That is fantastic advice. I’ve picked up on the ‘shoot for FINAL in blocking’ for the last 2 plus years now and it’s been a great success. I communicate as much to the Client/Director as soon as I can in the blocking stage and ideas get approved much sooner than you’d expect. As a result I find that I don’t need as much time to polish a shot.

Wow I thought I've always had the notification bell turned on. No wonder I haven't seen anything in my feed. Well time to catch up on some backlog.

thanks for the vide, I've struggled /stuggling with this tremendously, still it's difficult I've had situations where 1. I've adjusted notes and made and make a anim pass that take along time. Only to get hit with, NO we liked A,B,C and D about your previous pass that you changed because of this. forcing me to go back a scrap what I've done the day before. Put in time loss the direction. 2. Hit the notes specifically to get an OK to go to polish pass, only to get hit with more notes could use more push and pull, overshoot etc... thereby showing more to get a quicker approval to go into Polish. Downside, Many notes much feedback, seems Needy. I've always been told to submit first and second pass rough and lose, to prevent crazy changes that take all day of animating, because it's faster to get the idea working then go to polish, but it seems that isn't the way, looks like you have to spend more time to block plus everything each time and hope the idea is working if changes need to be made then block plus those, even if it's a shot that has such complicated constraining. I've had a shot that i finaled in 3 hours starting it also had shots that take 2 weeks. But it seems that either or method isn't technically "faster" or "saves time" it has alot to do with is this shot working for everyone, curious of your thoughts

Yeah for sure you have to balance time and clarity in order to get the ideas across. Meaning, you can’t take days to do blocking plus and show an idea that might get shot down. You have to stay on schedule but over time you will get better at adding more details during the same amount of time and be able to sell a shot better.
That being said it also all depends on the situation. When you show something for the first time you can sell things, but once the general direction has been approved then you should only work on the notes that you have been given in order to avoid changing things that the client liked.

This is great! I’m a senior in high school so I’ve been super busy, but your videos always motivate me to animate!

Great tips, I do recognise that I get the same notes on my poses. They don't look as organic in CG as my sketches, I think mainly it has to do with keep on practising more and more. We all have to push harder to level up in our game as animators. Thanks for the reminder!

This is awesome! Actually I've been doing this without noticing it. Even though I do the same thing, watching the video still got me a lot of things to learn. Hearing this from the master makes me believe that I've did it right haha
Hope there's more tips like this in the future!

Would you say that eventually everyone gets over the "technical principal hump" given enough time or do you think most people get stuck in the cycle of "drone mode?"

    • @jeandenishaas
      @jeandenishaas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That all depends on the individual and their situations. I think it’s totally normal to go in and out of drone mode depending on where you’re at mentally and school/job wise. There’s always a balance.

awesome notes .. thanks JD .. I'll keep those in mind ..
I'd like to ask about animating Anime shots -Japanese Cartoon as some people call it- in 3D using Maya, Blender .. etc. Like animating most popular anime action shots .. and what do you think of some of the anime action shots .. and now much is the percentage of Animating characters vs the FX in their shots ?
It would really be helpful if you could check some of the popular action shots and tell us what you see examples of anime shots I'd like to take your opinions on:
    - Deku vs Bakugo
    - Deku vs Overhaul
    - Naruto vs Sasuke (final fight)
    - Tanjirou vs Rui
    -Levi vs Beast Titan
The list goes on .. I hope you'd have the time to check some of them and tell us what you think ..
    Cheers

I’m not super versed in anime work so I can’t really say, sorry. Superficially what I see online involves a lot of fast action and fast and dynamic camera work. So it’s definitely cool for energy.
