100lbs all in one box, is too much for me. Even with wheels. I think the Bluetti AC300 did it right. Break it into smaller chunks. The head unit (inverter, 48lbs) is standalone, without the battery. This makes it lighter. The heavier items are the B300 (3000kwh, 53lbs) batteries. One can expand it to the needed storage capacity. This is for a stationary unit. But more manageable for set up.
I have ran goal zero products for years. A 3000, two 1000, 400, 150. Many purchased used from people who had no idea how to use/maintain a power station. Having multiple units it gives me option on how to use them. I do wish the units I have could receive more solar input but I’m not spending the $ as I never have had a problem yet with keeping them charged from solar. Goal zero is my go to brand for power stations, lights.
@@PracticalPreparedness for most the larger power banks are a mistake to purchase. A small inverter gasoline/propane generator (about 2000 watt) & a 1000 watt power bank is what is needed. Even the largest power banks with solar are on a limited time usage. Too many people think that plug and play means use as normal and not rationing usage. Think four days of Texas winter storm, how much solar could you have gotten?
Goal Zero is the best, US based company in Utah and they make high quality products. We have Goal Zero equipment from over a decade ago that are still working just fine. Heck my Sherpa 50 from 2015 is still working great
Appreciate that. Yea they very likely won't be sending me more for review anytime soon lol. They need to bring that price down to compete with other brands
I have a Topk 20w power bank just for my phone, both my phone and power bank are qpd3.0 fast charge as is my solar panel, mobisolar 60w folding. It serves my needs, the point its good to have all fast charge compatible items, then you have quick, seamless charging across all your devices saving lots of time, and if its a disaster as we all know it counts. Getting into the habit of keeping everything charged fully, and then having at least 2 spare pairs of batteries for each device, then you have 1 fully charged and fully charged spare batteries x2 ready to go. For instance my phone charging normally takes 12hrs to fully charge, fast charge just under 4hrs. Thanks for the content.👍
It's on sale for $2720 from July 1st to July 7th right now (presumably testing what happens when they match price parity with the Ecoflow price mentioned in this video).
Goal zero was an early developer of off-grid charging and battery systems, primarily for the overlander community. They quickly got stepped on by every company that has come and gone now. I’m not sure why they didn’t innovate… and frankly, I am a little surprised they still exist.
they still exist bc they are still the go-to for expeditioners and overlanders. you don't see people going on expeditions to the mountains of Peru with Ecoflow or bluetti lol.
@@jgg204 As an overlander, EF and Bluetti are a joke, they're toys. They have the world's weakest solar inputs so they're basically useless and zero integration (no high power 12v or ATS). Goal Zero has and will always be the overlanders choice.
What a monster. Not in my budget however. I'm hoping to buy a large lifepo4 battery to charge my power station via the solar port then recharge battery in the van.
Nice, you can go crazy with the custom DIY work with batteries and panels. Assuming you'll have the panels hooked to the battery to keep it topped off?
@@PracticalPreparedness not got it but already charge power station on the move. I've roof bars on my van that aren't needed so will also install a panel. Just that I'm on the move a lot so easily recharge whilst power station doing it's job at home
I have a 7.2kw ground mounted solar array. I don't have a Tesla /LG battery so when the grid goes down, my solar is useless. Will this unit allow me to use my solar panels in a grid down situation? Since it only accepts 3k incoming dc, what would happen to the rest of my generated power that is excess of the 3k?
Thanks for a good, honest review, I highly appreciate your honest opinion and data! The price and the solar requirements make this product a no go for me.
Can you do a follow up video a year later now and tell us what you think? I have had lots of problems with mine sent it back once and then ended up sending it back again permanently and they gave me my money back seems like they know that there’s an issue
Hello, I have a question regarding the battery life, and I would appreciate your insight. We are using an Espar heating system in our van, and typically, we run the heater for just a few hours since the van retains heat well. We are currently using a Goal Zero Yeti 1000x, and we find that we need to recharge the battery after about 24 hours of use. Could you please help me understand how long this battery is expected to last under these conditions? Thank you for your assistance.
heeey its about time GZ, good job! but srsly though the head unit needs to be separate, then it's a way more appetizing package and they can pack way more input into the head unit to charge everything faster for brownouts, generator, etc..
This looks much nicer. And there are people who can afford the price. Plus when you stack up some of the other models they have quite a bit of weight. I am still new to this. You just gave me a bit of a shock when you said they cannot run an air conditioner. I bought the Bluetti AC200 Max with an expandable battery and a second battery on the way arriving tomorrow. I was under the impression that I could run my air conditioner if there was a power failure. I bought the Bluetti because for quality and lack of style. Yes you heard me right. It's the most boring looking of all the power generators on the market and that's why I like it. This design is much nicer in a living room or an office Etc whereas the one I have is great for a garage or Workshop as far as looks. As a matter of fact this is the only one that has a more designer look.
Think this thing seems really good the price 😮 is a lot. We have a few EcoFlow batteries and the power kit in the garage that help power the house and can move about into the caravan, like them but the app is absolutely crap, Wouldn’t be so bad if could adjust from the units it just really annoys me. Hopefully this get released in the UK and adjust the price, May save a bit too get something like it. Thank you take care Sam
that's what we do. our home backup is a goal zero battery bank setup. in an outage we run it off that. if the outage lasts more than 48 hrs, we will fire up our honda generator on eco mode and add juice to the system while the house continues to run off the honda generator. that's the ideal way to do it
Goal Zero was the first "big box" power station I can remember, then they just disappeared. This new one looks good, has a lot of power, and is overpriced. I'll just use a bunch of smaller power stations, with small solar array, and a small propane generator.
Other than the need to not let people know I have a generator due to noise… why would I go with batteries instead of natural gas Generac style generator? Live goal zero and own a smaller camping unit so I’m a fan
Well, that was a little bit too much money for that unit but if you can afford it and 52 kg/115 pounds are not that bad but i agree with you about that some people might think it is too heavy and to expensive as well. But if you can afford it why not go ahead and buy it.
Goal Zero didn't up any game because they're still using low cost, (cheap), low surge capacity, high frequency, transformerless inverter tech in this unit. If Goal Zero was serious about improving the performance or life expectancy of their products, then they'd be using heavy duty, low frequency, transformer based inverter tech in their products. You can't cheat the laws of physics. You'd be lucky to get even two years of service from the Chinese made inverter tech in this unit, especially when powering high inductance loads like full sized refrigerators, large power tools, portable AC units or large microwave ovens. The reason for this is that all of these lightweight, high frequency inverters lack a very critical component. That critical component is an iron core, copper wound output transformer. Without an output transformer to act as a buffer to absorb electrical surges provided by the “Flywheel Effect” inherent in the physical amount of a transformer’s iron, these surges and damaging reverse voltage spikes must be handled directly by the inverter’s MOSFET transistors, essential shortening their life. You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these high frequency inverters are new, but every time you fire up one of those inductive loads, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in this inverters. Lightweight, high frequency inverters run much hotter than low frequency, transformer-based inverters which makes the low cost, off spec, Chinese made components such as capacitors, diodes, resistors and ICs that are used in these inverters, far more prone to early failure. Another major consideration with these lightweight, high frequency, transformerless solar generators like the this is safety. All it takes is for the AC output monitoring circuitry to fail and one of the MOSFETs in the inverter's H-Bridge circuit to short to ground, and a high frequency inverter can send dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your connected AC loads which will not only damage most AC appliances but can also set those AC appliances on fire.
