  • Winter sowing is an easy method of starting your garden plants. Winter sowing requires very little equipment and most of what you do need is likely already in your home. Winter sowing is also very hands off and is good for gardeners who don't have a lot of time or space to commit to starting plants. I grow flowers and vegetables in Saskatchewan, Canada. My cold hardiness zone is zone 3b. I have an average of 110 frost free growing days each year. The past few years have seen our temperatures go as low as -37C (-34.6F) to as high as 37C (98.6F). Come see what and how I grow in these conditions.

    Howdy, Prairie Plantgirl!👋
Winter sowing is fun...love looking into the jugs to see what's growing!😃
My jugs did great in the year we had below average temps; however, most years, we warm up too quickly for the enclosed containers. I can make a mini hot house out of storage totes and grow in cell trays...it works pretty good, but isn't as care free as regular winter sowing.
Our overnight low was 57...low 70s for our high today.☀️
I'm looking forward to your winter sowing reveal video.😃
It's hard waiting to start my tomatoes and other goodies; however, I get hugh plants if I start at the suggested date...up potting one or two times.
I did drop my pepper and parsley seeds yesterday.💃
    Continued happy gardening!😃💕

Last summer, I collected a lot of seeds from my snap dragons. I am thinking of starting them in a jug outdoors, since I have limited space indoors. I hope to plant the seedlings in my big flower pots of annuals. Last year, I winter-sowed Italian parsley and marjoram. That worked out okay.

That sounds like a great plan.
