UPDATE 4: If you do the pedal mod in this video, you will need to recalibrate your pedal settings by holding 'start' and 'music' down when turning on the cab to set the new (shorter) max limits. In other words, the pedals will no longer hit the absolute bottom of the calibration bar, so you'll be setting the new "bottom" as the max. This will allow you to still hit maximum speeds when you floor it after the mod. UPDATE 3: I've confirmed that turning on the fan immediately solves the slowdown problem with Outrunners. It seems I only have to do this if the room is particularly warm (I like to run my heat on high in my game room in winter). UPDATE 2: My buddy who is 5'10" was playing this modded cab in complete comfort (he just needed to push the seat back further) so you can use these exact measurements if you are slightly under 6'. UPDATE 1: Brian Sloane commented on a previous upload of this video asking about where I hid the speaker wire from the Bass Shaker. For those of you who are wondering the same thing, the speaker wire tucks in nicely underneath the edge of the bench. If you look closely on the Glamour Shots at the end of the video, you'll be able to see the speaker wire on the right side of the bottom of the bench. An added benefit of dropping the seat is that the sides of the bench turn out to be great armrests when you're playing in automatic!
this is fantastic work!! I'm actually in the process of finishing up my bench mod and did the same thing with dropping the seat instead of just mounting it on the existing height. ill be posting up my video and showcase soon. thanks for the nod!

Awesome mod! The tractor seat is way better than the stock seat. Definately keep the rear lights, they just add to the whole look of it. It would be amazing if you could somehow hook them up to the brake pad so they come on brighter when you brake.
I definitely went down that mental road, but didn't pursue it for two reasons: 1) I am not that confident in my electrical wiring yet. 2) I never use the brake! Thanks for the compliment. I'll definitely wire them up permanently (and maybe make a short video documenting it).
I feel the same way. But I've found modding these cabs is as much (and in some ways more) fun than playing the games. Could A1Up have made it closer to this stock? Totally. All they'd have to do is add a slanted seat back piece and an extra piece of plastic that angles the pedals like I've done with the tablet stand. It would have cost them maybe $15 more. Who knows? Maybe they'll do exactly that for the Daytona cab.
I really appreciate that you showed the work. Great job, great video. Thank you. I'll be following your instructions, but myself and my children are over 6ft so we'll also have to raise the cabinet.
You're welcome! A family of giants will def need to raise the cabinet. Haha. But perhaps not by very much. My friend who's 5'10" is completely comfortable in my setup which surprised me. Just setting the seat back seems to do the trick. Happy modding!
This is dope. XD One thing that I am curious about is that I think it's best to make the adjustment to the "Horizon" game on the monitor to make it eye level with the player or make the horizon in the game above the player's eye level. Anyway, now I want one this is a great vid. XD
@@2Dai4 Dude, I'm thinking of building a PC-based light gun cab with CoinOps, but haven't touched a PC in a decade! (I'm a Mac guy) I could definitely use some guidance.
Great video 💙💚 my question for you is this. I have a 5 year old son. I would love love love to be able to race against him. If I bought a second arcade 1up outrun cabinet is there a way to hook them up so you can race head-to-head like the original game
I do not know how to do this, however, it has been done and the result is fantastic. It'll be a lot of work, but it'll be worth it for the memories with your son. I don't believe the original Outrun was a head to head game, but I know that Outrunners, Power Drift and Outrun 2 were. You'll need to update to PCs to pull this off though. I cannot be done with the stock A1Up PCB. Here's what you want: th-cam.com/video/RNBqzXC0oVc/w-d-xo.html
I think my biggest concern with this was the durability (or lack thereof) with the pedals. It's not like swapping out buttons, and sticks for better ones where it's fairly easy to do, and the options are plentiful. So I wasn't sure how to go about that for arcade racing controls. Nice to know that the "fix" is as simple as buying a pedal cover, and slipping it on. You've certainly given me piece of mind for whenever I eventually do get my own Out Run Arcade1up. Do you know the exact measurement, or type of cover to get should I want to look to getting a different design?
