The plane scene is incredible because it actually implies Helen was at some point prior military. She uses correct Naval aviation terminology, and followed all the protocols for the situation she was in.
She first started by giving her call sign India Gold Niner Niner or IG99 and requesting an approach vector. She made the tower aware of her presence and asked where she should go to set up for landing.
When she got no response she asked again and nothing.
When she hears the radar lock alarm and sees the missles she says "IG99 Transmiting in the blind guard, disengage I repeat disengage!"
Transmiting in the blind means shes talking to the tower without establishing two way communications. She's telling the tower that she can't hear them, so if they've been giving her orders to turn around or that she was entering restricted airspace, she hasn't been receiving it. Normally this would mean they would stop firing and send an escort plane to escort the Helen away from the airspace or to a safe landing zone.
After the second volley of missles she says "IG99 IS BUDDY SPIKED DISENGAGE!" which means "I am a friendly aircraft and I am receiving radar lock from friendly forces, DO NOT FIRE"
Everything else she says is also accurate minus a slight mess up with her Mayday call (which I can excuse because she's got freaking missles flying at her)

There's another neat layer to that scene for animation fans, too - IG99 refers to _The Iron Giant_ (1999), Brad Bird's previous movie before he moved to Pixar 😁

Fun tidbit about the movie: they auditioned a good number of actors for the voice of Edna Mode. Each time, director Brad Bird would give the actor an idea of the kind of voice they wanted. However, none of the actors could do that voice in a way that satisfied them. Eventually they came to the conclusion that the only person who could do the voice they wanted was in fact the director, Brad Bird.

    Great Reaction.
I love the contrast between the interviews and their current situations: of course, Helen and Bob's reactions to being forced to settle down are the complete opposite to what they said in the interviews; Bob wants to return to his glory days, while Helen is content as a stay-at-home mom. But the best has to be Frozone; in the past, he's playing it cool, talking about not getting too attached to the "groupies staying free nad all that," but then he's not only married, but it's clear that his wife is the one who has the pants on in the relationship.🤣

The Parrs are very similar to the Fantastic Four. Even their powers are nearly the same. As for who's the most powerful... Likely Jack-Jack... but of the others, I'd say Bob has the most raw power, Helen's right up there and her powers are very versatile... then I'd say Violet by a hair over Dash, but they're pretty close.

Hey Jen, "The Incredibles" is such an awesome movie as well as the sequel which came out 14 years later! The music in this film definitely deserves the MVP title. It has that James Bond spy feel to it.
Jack-Jack is a polymorph with the ability to transform and shapeshift himself willfully. He currently has 17 known superpowers and will continue to exert new abilities as he grows older.
"Backdraft" is a must-see film and no other reactor has reviewed it yet.
To watch great monster movies, I highly recommend that you review and begin with the "Monsterverse" series: "Godzilla" (2014), "Kong: Skull Island" (2017 - an absolute must-see!), "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" (2019), and "Godzilla vs. Kong" (2021 - another must-see!) You will flip out on the series!
As far as animation goes, there are NUMEROUS ones I'd love to list but just off the top of my head, I highly recommend the following: "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1988); "Akira" (1988); "Happy Feet" (2006) & sequel (2011); the "Despicable Me" series (2010-2022); the "Kung Fu Panda" trilogy (2008-2016); the "Toy Story" series (1995-2019); the "Shrek" quadrilogy; "Megamind" (2010); "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" (2018); "Up!" The Incredibles are basically The Fantastic Four - The Thing (super strong and indestructible), Mr. Fantastic (stretchy), Invisible Girl (invisibility and force fields) and the Human Torch (fire powers/flight). The Incredibles just replaced the Human Torch with Dash. The Incredibles came out in November 2004 while Fantastic Four came out in July 2005. So both movies were in production at the same time. Sadly, The Incredibles was a much better Fantastic Four movie than Fantastic Four was.
Unlike most other superhero groups, the Fantastic Four are fundamentally a family with superpowers, not a group of solo heroes banding together. Mr. Fantastic and The Thing are longtime friends (originally war buddies, later retconned into childhood friends), with Invisible Girl as Mr. Fantastic's wife and the Human Torch as her teenage brother. The Fantastic Four movies did a pretty poor job of selling the idea that their versions of the characters were a family. The Incredibles sold the family aspect much, much better.

(About the music) "It's got a little James Bond feel to it." There are a LOT of Bond references in this movie. They actually wanted to hire John Barry, who did the music for the Bond film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969) to do the soundtrack, but when he declined they hired Michael Giacchino and said, "write something Barry-esque." He pretty much nailed it. Everything sounds like Barry except for one track (during Mr. Incredible's training montage), which has more of a Nelson Riddle influence.

    Incredi-Jen? Why not Jen-credible?
Bomb Voyage is a great villain name. It was supposed to be Bomb Perignon, but Dom Perignon put a stop to that, so Brad Bird had to be creative.
Speaking of Brad Bird, he was the voice of Edna; he was trying to show Lily Tomlin (the intended voice actor for Edna) how to do the voice, but Lily thought that Brad would be way better at it, so... there you go.
The two old men on the bench -- "That's old school." -- were two of Walt Disney's original animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston.
Giacchino did the score for the series Lost, and he's worked on a LOT of Pixar movies, but this was his first one.

I think they wanted John Barry, the composer for all the classic Bond movies, to do the music. For the first trailer, they lifted some actual Bond music. But John Barry had retired. But for Michael Giaccino, this was truly his big break, though he'd done some work for video games and TV (Lost, in particular) before. Aside from John Barry, he sometimes seem to be channeling Henry Mancini, creator of, among other things, the Pink Panther theme.
I've gotten fond of The Friendship Onion, the TH-cam channel from our favourite secondary Hobbits, Billy Boyd and Dom Monaghan. They have a fun interview with Giaccino where he tells some of his experience with The Incredibles.

  • @MCMcommunications

As wowed by the music as you were, I hope you let the credits roll in full, because it's an amazing medley (and often it's nice to sit through the end in general even if there's no extra scene). If you get the album version you get an extra 7 seconds too!
Also, for Pixar films and others that originally ran with shorts, you might enjoy viewing them alongside the features. Sometimes they can help set the mood. Boundin' has a theme of taking pride in who you are, and it was written, directed, and narrated by the late Bud Luckey, whose voice you'll recognize from the main film.
Tangentially, check out the short story Harrison Bergeron. And finally... I2 is quite a letdown, actually, but don't let me stop you.

Monster movies. So many choices. I’ll recommend the best non-camp flicks: “King Kong” (1930’s version), “King Kong vs Godzilla” (1962), “Pacific Rim,” “Godzilla” (2014), “Kong Skull Island,” “Godzilla:King of The Monsters,” “Kong vs Godzilla.” Others are: “Gojira” (1954), “Gamera,” “King Kong” (1976 and 2005), “Eight Legged Freaks,” and “Godzilla” (1998). In total, there are 32+ movies with Godilla in them though many are rather cheesy.
Godzilla 2014, Kong Skull Island, Godzilla: KOM and Kong vs Godzilla should be watched in order as they are an expanding movie universe like MCU.
