It failed to have suspense because it kept making stuff up at the spur of the moment. It turned the Breen into morons who believe a story concocted by Raynor, without checking it. We are led to believe that the marriage between la'ak and Moll would be respected by the Breen even though the last episode had them running away from them. We are led to believe that the Federation could not maintain security over La'ak and Moll. Because the doctor just opens up the force field and she escapes. Why not just have Moll have a science fiction device that she presses and she escapes like half a dozen Star Trek episodes? Are the writers hacks? And then Burnham tells Raynor that she herself did not give the Klingons an inch and committed mutiny. If that is true, Burnham should be in jail. And we know it is not true. In other words, the writers have made up a lie about Burnham's character. Because any fan of this series knows that she did what she thought was good for the Federation and not for her selfish reasons.
The Breen are canonically non-humanoid...this depiction ruins their entire mythos.
