Right there with ya brother. Magic combo for me is a biologic, supplements, cbd and a very clean diet. I also exercise daily. When I first started feeling it I basically sat on my couch for 3 years and it made me feel 100x worse. Supplements that I find help the most are high dose of fish oil/omega 3s, vitamin d(2,000iu), magnesium glycinate before bed, circumin usually 500mg, I use charlottes web cbd twice a day(high strength) and make sure to eat probiotic rich foods. I'm 9 years clean alwo so I wanted to make sure I would not become dependent on pain meds again. Wish you the best brother.

Shayley, you are freakin LOVED brotha.. by myself and so many others. It's a strange concept thinking about loving someone that you've never met or spent any significant time with.. but you played an EXTREMELY vital role in a crucial time of my life with the power of your voice and the emotional impact of your music(Dayshell & OM&M), and I can only imagive how many others know exactly what i'm saying. You're the fucking man, and I appreciate and love you so much man. You're a warrior, and we are here with you. Every step of the way

I don't normally share or talk about my own health journey, but eating a carnivore (beef, salt, water, eggs) diet for a few months completely fixed my GI issues, joint pain/inflammation and (mild) depression. I don't like talking about it because everyone has their own opinions & beliefs about diet and ethical considerations, but I know that food is an often overlooked aspect of health / disease.
Systemic inflammation could be being exacerbated by one or multiple trigger foods. For me it was fibre (FODMAPS) and gluten, coffee is also problematic.
I'm not claiming carnivore is the best diet, or the most ethical, I'm just sharing what has worked for me after visiting multiple doctors and being told to basically just "deal with it". There's thousands of anecdotes about carnivore being beneficial for autoimmune diseases, so it's something to consider if you haven't already.
Edit: I won't be reading replies to this because I don't care about debating which diet is best/ethical.

I don't have much to say. Please read on new researches, I have a relative with MS and for the last 2 years a lot of new drugs are being prepared for certification. Maybe in AS is something happening also. Be strong my man and don't you dare to give up, cure is may be really close.

Keep your head up man. Some of the best advice I ever got was, "This too shall pass..." I can totally empathize with you. I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder a few weeks ago. I'm terrified to take meds. They kill the creative part of me I love so much. It will get better man...Go take care of yourself for awhile. BUT when you come back..I hope it's fucking banger. ❤

My doctors have been telling me that I have AS for about a year now. I feel like I’ve been in denial about it for entirely too long. A few days ago I was launched into the worst flare up I’ve had to date and it has proven to me that my doctors are right about it. Looking back, I’ve had symptoms of this all the way back to my teens. I just kept pushing through the pain. Now, pushing through the pain isn’t working anymore. I don’t know you, but I feel like I know your story and your pain all too well. I’m sorry that you’re going through this too. I know how isolating this can be, but you aren’t alone in it.
    Sending much love 💕

this is crazy because im going through something so similar. my back pains are a phobia of throwing up and ive always had it, but its gotten so bad over the past year. ive become agoraphobic, i stuggle to drive, i cant be around very many people. medications are a no go bc side effects could make me nauseous. i have celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder where i csnt have gluten and it makes me nauseous. my anxiety has turned into full panic disorder and ocd. im in therapy now after 15 years of avoiding it. i just lost my job of 3 years due to a very weird and random episode which put me out of work for 6 months, 4 of those months i was on med leave and the last two, my job worked with me but i wasnt making any progress and had to leave. it broke me, physically and mentally. i just feel like life isnt gonna get any better and it sucks very bad. my mental state went from 7/10 to -43/10 in 6 months. i used to have so many goals and dreams and now those goal and dreams have been shattered and swept away under the rug. im trying so hard to get better, bc i really do want to make music and help others but atp it just feels hopeless.
idk you very well other than enjoying one of ur songs but i love u and i hope one day i will find out both you and i healed at the same time. ♥️♥️ if you ever need to talk im always here

