Sir Christopher Lee holds the Guiness World Record for the actor with largest number of sword fight scenes in cinema history. And yes, rapier is a very heavy sword, even heavier than most medieveal arming swords. Don't confuse rapier with smallsword which is a much later invention.
rasnac Not particularly heavier than an arming sword, if they ever were, to my understanding. But like all one-handed weapons, after extended use, the user does tend to tire quite quickly in comparison to two-handed weapons (where the weight is distributed).
Edmund Withnell Mat Easton in scholagladiatora channel argues many are as heavy as a longsword. But PoB is about 8-10 cms so not so tiring for the hand. R.I.P. Sir Christopher Lee...
rasnac A lot of people don't understand that in order for a blade to be an effective thruster it needs to be stiff, the longer the blade the stiffer it needs to be- which means a thick cross-section. A cutting sword can be 2mm thick at the COP, and no more than 5-6mm at the thickest, and still do its job quite well, but a rapier needs twice as much metal thickness, easily- so the weight comes on.
rasnac Same weight, same amount of metal. It's just drawn out more, and has more blade presence. But even a medieval arming sword only weighs about 2 pounds.
“Now, the most important thing about swordfight apart from getting it right obviously, is to make it as if you intend to kill the other person and as quickly as possible.” - Darth Saruman, Count of Isendgard. Edit : Also known as Darth Dracula, making him Count of Transylvania as well...

I find the rapier lighter than the longsword.

It's so bloody simple but it seems like not a single hollywood director understands how all you need to do is make it at least look like the characters are trying to kill each other.
Look at C. Lee's bio. He's a ligit sabre duelist.
@@aaronhumphrey2009 Probably the one thing everyone can agree on when it comes to the Star Wars sequels: That trilogy was the only one in which the saber fights actually looked like people really trying to kill each other.

@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 I can barely understand your grammar.
Rod Alexander sorry, but I believe not being able to convey emotion in text plays a part too. In short I poked fun at Rey stabbing with a saber in Ep7 and also the fight after Kylo kills Snoke has lots of mistakes when it comes to choreography.

surely there´s a time limit before such informations can be released. Even here in Denmark you can´t see if a relative was in the resistance groups till 10 years after the person died. And Sir Christopher Lee was infinitely more than a resistance fighter. No offense to them

The three musketeers had the most realistic swordfights I've seen. For the exact reason he just said: you have to look like you really intend to kill your opponent.
Check out the deluge then, it's a big one I'd recommend for anyone interested in historically accurate swordfighting.