The exact measurements of the Outrun accelerator pedal is 6" tall by 2" wide. I just bought my pedal cover blind cuz it was $12 at the time (now it's double the price which is baffling). It also came with a brake pedal cover, but that did not even come close to fitting. If you want to try for a different design, you might have to do a deep dive into the makes and models of car pedal dimensions and then find a pedal cover for the ones that come closest. It only needs to be the right width. Mine is taller than the A1Up pedal and it's fine as long as you trim the rubber towards the top (I used these all-purpose shears: smile.amazon.com/KitchenAid-KE351OHOBA-Purpose-Shears-Black/dp/B07PZF3QS3/ref=sr_1_2 )
Dude! I went down that road. The fan that I mounted to cool the PCB was actually an experiment to see if it would be strong enough to create "wind" if there were 3 of them mounted to the top of the marquee. Turns out it wasn't and it was too loud on high and it would have cost too much to do and finally would have compromised the look of the cab overall. But yes, I'm with you brother. WIND! Detail: I was going to experiment with a tattoo power supply hooked up to the pedals, but instead of increasing power to a tattoo needle, it would have juiced the fans. Again, too expensive and too ugly for not enough wind. Cuz honestly for it to feel "real" it needs to be blowing your hair like crazy.
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 So instead of direct fan placement you can channel the air from the back, reducing noise and preserve arcade cabinet appeals. Channel with just some cardboard for cheap experiment. And not the tattoo power supply. A cheap PWM is working fine and even come with separate potentiometer. Just splice potentiometer leads in line with gas pedal .
Yes. What I'm going to be doing is even simpler than that: in my description at the very bottom is a set of false batteries that plug into an electrical socket. These are used to convert battery powered devices into plug-in devices. So I'll use two sets of those (one for each tail light) and wire them out to the back of the cab together with the speaker wire from the bass shaker and plug them into the power strip. The power strip is plugged into an outlet remote (also linked in my description) so when I click the remote on, everything turns on (or off) together. You can also splice the power strip cable into a physical switch (Kongs-R-Us has a great video tutorial for that), but I'm going to be linking all my arcade room games and neon to this single remote so that the whole room comes to life from one switch. Hope that helps!
Hi. Can you please tell me if the big fan fixed the slowdown on Outrunners? I ordered the standup cab and also ordered the big fan you suggested. thanks.
The fan did indeed fix the slowdown problem (whenever it arose). I turn it on to the low setting and the problem goes away almost instantly. Congrats on your stand up cab! You're gonna love it. I still play mine all the time.
It definitely fixes the slowdown on Outrunners for this cabinet. For me the slowdown vanishes the moment I turn on the fan (on the low setting). Thankfully I don't have to do it very often.
Another question for you. Is the bass shaker you purchased over kill or just right? I ask because I recently purchased thd same one waiting for it to arrive but I also purchased 2 mini bass shakers that I plan to put behind the control panel but wondered if the mini bass shakers would be just as good to use under the bench vs the large one. Thanks!
TBH the giant one I got is probably overkill. I just got it cuz it's the one Retro Ralph used. I have my amp turned up only halfway. Any more than that and it becomes obnoxious. Dayton Audio makes those smaller ones which I also have for a multicade I'm building, but those are significantly weaker. If you have 2 of those smaller ones, that might be perfect, but I'm guessing. If you have the budget, I'd say stick with your plan of having the big one under the seat and the 2 smaller ones near the wheel. That will definitely be overkill, but it'll also be awesome AF! A note of caution: You'll probably want 2 separate amps as well. You may be frustrated if you can't dial them in separately. Go as far with your heart as your wallet will allow. I've discovered that modding my Outrun cab is as much fun as actually playing it. Here's the smaller bass shakers I'm talking about just to verify we're on the same page: smile.amazon.com/Dayton-AudioHDN-8-Weatherproof-Exciter-Transducer/dp/B00ADR2BWA/ref=sr_1_2
Here's an alternate amp made by the same company that has regular stereo as well as subwoofer outputs. It's sort of pricey, but it might be a better match if you're gonna have those two smaller transducers by the wheel. The reason is that you'll have the option of connecting the transducers as regular higher frequency stereo OR twist the wires together and connect them both to the subwoofer out. There is a danger of overwhelming the music with too much bass if you have 3 transducers all transmitting bass. This will allow you to experiment: smile.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Amplifier-Audio-Subwoofer-Wireless/dp/B07SRYWFPS/ref=sr_1_1
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 haha. Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Yea seemed like the big transducer is a bit much but I'm sure it's worth it. I agree moddingbis very fun but gets expensive fast. Have to tame myself. I figured it would be fun to get some vibration on the wheel if done right or instead put only one small transducer under control panel and the another on the foot pedal bass to get vibration when revving the engine! Haha.