Hey Shayley, it's by chance I got this video in my feed, but I'm thankful it came around nonetheless.
I too am an artist, creative, and suffer from A.S. all the same. Saying I resonate with everything you say throughout the video would be an understatement. In a 'it takes one to know one' kinda way, I hear it in your voice, your cadence, the way you describe it all in general. I'm right there with you.
I'm 24 now, and got my diagnosis at 15-16. My doctors too, could not figure out what was going on in any way, shape, or form. I had two spine surgeries and had to go under for some other non related things too as the years went on.
I've been on infusion treatments, various regiments since then too. I was doing well for a good while!! I got a very good chance to pursue music full time, and I leapt at every opportunity I could, trying to make my dreams, a reality.
I hate to say I've had to abandon those 'dreams', I still create, make music, and interact with my overarching community of artists but, I'm sure like you know. It's hard to be active in the creative world when you have not only your body to battle, but your mind.
Like we both know, this may just be 'Us' to say the least. But it doesn't mean it's all we are. I love that you have art as do I, right there with you. It's truly the only way I can get out of bed and on the worst it's the only thing that can soothe it.
Be well, be safe, and keep creating.
    If anything, just keep creating.
I'll be right there along side, doing the same.
    -freya

Sorry to hear about your issue man. Like some people are saying I think you might be able to reduce symptoms with dietary changes. 2 big things I can think of:
    1. Is to get your body into an alkaline state. With all the energy drinks, soda, etc… most of us have a very acidic PH level in our bodies which leads to a lot of tissue inflammation. If you can get your body into an alkaline state and maintain it you might find you feel a bit better.
    2. Look into epigenetics, basically it’s thought to be a factor in the development of a lot of autoimmune diseases and cancers. Basically if your body isn’t getting the right nutrients or if you are deficient on certain vitamins, or exposed to toxins- it can cause your DNA to be misread by your cells when your body tries to repair or replicate DNA in new cells. And if things don’t replicate correctly your body will see it as foreign and attack it.
I was going through some issues that presented as autoimmune. No doctor could diagnose and they just kept trying to medicate me as a band-aid. Eventually I found a doctor who took more of a non-traditional approach who focused on the epigenetic side and within a few months all my symptoms went away. It’s important to make sure your body is getting what it needs for DNA methylation. Specifically make sure you supplement with B vitamins as these are the most critical in this process. Stay away from folic acid, it’s a synthetic version of folate that many people struggle to absorb. You want methyl-folate.
I’m not saying this is a magical cure, when I deviate from these dietary changes many symptoms start to come back. It’s important to stay on top of it.
Hang in there man. I hope my advice can help you as much as your music has helped me.
    Good luck Shayley

Hi Shayley. I know some ppl have already recommended diet changes but I just want to push it even more. According to me, out bodies should not be designed to get chronic diseases. It invalidates the whole survival aspect.
At 27 doctors found I had celiac disease (can’t eat gluten), which also lead to me getting ulcers kolitis in my colon. Now with a full gluten free diet my symptoms are gone.
    Stay strong!

@@dayshellofficialthe Wife here, just finished your video and I’m in tears. I am so sorry that this is your diagnosis and what’s looking like might be your future, I just want you to know that I will be praying for you every single day till you’re healed. I don’t know if you’re religious, but I am and your music has gotten me through so much in my life, I believe that God has spoken to me through your music. Your music is a huge reason why my husband and I are together. You were my gateway into metal and it’s basically my whole personality at this point. You have this gift for a reason, I don’t know why good people have to suffer so badly sometimes but just know that someone random from Florida her and her husband are praying for you every day, because to them their life if better with you in it and your music, and we believe in the power of prayer. Hey Shayley, I totally understand where you are at right now. It's like being blind sided and feeling like what is the purpose. I have Graves Disease and Lupus (both autoimmune diseases) and a heart condition due to them. I have had two organs removed and will be on medication for the rest of my life and no cure. Pain meds I refuse to take as well, my mom died from pain meds, they terrify me. I know it sucks right now. But the anxiety and pain, and exhaustion get better. Maybe not better, but you learn to deal with it better. If you ever need an ear. You don't know me but I've been there.

I'd try to not focus on AS being a disease that will cause you pain forever. There are a ton of medication options that can stop the progression of AS and even relieve the pain that comes from the inflammation.
I have Crohn's Disease which is similar to AS in that it is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the stomach. I thought my life was over when I got my diagnoses, but after trial and error I found a medication that works for me and my doctor told me I'm in remission, meaning I have no symptoms.
I know it's hard now but know that you are not alone in this fight, and while the beginning is scary you now have an answer to your pain and more importantly, a path you can go down to address the problem. Allow yourself to feel all of the emotions, but don't allow yourself to stay there forever. You have options and choices that can bring you relief.
We're all here for you Shay! I hope you get some relief in the coming weeks.

I healed from a wrist injury last year. I started doing resistance stretching and massaging under hot water. I really recommend this. Go for walks and do windmills to move blood through your wrists. Blood heals tissue (red blood cells) and the wrist has non-vascular tissues (not interacting with much blood) so you need to encourage blood flow.Give it a try man! I found these methods on reddit pages where people were fed up with their doctors and surgeons. The doctors did not help one bit.

