and just expanded to an A1 as well. Bambu didn’t give them to me for free tho :p
Just downloaded your design from maker world. My P1P is printing it now. Thanks!
Can you do a video for those of us who sort lego by taste?
youtube advertising are getting longer now
Tiago, this is incredible!
Bought mine printer a few months back, and is working on my own system for lego - now i'm considering just adopting this :D
Thank you for posting these files and doing the leg work! I have been sorting out my parts collection and been looking to do something similar.
Change the rails of the drawer for more open
I feel like some cardboard and tape would have been a way cheaper, equally functional end result 😅
As you can see from some of my shots, I've been there 😂
But ain't nobody got time for that!
The most wanted video for me!!!
target has containers that fit in alexes really well
I am already doing the same thing myself. it is a game changer.
i like this video it was again a verry good video thanks tiago!
i think, something like the gridfinity system with some custom containers will do the job here too
Love the video ! It give so much ideas...
Is it noisy when it's printing ?
Thanks for your work !
Man I have like 80 pounds of Lego that I need to sort and this video showed up at the perfect time.
I actually have another like 60 pounds that I have sorted by color already but I’ve been wanting to sort by piece and again this video is perfect.
ive always struggled with 3D printing but maybe i should give it another go with this 3D printer
These A1 printers are really great for complete beginners. Specially the A1 mini that has no major assembly requirements
@ thank you I'm considering purchasing one