@@FROSTINATOR I'm with you dude. I was going to list all the prices for my Outrun mod, but didn't want to add it all up! As for revving the engine, what's ridiculous is that in Outrun, the motor only rumbles and shakes the seat when you're in idle! Which is... Never!
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 So I hooked up the bass shaker today but disappointed with the outcome. It shakes great and all but I don't like that the skaker mostly reacts to the music and not much of the sound effects from the car and road. That was the whole point. It works great for the 5th game Rad Rally because there is no music. Oh well. Might return mine.
This model bass shaker will only accept 14-16 gauge speaker wire. 18 is too thick. Even 14 gauge was like barely fitting. I don't play that much Rad Rally cuz I'm so terrible at it. The steering is waaay more sensitive than all the other games. But I do enjoy falling off the cliff on the mountain stage. Haha.
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 yeah its fun Falling off the side in R.R......thanks for the Q&A....I'll just have to wait for my 14g wire in the mail..!!!
Maybe Amazon sent me the wrong product but I used both links, one for the AC Adapter and the other for the Amp but the plug won’t fit into the DC In. Smaller male input show a 65W not 90W Adapter. Any information or links will be helpful. Thanks.
Hi Justin, I checked the link and it says I've purchased that power supply twice so I believe it's the right one. Not discounting your story. This may sound ridiculous, but many components are made with shoddy alignment and sometimes I have to force fit connections. In other words, it may not seem right because it doesn't plug in easily, but it may just be that it needs a little more "encouragement". Barring that, I dunno. The barrel connection that goes into the back of the amp for power is a standard size and the power supply also comes in a standard barrel size. I'm sorry to (maybe) have misdirected you. If you do solve the problem, please report back so I can amend the info.
Good catch! I bought the Sega logos from Arcade Graphix, but they were the wrong size (too small) and wrong shade of blue to match the side art so I commissioned a custom set from Vinylty sourced from the original cab art, but they haven't arrived yet. I'll do an update when my game room is finished. Thanks for watching!
That would also work! One involves removing material, the other involves adding material. I'm short so I don't mind sitting lower and I didn't want to build a riser. Haha. Most seat mods I've seen on TH-cam raise the cabinet though.
Pedals are still working great with the metal covers on them. I did have to open up the pedal casing to fix the brake as the gear that connects it to the potentiometer can dislodge if you step on the brake from a weird angle. The fear of the actual pedals breaking in an unrepairable way is something I don’t worry about much anymore though.
The pedal is my concern. Its looks awful for any wear. Way too much money to have the pedal assembly to be so flimsy. Sucks cause I want it but waiting to see videos showing they broke or are good still.
I agree 100%. Addressing the flimsiness without having to swap it out was a top priority. I even wrote to A1Up customer service asking why they don't carry replacement pedals like they do for so many other parts on their website. They said maybe soon? Not that confiidence-inducing! I had already bought the cab before this was a known issue. I'm pretty confident with my fix thus far. I've played it for weeks and have had heavier friends over (~200lbs) playing it with no issues. Plus I've recessed it into the back of the cab so there's no chance of anyone tripping over it or putting lateral pressure on it. This cab had it's issues stock, but now I love it.
