    So good to see Nick working again after his shoulder op. He is the best tree surgeon you can get, very knowledgeable and does a fantastic job. He felled a few trees for us in 2019 and has become a friend. You could not have a better man on the job.

      I love him! I hope he doesn’t feel too shy on film. I would love to hear more about trees in France, native and introduced, and know more about how a small private forest should be smartly managed as simultaneously a habitat for native plants and animals, a resource for useful wood, and a recreational space for enjoyment! Maybe when he is done you could give him some questions in advance and he (and his sons) could sit and tell about their recommendations on that topic for us!
      We just had a big trim done on our 100+ year old avocado tree. It was amazing to watch the crew and certified arborist at work!

      @@twobluestripes He is working with his son now for some work. It would be superb to hear from him about managing the wood as it doesn't seem the French manage woods in a good way. He is a real character and so nice as well as extremely knowledgeable

    Marie's studio really is so quaint and charming, like you would imagine the workshop of Snow White or some fairy princess. Perhaps the spindle should go in there, lol. I believe that those blue flowers would be quite lovely mixed with some yellow one's in the kitchen against the Spode. Such a clever and lively group you have working about the grounds. Definitely seem to enjoy their work and really know what they're doing. So much progress happening.

    It’s so lovely to hear you referring to your Father, Steph. All about how he’d love this.. or that.. or how he’d love seeing the wood being tidied up, & the trees threatening the chapel coming down. It’s really a testament of his love for you, and your for him. My own Dad passed away at age 86, in 2014 & in some ways it feels like yesterday. Oh, how I do miss him.

      Hello Judy, you express the longing for your father so well. But like Stephanie’s father he will live on in your heart. The pain will fade but the love never dies. My father passed away 40 years ago and he is still very much with me. Whenever I accomplish something complicated or difficult I envision him sitting on his cloud applauding me. It’s delightful. Dead are only the forgotten.

    I have 11 antique orange trees that I grew from seeds. There’s a park near me that used to be an orange plantation in the early years of the USA. They’re tart and loaded with seeds but are the old type of oranges that people hundreds of years ago would have had and paid such a high price for.
    I really wish I could send you one or two for your garden in summer. I don’t think customs would allow it, however. They will be beautiful when they are older and the parent tree where I got the oranges from three years ago for seeds will have oranges and blossoms on at the same time. They grow VERY slowly. I have four that are 3 years old that are just topping 18 inches tall. Hopefully this year they will begin to really get going faster.

    • @vanmeier9805
      @vanmeier9805 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Deb Shaw - are you by chance in SoCal? I did the same thing you did when my ancient orange tree finally gave up the ghost and now I have 12 orange tree starts that I grew from her seeds. They are nearly a year old and are almost 10 inches tall! I’m so happy to have been able to propagate from the original tree that began in the former orange grove. I may never see those oranges in my lifetime but at least I know future generations will be able to enjoy them as I once did from the mother tree. My cousin who has a farm advised me to take all the blossoms off the first year they bloom, then 2/3 of the blossoms the second year. After that, let them bloom away! :)

      @@vanmeier9805 I’m in Florida. My oranges are from an old plantation and are quite acidic if you eat them but still delicious when very ripe. The original trees are hundreds of years old. Stephanie your woods are going to be amazing when you get the trees thinned out. Most of the oak I use in my work comes from huge forests in South France.

    I often think of one of my favorite movies, A Little Chaos, when we get to visit Marie’s floral studio. I can see her digging in the dirt for little shells to use in some fashion. ❤️

    Seeing all the people lucky enough to be part of restoring the chateau makes me wonder if there are any French people in France. With some diary vlogs, you would never know Lalande is in France.

    I think a great idea with all these wonderful pieces that are being stored throughout the chateau would be to take a picture of each item and then set up an inventory system so that each piece is categorized by beds, chairs, lighting, art, etc so that as they are putting together rooms and finishing areas they can see inventory , condition etc.

      This is an excellent idea for all the hoarded junk. She won't do it. Just ask for the story of the spinning wheel. She did not even recognise it. In 16 years she has never had the money to repair a chair she BOUGHT from the owners. It's notca 17th century antique. It's a 20th century office chair.