I was born with spinal stenosis and I say this to everyone that back pains and tooth pains are the pains I would never wish on anyone... Surgery is an option but there is no solution that is "for life" and even then everyone experiences their procedures differently. I truly wish the best for you. You will unfortunately have to work, relax and live with it but you will find your way to do so. Keep your head up and don't let the pains consume you.

    9:00 🔥🔥🔥🔥🌠🌠🌠🌠
    Gave me goosebumps.
Whenever I've had to talk with people about who my idols are you're always the pinnacle of that conversation. I can't imagine how much it must have taken for you to even make this video. People don't know how many times I've been in my darkest of places but the music and art that I consume from minds like yours... the notions and ideas I find and resonate with have kept me on this earth during all of it. There is no better therapy ( mentally ) for me than to absorb the idea that I am not alone; that there are people who have been through what I've been through or something extremely similar and were able to articulate it in ways I couldn't for myself. When I find these monikers I adhere to that ... most people don't understand it and sometimes even ridicule me for that but I wear them proudly and share them with other people I care about in hopes it might do the same for them ...
Your condition does seem dark and more heavy than most people can handle... but we want you to know you've got a fucking army of people just like me whose lives you've made an unequivocal difference in.
We believe in you. And it gives me so much faith to know you believe in yourself too.
Against all odds. An incredible inspiration.
We love you. And we cheer for the best possible outcome for everything you do on the path forward through life 🖤

I'm so sorry you're going through this, Shay. I live with a similar condition that is also degenerative and incurable. There is definitely a grieving process that happens after diagnosis. I have Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, or hEDS. It causes pain much like the pain you described. Even so, I will never give up my art. I take it slower now, but art is something that nourishes my soul, and it's part of my therapy. I have PTSD from all the pain I've been in for the past decade. I can say it DOES get better, eventually. It's important to have good pain management, and be kind and compassionate towards yourself. We're taught to push through the pain, and often rewarded for it, but when it starts hurting us, it's important to rest. Your music has helped me a lot in my battle with chronic pain, and I've always been inspired by you. I still am! I wish you the very best on your healing journey

You’ll be in my thoughts my man. Seen you with om&m & with Dayshell. Have been a big fan of your music & when I was in the hospital, I had the Pegasus album on repeat. I know you’ll push through & kick ass the way Mick Mars did for all those years. Glad to hear you’re not gonna let this stop you from doing your thing 🤘🏼

The lead singer from He Is We, Rachel Taylor, has this condition as well. It took her out of making music for a long time but is slowly getting back to it. Perhaps she can point you in the direction of the team/ treatment routes shes taken. Or even just having another musician that can understand your unique journey. Might be worth reaching out to her, shes a sweetheart!! Sending you tons of love and well wishes ✨💖

Your perseverence and mental fortitude despite it all is incredibly inspiring and admirable. When the whole deck is stacked against you, you still manage to take it on the chin and say you're going to push through anyways.
Appreciate and love all of the music and joy you've put out into the world. Guitar playing aside, your vocals and screams are still among my favorites of all metal and metalcore artists I've ever heard, your musical composition skills still have a massive impact and can provide so much value to the people around you, and your mixing and mastering skills are second to none.
Hope you find ways to keep doing what you love, and I hope you can beat the odds against it all.
Much love, Shayley. I'm cheering you on, and looking forward to what you're able to do.

    Hey Man,
I’ve been a long time fan of yours and somehow just found this video now. I work at a functional medicine practice that specializes in correcting autoimmune diseases. In fact, my own boss who runs the practice had 7 compounding autoimmune diseases, was bed ridden, and given 10 years to live by her doctor 18 years ago. I really would love the chance to have to and my boss do a consultation with each other because I’m convinced we can get you on the path to stop this from worsening, and even start to reverse it. Also, she and I are both lifelong musicians. I’m praying for you in the meantime, but just think about what I’m saying, and I hope we can get in touch and see how we may be able to help you on your journey. God bless 🙏🏼❤️

Shayley, please don't think I'm crazy, but have you considered consulting a ND (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine)? A friend of mine had lots of issues that couldn't be explained and their family physician was no help. They had testing done and came up with no helpful results. They sought the assistance of an ND and got the help & advice necessary to begin healing their body!! It certainly wouldn't hurt to try if you haven't already.