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 Bought and love this cab. Did my own racing seat mod and cab riser. You gave me ideas for other things. Just bought all the stuff for bass shaker but the power supply link goes to wrong one now. 5mm plug to amp when it needs to be 2.5 I believe. So now I wait a few more days for the right one. Thanks for the inspiration to do some of this but also a lot of my own. Definitely fun.
@@bonesjackson81 Congratulations on your cab! Glad some of my tinkering was helpful. I clicked on the link again to be sure I wasn't misinforming people and when I landed on the page, Amazon told me that's the one I had indeed bought. It does say that the plug for the amp is 5mm.
I've noticed slowdowns on buck hunter safari mostly. May try the fan mod to see if it helps
It definitely fixes the slowdown on Outrunners for this cabinet. For me the slowdown vanishes the moment I turn on the fan (on the low setting). Thankfully I don't have to do it very often.
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 thanks! Good to know!
Thanks for the updates .... Just got the upradpatch with Rad Rally.... Its Awesome..!!! no music though...Can u use 18 g wire for base shaker??
This model bass shaker will only accept 14-16 gauge speaker wire. 18 is too thick. Even 14 gauge was like barely fitting. I don't play that much Rad Rally cuz I'm so terrible at it. The steering is waaay more sensitive than all the other games. But I do enjoy falling off the cliff on the mountain stage. Haha.
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 yeah its fun Falling off the side in R.R......thanks for the Q&A....I'll just have to wait for my 14g wire in the mail..!!!
@@indangerdogg637 I'm still waiting for my custom SEGA decals for the cab sides! We're forever waiting for parts.
Really nice but you forgot sega logos
Now make a rail slider so its adjustable
The entire bench can be moved forwards or backwards, so a seat rail isn't required (thank God). Thanks for watching!
What about instead of lowering the seat just add riser to the cabinet
That would also work! One involves removing material, the other involves adding material. I'm short so I don't mind sitting lower and I didn't want to build a riser. Haha. Most seat mods I've seen on TH-cam raise the cabinet though.
Did the pedals hold up? I just got ridge racer and that's my concern
Pedals are still working great with the metal covers on them. I did have to open up the pedal casing to fix the brake as the gear that connects it to the potentiometer can dislodge if you step on the brake from a weird angle. The fear of the actual pedals breaking in an unrepairable way is something I don’t worry about much anymore though.
looks great
but its still outrun
This awesome but I’m getting a big buck
Please make a video when you get it. I'm DYING to see more reviews and reactions to that cab.
I confess I didn't even look at that, but that's the one I'm apparently using and it works. Perhaps I just got lucky. It wouldn't be the first time! Definitely chime in again when yours arrives and perhaps post a link to that one too. If you did a seat mod, you should definitely consider posting a video about it. There aren't very many, but I KNOW people are doing even cooler things. There's a guy named Juan Pablo who did a show with Kongs-R-Us and his seat mod is incredible: th-cam.com/video/xGaB9tNNORE/w-d-xo.html
@@squirrelfromthefuture2689 Idk but something change or Amazon messed up. Either way I got the smaller size adapter today. It fit. And omg what an amazing mod. Now it's arcade perfection! So cool. I've never put anything on YT but it's an idea. Maybe. Probably need beer first. Ha. Thanks again for having the links. I probably wouldn't have done it if I had to figure out what was needed 🙃
@@bonesjackson81 You're welcome dude! I'm glad we both picked up the right power supply. It's dumb that it's not included. You should definitely post a vid. First time for everything. This was my first video!
If you need to do this much work to fix the product, then the product sucks and isn't worth buying.
I actually agree with this comment, but my extensive modding journey has led me to build custom machines so I'm grateful to A1Up for putting me on this path.
you're a genius, this is an awsome set of mods. love that tractor seat idea.
Thanks for watching! All the mods have been holding up great and the tractor seat really changes the whole experience.
