You will need to bake 2 x 10" square cakes, 1x 7" square cake and 1x 8" square cake. Cut the second 10" square cake in half and then half again to get your half piece that's needed for the bottom side part. Using the other half of the second 10" cut this down to size as the 8" and use this as the third piece for your 8" top stack. The tops that have been cut off to make each layer straight are not used. I used a 5cm round cutter for the wheels.
Thank you very much lovely cake and good to follow instructions.
Yours is the prettiest Thomas cake I've seen. Could you please show in more detail the process of covering such a layered cake with fondant. I find my fondant always tears.
This is nice ❤❤❤
How many do you think this might serve - it is a lot of cake isn't it? Fabulous tutorial.

Super - thank you
Hi Angela, can you please tell me which cake you use for 3D Thomas train cake? I am eagerly waiting for your response as I am thinking to make this one for my son's 2 nd birthday.
Many thanks
Well there’s still hope of a reply in time for he’s 7th birthday
When you say you cut the 10" top off is that what you made the 8" out of?? And where did you get the half 10" back into a half??
Hi Annie,
Cutting the top off the cake gives it a straight area to work with so you can stack the cakes evenly. The tops are not used, so I just throw these away. I baked 2 x 10" cakes, one 7" cake and one 8", so four cakes in total. I cut the 10" half again in half from the second 10".
Using the other half of the second 10" cut this down to size as the 8" and use this as the third piece for your 8" top stack
How much ganache is needed for this cake?
Did you put the 1/2 10in on both sides at the bottom?
Thank you very much xx
You're welcome Annie.
Hi could I ask how many servings do you think this cake feeds
Lol this cake is not for eating
Whats the size of that cakeboard u used?
How many servings does this cake make?
Hi there, can you please tell me how large the circles are for the wheels? I am attempting to make this for my young grandchild's 1st birthday. I would be really grateful for your reply as I am now beginning to PANIC||||||
Hi Pauline, I used a 5.5 cm circle cutter for the wheels. If you don't have a cutter this size you can use one that is closest to this size as it won't make much of a difference. Hope this helps. Thanks, Angela
Hey thank you so much Angela. Fingers-crossed all steam ahead.
Pauline
