Me too! It’s the first time I’ve tried the combo. It has a very soft look to it.
Good tip about the shellac, Zeb. The chairs turned about adorable. Good job! The only thing I would suggest is putting a piece of plain fabric on the underside to cover the threshing/rushing for a more finished look, which you could still do. If not, consider that step with future chairs.
We use black dust cover on a lot of chairs but felt the Rush seat didn’t need it. 😊❤️

Wow! These look great! Good job, guys! The shape of the backs look like Swedish chairs. They would also look good with grain sack upholstery.

For the front corners....pull up the center of the fabric directly over the point of the corner of the chair you are working on. Then, flatten the fabric on one side, and pull that up. Pull up the other side the same way, and you should have a nicely rounded and almost mitered corner. Try it--you'll like it!

yes, these chairs had woven rush seats. the rushes are twisted marsh grasses, sometimes can also be made from twisted brown paper.

Well now I need tor staple gun, I usually use a hand one and it hurts my hand! And that was so much quicker! I have a set of 4 dining chairs and my cats use them as scratching posts! I’m going to try covering them, it will be interesting to see them scratching upside down to scratch on the chair bottoms!
I used a hand operated staple gun for years until Zeb convinced me to use a pneumatic one. I can’t go back.
Rose here is a little trick for kitties...clip the very edge of nails and get some nail caps at your local pet smart. You put a tiny drop of glue in and slip on nails. Your kitties have spa day and save your furniture. My very favorite part is it doesn't harm them in any way! Kitties will continue to "scratch" but zero damage is the result. They last about a month or two. Replace as needed. All my best💗

I really like everything you do but you should have taken the rush off the frame of the seat and added webbing then foam and the batting. It is really easy. Especially since these are for sale.
sherri macdonald I could have but they sit just fine and are plenty sturdy. And it would have taken three times as long and way more money. Which means I would have to ask a lot more money. And if it were me I wold rather pay less as long as they are sturdy and comfortable which they are.
@@JamiRayVintage I hope they sell for you, I really do. I also have a shop where I sell refurbished second hand furniture- and my reputation is only as good as my work. The chairs look great, no question, but soon enough the batting will start to show the wear and you will feel the rush seating, but, ultimately, you know your customers.I did a blog post a long time ago about changing the rush seating to webbing so I have done it before and it didn't take much longer. fingers crossed they sell for you.

Could you use dark & decrepit on the areas that you sanded instead of shellac? It's got a built-in sealer so there wouldn't be bleed through, right?
It doesn’t prevent the stain from pulling through like shellac does. It’s a sealer but not a stain blocker.

I Bought "2" of the Higher Bar-Stool's, and Cut the Leg's Off, because we made them Chair-Height, to go with a Table that Matched the Bar-Stool's.They were Already like your's, after you Finished them. They also Had Fabric that looked like your's, but I actually like the Basket- Weave Better, which was underneath the Fabric, however, we kept the Fabric on them. So in the End, we had a Nice Table and Chair's.
