  • Morning scene on the Potomac River where recovery efforts continue after an American Airlines regional passenger jet with 64 people on board and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided and crashed into the frigid river near Reagan Washington National Airport.
The third crew member aboard the Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into an airliner above Washington has been identified as the 28-year-old pilot Captain Rebecca Lobach, after a delay in releasing her name stirred questions about her background.
A former aide to Joe Biden, Lobach was taking her annual proficiency evaluation under the supervision of the instructor pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Eaves, 39. Lobach had more than 450 hours of flying experience, while Eaves had more than 1,000.
The third soldier on board was the crew chief, Staff Sergeant Ryan O’Hara, 28. All three were killed on Wednesday when their helicopter collided with American Eagle Flight 5342, sending both aircraft plunging into the icy Potomac River.

The divers who had to locate and remove the victims are amazing heroes. That has to be a horribly gruesome job, made even worse being under water. Probably most of the victims were not in one piece. Prayers for all.

This is far more unbelievable than just a car accident. Midair collisions don’t really happen and aviation is mostly safe and the commercial plane crashes chances are super slim. It’s hard to believe that this accident is real and it wasn’t the plane’s fault but the helicopter’s. Those passengers were nearly on their way but then ended up in a crash. Rest in peace to all of them 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@The_Happy_Aviation_Enthusiast - They were 3 seconds from landing. It’s sickening. The chopper was 100 feet too high, and the plane was descending for its landing from 400 to 300 feet and they collided at 300’. It appears the chopper had an aircraft in sight, but not the one it struck. The tower should have been clearer with its instructions saying there’s multiple crafts and where each was located such as 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock. I don’t think the chopper ever saw the ill fated plane at all.

I feel nothing but pure DISGUST for any news/media outlet that films unwanted images of human remains. Obviously that was being said by the man = speaking to reporters, telling them to film “the barge” but not closer. And the authorities who do salvage should be strongly criticized for moving that large piece of the plane without 100% assurance that remains WERE NOT IN VIEW. This is UNFORGIVABLE.
