having a lack of screens, the rattles and creaks, the odd little things you need to fix here and there, the ease of mechanical complexity, the cheap mechanical parts (usually) just soothes me. it feels great cleaning up and restoring that faded plastic. its a true definition of "take care of it and itll take care of you." I added a bluetooth fm transmitter to my discovery 2 and that has been all i needed. everything else works great, sunroofs dont leak, heated seats work. its just a beautiful unit.
How fabulous 🤩. Not many cars of the same age could slot so easily into this decade and be a great daily drive as you have described . Proves how well the build was and still is ✅👍
I've just got a 1990 3.9, and it just seems a relaxed drive which seems to suit the car, it just feels that it takes you away from the stresses of modern driving
Listening the V8 is better than any Radio !- the heat that comes up through the Transmission Tunnel on earlier Carpeted and Vinyl 2 Doors gave an unbelievably soothing environment and a sense of Everything is OK
Great honest update. Had a 2 door TDI conversion long before LR even offered turbo diesels. This was a Peugeot 2.3 TDI engine if I remember correctly. Left lots of space in the engine bay to spanner when needed! Did OK up to 60mph but literally did run out of steam. Flat out was 70mph at which time our ears were bleeding. But would tow at 60mph all day which was the max tow speed back in the day - though not on any uphill of course. Ironically mine did have aircon as standard from new. It was an in-vogue limited edition model. But given the pathetic bhp engine output never seriously used it. Getting nostalgic watching your content. Can't wait for more of the same👍
Thanks for sharing your story! It’s nice to bring back some good memories of old cars I’d love to keep everything but the time space and money is always a factor!
Great update, we've got pretty much the same setup, though my 200TDI came from a later Range Rover. I've done the same belts, and the upper tailgate gas struts so far. Compared to stuff like Clio 182s and Focus STs, they're such a pleasure to work on. No skinned knuckles trying to get to stupidly placed components! I totally agree about the totally different type of enjoyment you get from driving it compared to sporty cars. The ultimate compliment for a car to me is "I could make a profit selling it, but I don't want to". I nearly bought a green one, I'm very glad I ended up with a Trocadero Red one, but the white is stunning. It's probably the colour I like most on them. I absolutely agree about the Rostyle wheels, I'm hoping to pick a set up for mine (currently running 3 spokes) so I can run a set of quieter summer road tyres and a set of chunkier AT tyres.
Glad to hear your having the same experience as me that’s great! I did wonder if it was just me who came from driving faster cars but got so much enjoyment from a step back into something mechanical and basic to get a very different level of enjoyment
@@thedownshiftchannel it's a weird thing, you'd think going from 0-60 in 5ish seconds to 15ish would be a massive disappointment, but particularly on long drives it's just such a joy to drive. I drove the width of England and back last weekend and aside from being a bit hot it was a really nice drive!
I found it to be so relaxing and enjoyable and got out of it feeling fresh after 350 miles which is something no car has every offered me in the past! What do you think the the spots on mine I’m thinking of removing them. I just saw a picture of a Trocadero red one with rostyles on and it looks great in the sun!
@@thedownshiftchannel the spots are a massive improvement compared to the embedded ones you get in the lower air dam as stock.
