I test drove both vehicles before deciding to buy the 2024 Ridgeline RTL. I am 6'1", 260lbs and the Honda was considerably more comfortable and roomy over any other midsize truck I looked at. Just looking at the size/width of the center console over any other vehicle in the segment shows how much wider the cab is. Additionally, the Honda came standard with driver aids such as Lane Centering, and Adaptive Cruise Control - which was something I wanted. I think the Honda will retain better resale value over other midsize trucks in the segment, and honestly who doesn't love the trunk in the bed of the truck?! The Ridgeline is unique in that it doesn't have off-road abilities like the Canyon AT4 or Tacoma, nor does it have any considerable tow qualities. But it does have a good AWD system that works well in wet and snowy climates. Those who are interested in a vehicle for heavy off-road use will only look at vehicles such as a JEEP or Tacoma, and those who need solid towing capabilities above 5,000lbs are only going to look at full-size trucks. But for those who just want a small pickup for errands and light duty jobs, the Ridgeline exceeds in most areas due to the comfort, ride quality, trunk/bed features - AND NOW - it's standard 3.5L V6 in a market moving towards only 4 cylinder options. TFL just released a midsize truck comparison video and the AWD Ridgeline beat out every other truck in MPG even though those trucks had 4 cylinder engines and were all running in their 2WD setting.

i just picked up my Caynon At4 in the Desert sand metallic color and Man that thing looks good performs super well drives good! interior i think its the best you can get out there for under 50k.
Its super nice very upscale just overall its an amazing truck i get so many compliments it's a neck breaker for sure! Colorado or canyon the way to go without a doubt!

Two different trucks for two different use cases. While I love the looks of the Canyon AT4 I don't do heavy enough towing or off-roading to justify. Of course it would be nice to have the extra capability if/when I needed it; but as a family man that only needs light duty towing and trails I would personally chose the Honda. If I needed more capability than the Ridgeline on a consistent basis I would purchase a 1/2 ton. The negatives/limitations of the Ridgeline are mostly known but some of the negatives of the Canyon/Colorado make me a bit weary.
    Canyon negatives:
More than typical number of complaints of software glitches and update issues
Worse fuel economy than you'd expect for a 4 cylinder. 18 MPG city is pretty typical with a light foot.
No built-in garage door openers. You will need to use another device or set up your garage door to work with Google Assistant, etc...
Turning on the Cargo lights is inexcusably complicated. It takes 6 button presses to turn on your cargo lights: Home > Controls > More Controls > Lights > Cargo lights > On.
Very limited cabin storage. Small glove box, and the storage under the rear seats is pretty slim. The tailgate storage is nice, but not large enough for terribly much, and not secure.
No automatic folding side mirrors. Manual fold only. This should be a no-brainier on any higher end truck trim. Honda finally caught on with the Trailsport/BE.
No automatic rear window. Manual only.
Recalls: fuel injectors, forward collision detection( goes off at undesired moments), airbags.
Service bulletins: susceptible to dented roof/weak roof gets dented in car wash

Unusual comparison but exactly the two trucks I'm now considering. Bought my 2015 Canyon in Jan. 2015 and looking to replace it. The reason for looking at the Ridgeline is because I bought the wife a new Pilot and the comfort and handling just blew me away. Love my Canyon(93000 miles) which except for the A/C compressor failing after six years has been trouble free. I don't do off roading and just need to tow my SXS occasionally. Right now the Honda is my likely choice because of the V6 and the better storage. Of course I wish the Honda had a little more aggressive styling and maybe an inch or so more clearance. It doesn't look like it but the Honda is over four inches wider than the Canyon.

      I got a 2024 ridgeline and it’s fun.
I’m looking at aftermarket front and rear bumpers to increase approach and departure angles. I do light off roading on a farm and I would feel better with it.
Do not waste the money on the trailsport. It’s mostly cosmetic. It’s clear they didn’t want to waste money on R&D for actual off-road upgrades because they are releasing 3rd gen soon. Even the passport trailsport gets a 1” lift.
For me as someone mostly on pavement, AWD is better than 4x4. I didn’t want a RWD biased system after slipping on ice and flipping my last truck which was only RWD.

Agreed. I tow a small boat and don't need extreme off-road capacity. I recently downsized from a Ford F250 and the Ridgeline is great. I did deactivate the VCM because I hate the idea of deactivating the V6 unnecessarily. The ride is nice and the size fits our family well.

@@TheModerateMillenialsomeone told me the trailsport model actually does make a difference in day to day driving too because of the "off road" suspension they put in it makes for a smoother drive. Assuming that's true, would that be a considerable reason to want it? I haven't driven a trail sport yet so I'm not sure but i was leaning towards the rtl before someone said that lol

@@TheModerateMillenial that's true i suppose, it's looking more and more like a no go on the trailsport, was there any truth to the "smoothness" of the ride that you're aware of?

I took delivery of my '24 Canyon AT4 - ordered in July of last year - on March 30th, and it was well worth the wait, replacing my '17 Colorado Z71. I spec'd it out with only the Advanced Trailering Package and Sprayed on Bed Liner (which ended up getting done locally for some reason). Dynamic Blue paint gets a lot of compliments. I'd looked at the new Colorado as well, but for a few more coin, the Canyon's interior and better looking front end tipped the scale for me. Thanks for the comparison vid.

Great review, I traded my 2022 Toyota Tundra in on a 2024 GMC Canyon Denali, I really like midsize pickup trucks for my everyday driver. The 2.7 turbo max 4 cylinder has plenty of power and acceleration. Basically it’s up to you and what you’re looking for, both are good choices. Just my two cents. Thanks

My last 3 trucks were all Chevy and all purchased new. 2004 Avalance (kept this the longest). 2016 Silverado with extended cab. Traded the 2016 Silverado for a 2017 crew cab silverado when I found out we were having a little guy. I'm now considering down-sizing.. and the Ridgeline is my top pick at the moment.

Another great video! Different trucks, yet I am cross-shopping both. I would probably opt for the GMC Elevation 4WD optioned the way I wanted over the AT4. I am a Ridgeline fan and really appreciate all the features plus solid payload numbers as well as Honda’s dependability and reliability. What is the payload on the AT4 featured here?

I would not consider either truck nor would I have any truck nowadays. Whatever happened to manual door locks, roll-up windows, or just an analog tack and speedo. With a carburetor and a distributor. Selflockers for 4x4 along with limited slip diff. All That these electronics do is another way for those with bad intentions to keep tabs on you

I would agree with some of what you said.
Nothing wrong with progress and technology, that’s why the Honda would prolly be a better choice, with a NA v6 and a 9 speed bliss of a transmission.
Electronic window raiders have been around for 40 years now.
      Carburetor is needless maintenance.
Analog clocks are good but the digital gives you more info should you need it.

I have the Ridgeline RTL-E and I love the in-bed trunk with the multi use tail gate which is super convenient.
But I suppose real truck guys prefer to store their groceries in the back seat so they slosh around and fall onto the floorboard when braking.
