    I love the practicality of this whole set up, as I use my car mostly for non camping and everyday life. The cargo get up is brilliant and look forward to maybe a video on that. I am 74, a seasoned camper and hiker, but not really wanting to lay on the hard ground in a tent anymore. Plus I got my furry little poodle companion to snuggle up with. Great video and thanks.

      I have a CRV and a I have a few Q’s:
      -how do you open the rear door once you close yourself in? My ‘15 doesn’t have a door release on the inside.
      -did you have to move the driver and passenger seats forward to fit the mattress? I only have 65inches from the back of the drivers seat to the back of the trunk.

    • @Marooncords
      @Marooncords  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DrCh0ngo I don't open the rear door, I go through the back doors once the trunk is closed...my 2019 CR-V doesn't have a back latch to open the trunk neither.
      The bed is a twin actually, I was mistaken. I push the front seats completely forward and I lay the pegboard (2) to smooth out the surface, then the bed fits perfectly with a couple inches to spare.

    I just got mine setup for solo camping with my dog. My fridge fits nicely. I use an Action Packer behind the passenger seat to lengthen the sleeping area for my 75" mattress. I was hoping I wouldn't be driving a CRV, but I sold my 4 Runner to take care of parents. The CRV is their car. They both passed away within the last 7 weeks so I'm keeping the CRV, selling their house and headed to the mountains from Dallas for a new life.

    • @Marooncords
      @Marooncords  ปีที่แล้ว

      First off I'm sorry to hear about the family. Good luck with everything and the CRV is great for camping!! Have fun in nature...it's the best place on this planet in my opinion, away from everything.

    I was thinking of doing the same thing with the rear & side window privacy shades. I noticed that by moving the front seats forward a bit, I increase the length of the bed. Also cutting your composite board into smaller sections. And placing small hinges to hold the pieces together will allow you to store it the cargo area. Kind of like an accordion 🪗.

    I really like the pegboard idea, I may try it in my Crosstrek. Seems like a slippery surface, I may try to spray some lines of some kind of spray on substance for friction, or maybe a few lines of gaffers tape to keep me from sliding. Great job!

    • @Marooncords
      @Marooncords  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not slippery when your mattress fits to the inch/centimeter like it does in my car, it's. Perfect fit! But it's actually not a glossy smooth surface...like I'm sure you know pegboard has some texture to it already but that sounds like a great idea! Thank you!!

      So I made it with one of those cargo trunk nets that hold storage from Walmart and I used Bungie cords to kind of make my own roof cargo space. I used carabiners to hold onto door handles up top. Not the prettiest but it works perfectly!! Thanks brother

    Obviously, as you say this works for you, but when you say the platform is nice and flat, well to my eyes it did not look flat at all. It looks like the area to the front rises up because the rear folded seats don’t actually fold flat. I do like the whole idea of keeping it simple and the fewer modifications the better.

    How do you keep the window chades up?

    • @Marooncords
      @Marooncords  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Super easy!! What I did was: Measure the window length and height. I cut that piece. I will then use a permanent marker to make an outline of my window when I press it against the inside of the window. I will then cut about half an inch bigger...then I slide it into the window and I will cut small amounts until it fits perfectly...I usually leave a little extra so it can slide into the small window gaps around the edges. The insulation material is very form-ready and it holds very easily. It's better to leave a little extra so you can always trim down tiny amounts until it fits perfectly...rather than cut too much and have gaps. Tedious small cuts and trimming until the perfect fit slides right in. Took me maybe an hour total. Cheap and easy!! Hope that helped!!
