People talk about an underrated singer. No one who hears him sing underrates him. Great voice. It just needs everyone to hear him sing.

People lacking in self confidence "rate" artists as "underrated". Those with self confidence like who they like, no matter what others like.

Paul Carrack has one of the best recorded voices in the past 50 yrs, at least. No one who has heard him disputes that unless they're nuts or have poor taste.

to your sons also before it is too late and they go out to their 38th birthday party and the police wake you up at 3am that night to say 'your son has passed'. i admit i kinda laughed just a second because it sounded so stupid and i wasn't quite awake. after keeping his body for 2 months, the coroner put it down to massive heart failure, but really they found meth, cocaine, weed and of course the biggie fentynal. it wasn't a bring your own booze party, it was bring your own, drugs, weed, beer and opiods party. it has been a 1 and 1/2 years, sept 1, 2018, and i am still so angry at him, i start to grieve and then the anger comes up. i just read over what i wrote and i still chuckle at what the police said that night, after i said 'yes i am'. i am not looking for sympathy, it's just it is all so stupid, wasteful, useless, i'm so angry at him. i just need to say it. to somebody, because nobody wants to hear your angry at a dead person.

    • @GiacomoVeteran
      @GiacomoVeteran 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Where were you in 1991? Now it's TOO LATE....You are right. I took, especially my father with all his faults, lies, alcoholism, selfishness, and more FOR GRANTED...I could have tried to be a better son too..Despite it all. After he had died I learned his father DROWNED when my dad was 12. My father walked the beaches of HULL, MASS, for 2 weeks, Ditching school....He is the one who found his own father on a PIER PILING (WOOD PILING UNDER THE PIER). That destroyed him for the rest of his life! In those days they didn't get Psychiatric Help. Meds, Counseling etc., It was ALCOHOL, Cigarettes, Drugs to 'Self Medicate'. However, if only someone in the family had SAID SOMETHING, I might have understood and tried to be a BETTER SON,. Your statement got through to this old Army Veteran. Soldier with his own demons. This is why I didn't have kids myself. That childhood was damned difficult. Because of a stupid accident by my Grandfather....Going out on his FISHING BOAT IN A STORM. The Coast Guard told him not to go. He had 11 kids to feed in Mass. and had NO CHOICE. Fish or starve It was death.....Those kids really suffered after this. Lost their two story home on the beach. Taken to another state or three...PA, Maine, New York. Several died young. One worked for the Mob. My God, as I write this it sounds like a damned sad Movie. I did write a screenplay about 'my side' of things but, HELL, THIS SOUNDS MUCH MORE INTERESTING. You got me thinking of my father....Last time I saw him was 30 years BEFORE HE DIED and then in September 1991 I got that call from Las Vegas from my Chef friend at Caesars Palace. Chef Knoll said, 'JH, your Father died last week. I am sorry'....F*** that was CRIPPLING!!! Three days later I was holding a 'small blue box with his ASHES INSIDE. HIS REMAINS!!! My God, I was not prepared for ANY OF IT. I was asked to go to a warehouse outside of Vegas near VETERANS CEMETERY OF BOULDER. I was NOT PREPARED for the Blue Box...WTH? 6'3" 218 pounds, Athlete, Marine Veteran. Tough as nails...Grew up in 30's-40s after the Great Depression with 10 siblings. Tough times but, he got through it. Married. Two boys he had no idea what to do with. Sadly. He was now in a BOX. Yes, EVERYONE IN A FAMILY NEEDS TO COMMUNICATE. My God. What this did to me and my brother cannot even be expressed...There are No words, Not enough and not able to truly say it properly. It hurt. Until my own death....COMMUNICATE. Damn it. Put that stupid cell phone down. NO you do NOT have 5000 "FRIENDS". That shi* is all fake! Taking up time, energy and TIME AWAY FROM FAMILY AND "REAL FRIENDS". The two or three you'll have IN YOUR "REAL LIFE". Fact.

This song was written by Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Mike and The Mechanics,( who with Paul singing originally recorded this). Many years ago I sat next to Mike Rutherford on a flight from LA to London. He told me this was about his relationship,( or the paucity of it), with his father a very British establishment stock broker in the City of London financial world- his dad according to Mike, although impressed by his success with Genesis asked him when he was going to get a "real job"!! I can so relate to this as my father was part of the same establishment and I too regret with such sadness my inability to connect with him during our mutual lifetime- such a moving, meaningful song indeed. I had many differences with my Dad, it wasn't until my 30s that i resolved them, sadly at 49 i lost him.i wish he was still here, i have so much more i want to say.
This song made me resolve those issues and difficult times we had when i was a child wat back when this was released.
Do it today, go see him, son or daughter go to him and sort it, then enjoy your time you both have left together.
    RIP DAD (John)
Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.

I wasn't there there the morning
    When my father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I'm sure I caught his spirit later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echoes in my baby's newborn tears
I just wish I could have told him
    In the living years
My dad was killed in a hit and run not long ago, while my other half was pregnant with my first daughter at the time! And I never got to tell him in time :( so those lines hit hard .. rip daddy we love you! I'm a daddy myself now with baby number 2 on the way ❤️

This song is written from the perspective of a son who has a conflicted relationship with his father. After his father dies, he discovers that he and his dad had a much stronger bond than he ever realized, and the son regrets not saying more while his dad was alive.
It was written by group founder Mike Rutherford and the Scottish songwriter B.A. Robertson; the pair also co-wrote the first Mike + The Mechanics hit, "Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)." Both Robertson and Rutherford had recently lost their fathers when they wrote this song, making it a very personal endeavor for both of them.

I've read a lot of the comments about how people have lost their Dad. Like a most who have commented, I too lost my father in 1974. I was just 5 at the time, he had a massive heart attack and died at my feet. I never got any opportunity to tell him that I loved him, that he was my role model and hero. I've now come to look at my Dad as my guardian angel in heaven. Still love and miss you Dad. R.I.P. Lawrence Peel. 19th February 1925 - 5th January 1974.

That is heartbreaking David, at the age of Five. A massive Heart Attack at only 50 that is scary as well. Songs like the Living Years can be considered coping mechanisims.

He really does have a golden voice, and this video is so special. I lost my father a week after I had left his hospital bed. Now I have 2 wonderful children and 3 beautiful grandchildren. I want them to hear this and get the feeling he instills. I fight depression and panic/anxiety attacks and I use this as one of my 'feel good' songs. Thank you Paul

Hard to listen to this without thinking of Pops. He bailed out as a father to 5 children and his focus was on wealth and women, not taking care of us. As much as that affected us all, we still missed him and was never told until 2 years later of his death. As a man with my own children, I think of the times lost between my dad and me and the things I never got to say to him. I still think that somehow, someway, he knows of how we all turned out and the strong bond we have with our family. Still miss him. Always will.
