I love shopping second hand, especially for unique home decor and furniture pieces. Second hand shopping for interior design trends at Goodwill is a great way to save money, plus it's great for the environment. Estate sales , garage sales and auctions are probably my fave places to really find the best prices on antiques and vintage artwork and furniture that can also be quite valuable.

An addition to the linens is also be on the lookout for drapery!! New drapes are so expensive and you can thrift some great ones! Just know your measurements and be willing to make some alterations if needed.
Yes about art work. I found a large painting at a Goodwill came home a looked up the artist to find it was $1500. And I paid $30.
I saw your cushion mirror on a blog Bourdeaux Life. Exactly like your mirror priced at over 900 euros😊 and a chandelier very like the one you got at same sale, big pear shaped Crystal's and little crystal flowers priced over 1000 euros at a very expensive antique a brocante, I Bordeaux, France!

I'm going to get a little more specific than just Linens! My bedsreads, my curtains, my decorative pillows.... all thrifted!
This vlog is a treasure for sure! I look for high-end faux florals at thrift stores, esp. at Goodwill. I collect tall white orchids and once they are placed in a beautiful Asian planter, they really fool the eye. Some of them even have waxed, wired leaves that easily pass for the real thing.
Thrift a beautiful vase, put flowers in it then give it to someone. The idea is for the person to then pass the vase onto another person. The problem I run into is that people end up liking the vases and keeping them.....

Selena I would love to know your thoughts about the overwhelming influx of resellers now plaguing goodwill and other second hand locations? I’ve been thrifting for 30 years and always enjoyed it. Now resellers are descending like locusts and swooping up two and three cartfuls of stuff in one visit and they push people out of their way (literally and physically) to snatch anything they think the can make $1 on! It has made a once enjoyable experience so horrible!
I have been watching you for along time your house looks really expensive furnished. I know if you are looking for something you take your time untill you find it instead of just taking anything and that is a good thing.Your house is beautiful.

Selena, I always look for vintage needlepoint pillows, as long as they are in great shape, of course don’t have an odor. Vintage silver plate is always Fun to grab at my GW on Sunday Dollar Days, then I come home and repurpose it. Vintage Tole wear Italian/French sconces end up in my cart, with vintage tassels and brass /glass curtain tie backs.
One of the rules I live by, if I find an upgrade of an item, or the piece does not bring me joy anymore, I will put it on MP or donate it, to bring joy in someone’s environment.

Madonna Inn is a great place to stay. My husband (RIP JIMMY) and I stayed there in the "Flintstone" room with walks of rock and a fun rock shower. All rooms have a theme...from a golfing room to a horsey room with bales of hay. Reservations might take up to a year...so make one now. P.S. I was there years ago and I imagine the rooms have changed ...but it's a beautiful place on the California coast.

I'm only sorry I didn't start thrifting sooner! I started 6 yrs ago bc I wanted to collect milk glass. Now my home has all sorts of amazing antique/vintage goodies that I wouldn't have been able to pay full price for. Plus the thrill of the hunt is always the best! 😉
I've never paid retail for a picture frame. I'm a crafter and always find beautiful frames for the needlework and mosaic pieces that I make at thrift stores or garage sales at a fraction of retail price.
I saw a box fan covered with a shabby chic country white frame. What a cute idea.
I've only done it twice, for two rare posters that had irregular sizes. After years of searching, I had to bite the bullet and order them online. I was tired of not being able to display my art! But the price tag was painful 😂
What a fun video to watch! I am 73 years old and have been thrifting and buying second-hand since my college days, 50 years ago!! I still have a few items from those early days and they bring back some wonderful memories of where I purchased them.
At this point in my life, I'm not collecting that much but I do look for practical items to thrift. I would add to your list with baskets, craft supplies and holiday decorations.
I look for iron or metal yard art. Old metal gates or barn hinges. I am in the process of fencing in a small area of my yard to have like a secret garden. Using a heavy metal gate I have had for years and some other metal items. Super excited. Broken mirrors or dishes you can make mosaic table tops or make a mosaic on old flower pots. Use big broken pieces of thick mirror leaned up against a fence to reflect the back of a rose bush. Thanks Selena and oh yes I was at that huge neighbor garage sale when you bought the mirror on the floor. Well not there actually. ha ha
Definitely jewelry and clothing ! Artificial flowers are so much cheaper when you thrift them too!

I thrift mainly for great junque for my art pieces. I do assemblage and have found amazing pieces to use for them, even antique objects.

10 items I need to thrift? I perceived that title differently. Money, patience, good music, a discerning eye, my hands to feel for damages, a vehicle big enough to hold a chair (at least), a shopping cart, a good attitude, comfortable shoes, and no where else to be. ❤
Yes to vases, I collect them and have found gorgeous ones at thrift stores and flea markets. I keep telling myself "you have enough" but like you said, once you start, you can't stop! Can't wait to see your garden. You look lovely as ever!

I can relate as I am linen obsessed! Just recently found, as you would say, DREAMY crocheted white bed spread. It had the label of the person that made it, and all I thought was how many hours of love went into making this masterpiece. For $6 dollars, yes, please. ❤🎉😊
My grandmother made me a crochet one but it's ecru so I never use it. But I wouldn't give it away.
@nickyonstilts128 perhaps you can use it folded as a bed complement. They look quite nice and don't have to match, just as an accent since ecru is neutral. 🩷

Curtains. I got my beautiful bedroom curtains for $3 at Goodwill. They look brand new. I also got heavy "blackout" curtains for our Arcadia door, they are great for keeping the downstairs cooler here in the afternoon when the sun is hitting the back of the house (in AZ).

Thrift items like sewing machines. I purchased an old Singer straight stitch machine that is heavy duty and will sew fine, delicate fabrics up to leather & canvas items. It came in a beautiful cabinet all for $35. dollars. I had to clean it up a little & oil the moving parts as it had not been used in years. This machine is 100 years old but looks and sews like new. It's a beautiful work of art.💖. Also, I Thrifted an older record player/radio console. For $30 dollars. I also Thrifted beautiful record albums. I really enjoy listening to these to relax and push away the cahos of the world. 💕 Most of these are $1-2 dollars each.

I bough an antique roll top desk and I use it as a vanity table. It’s great. On the top I have a Bronze statue and a Hugh Murano Vase both bought at an antique shop.
Speaking of linens I found a gorgeous cotton shower curtain for $3 it has set the style for my bathroom with its peach color flamingos and palm trees.

That mirror in your DR is everything Selena....I just can't believe you actually stumbled upon it (literally, really!). The smaller one is amazing too; I can see the beveled mirror is original to the frame. I buy almost everything second hand
I love your style, your finds, everything! In trying to add to your list of thrift, some other items I look for…sterling anything including monogrammed items, small needlepoint rugs that can be cleaned, quilts, antique garden tools, baskets, antique books,old suitcases in good shape (for decorating and storage) and cake stands to name a few!
I love french country style decor, but would add in some of the mirror types you showed here... currently bidding on one now.
Love your style and the only thing new I will buy again, will be a new mattress

The Madonna Inn was my Grandmother’s favorite restaurant. I have a full set of red water goblets and set of wine glasses in multi colors. Love them. My uncle helped carve the railings. Check out the men’s bathroom!

Just picked up a sturdy wrought iron vanity bench with tapestry seat yesterday from thrifting. Picked up for $14.99 and similar ones range from $400-$1600. Also, went to an estate sale (last day) yesterday and picked up 3 boxes full of crystal candy dishes, glasses, bowels etc. for free. Love your bedroom lamps and end tables.
