They watch what they watch. I think they would like the show. Maybe not. But you don’t have to shit on it beforehand.

      WeeItsNookies I’m watching other people react to BCS right now and they love it. That’s my point. It’s not up to you to decide that’s it’s not a good show to react to, so yes, there is clearly bias. Like any show, each person has to watch it for themselves to decide, but to tell them about things that don’t happen until season 4 is purposefully trying to ruin the she show for them. Plenty happens before that, and needs to. It’s not for everyone who worships BB, but for some, the writing and storytelling is just as good.

    Gus is doing a Finger Metronome technique to moderate his emotions and heart rate. It's a rather advanced meditation technique that someone who is a kingpin would probably be likely to have in his arsenal of calming techniques. Especially because he's a calm leader in general, always measured. This is *not* a nervous tick. It's to avoid nervous twitches and physiological loss of control.

    When Hector is pissing in the pool he says something to the effect of "They like what they see" (referring to his privates) to Gus and Max, and blows them kisses. In another episode in a flashback he refers to them as something along the line of "butt brothers". So although it's never explicitly explained, there are some hints that Max and Gus were more than just friends. Plus, Gus immediately jumping up to fight Hector after Max was shot might have been something a lover would do but not necessarily a business partner, especially in that setting.

      Here are a couple quotes from Vince Gilligan and Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) about Gus's sexuality.
      Vince: "It's open to interpretation. It's whatever the audience wants it to be."
      Giancarlo: "I had long discussions with Vince Gilligan that it shouldn't be pointed at either way (and he ageeed). And that the audience should have to decide."
      On the down side there is no definite answer, but on the bright side it can be whatever you like. Gus and Max could be lovers, or just as close as brothers. Or both if you want your headcanon to be that Gus has a gay sibling kink, the world is your oyster. Shuck it how you will.

      diamond dogs we aren’t ever actually told this, Gus just implies it during the scene where Walt and him are having dinner together. Imo he was just using it as a manipulation tactic to give Walt the impression that he, like him, was a family man. The fact that no wife or kids are mentioned after his very publicized death tells me that they never existed in the first place.

  • @oslafoirausuebutuoy5457
    @oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    It's very interesting that he was in a (more or less) similar situation to Walter with Jesse. Except that in this case Gus was the businessman and his friend was the cook.
    Another difference is that they seemed to be like brothers. But in the case of Walter and Jesse it's more like a father-son relationship.
    I find it extremely interesting that Gus was already known and respected in the business in Chile, and that's partly why they didn't kill him, because the cartel thought that since he is a competent man he would be able to distribute their own drugs. They just didn't want him to become the competition by making his own drugs. That would make them lose money and influence. That's why they killed his cook. It took Gus years to establish himself again and start distributing his own drugs. That's why he started the scholarship in which he met Gale, to find a reliable new cook.
    All this is kind of parallel to Walter's trayectory. He started big projects when he was young and (for some reason) he eventually drop out of the project. His friends got super rich with his ideas and other scientists got a nobel prize for a project he participated in ( www.reddit.com/r/breakingbad/comments/8lcnkx/wow_didnt_notice_that_before_walt_was_a_nobel/ ). And he spent decades doing mediocre jobs (according to him because of fear of taking risks). The difference is that Walter's change was sudden due to the cancer and Gus spent years slowly and secretly growing his empire under the cartel's nose.
    I would love to find out more about Gus's past in Chile, how he made his name there. And also to find out more about why Walter dropped out of the project.

      I've had many a discussion with people about what exactly Gus did in Chile before Breaking Bad started. A lot of people think that he was some sort of General in the military but I'm not sure that's true since the only reference to that is from Hector and it could be taken as him mocking Gus. What do you think?

    • @oslafoirausuebutuoy5457
      @oslafoirausuebutuoy5457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@movieswithmatticus5469 I don't really have a good theory, there isn't much information about his past. He could have been in the military, sure. I would guess Hector's comment is a reference to something real, but who knows if it is literal or not.
      Two questions I find very intriguing, though, are why he left Chile in the first place (given he was already known there and presumably respected), and why he seemed so different in the past. The last one being the most interesting to me personally. It looks like he had the same ambition that he has in the present, but was much less careful and had less self-restraint. He didn't know what to expect of the cartel (he wasn't able to predict how they would react).
      That would indicate that he hadn't been in the business for very long at that point, or at least that until that point he was in a smaller league. But both of those contradict the fact that he was important enough for the cartel to know who he was. So who knows 🤷‍♂️

      @@boundto484 As an Argentinian, too, Gus' "accent" was more of an issue rather than his grammar per se.
      Not only it didn't sound like an accent from Chile, but the words weren't properly accentuated in general, even for a more neutral latin spanish (wich is more universal for Latin America, and a little like a more "restrained mexican accent")
      But I can't be too hard on him, since Spanish is a bitch to learn, and more to master (even to pronounce alone!). And nearly all the countries around Latin America have a very distinctive, different accent from each other! In some parts it's so different we can't even understand eachother, by accent alone!
      It's insane, from a foreign prespective I'm sure! 😅

      Keeping that in mind, it makes it even more interesting, his line about *not* killing Gus, only because he knew who he was, and him having been somewhat important in Chile.
      May be he had already build a drug businees in there, and/or was related to some important authority in the Pinochet regime, and had their protection to an extent... or enough for someone like Hector to restrain himself.

    I don't love the "you know what? Karma" comment at the end. First, because Gus worked real hard and made a lot of things (bad things, I'm not praising him for it) happen for many, many years, to be in a position to get revenge. And now that he finally has, crediting it to karma means you're sort of taking that from him and giving it all to some invisible cosmic force. Second.........why do people so flippantly reference said invisible cosmic force, as if it's definitetely a real thing? When you actually stop and think about it, it's such an out there, and frankly ridiculous thing to believe in
    People really think if you do something bad, this all knowing energy will intercede in your life and make something bad happen to you? I guess I could believe it if the things that happen were so sudden and bizarre that there would be no other way to explain them. But it's usually very typical, mundane every day stuff that happens to a person. And people are like "welp....karma." It's so weird
    And I don't blame you for doing it too, as it's become such a common notion. I just feel it's one we rarely explore, because once you do, it quickly falls apart
