I upgraded from a 7700x to a 9800x3d. Huge difference in iRacing. I have not seen any FPS less than 100 now when before I would drop into the 60s on the starting grid. Less fluctuations in FPS also seems to have less stuttering.
I'm thinking about this exact upgrade. What GPU are you using. And re you on a single monitor or triples, and what resolutuion? I'm running triple 1440 perfectly fine with a 7700x and 7900XT and graphics settings turned down quite a bit, but I would love to turn some graphics settings up if the upgrade will let me do that.

If you game on a single monitor then AMD can be a viable option. But with triples and higher resolutions nvidia takes the lead. Thats mostly due to the multi viewport optimization you can turn on in the iracing settings (SMP? SMT? I always forget the name, but its in the iRacing monitor settings 😅)

yeah, most likely! but then again ... the 5090 will probably be 2000+ ... i think a upgrade to a 9800x3d while selling your 7800x3d might be good in terms of price/performance
@DanSuzuki the upgrade to a 5080 from your 4080 would get you more fps as the upgrade from the 7800x3d to the 9800x3d i would guess. And the 4080 can also be sold.

Something is wrong with the videos audio. The base is crazy high. I can watch the video on my mobile phone, but on PC with Logitech 2.1 speakers its all just base.
Hi Dan, Right now I’m running a 4K big tv but want to go triples soon. In saying that and the bottle neck with the gpu I want to get triples with longevity in mind. Even with the 5090 on the horizon would you still get 1440 or 4k? I would go OLED since that’s what I run now and looks amazing. I’m worried that even in 4k triples that I would still have to turn down settings even with the 5090 (whenever that may drop). I have a 4090 now. Thank you for the video and all the help over time. Hope you have a great day!! (I know there is a similar post but hoping that this separate one will help with the analytics 😉)
Go with 4k if you can afford it. You can run 4k oleds in 1440 mode and they still look really good if you want more performance. This way as optimizations and gpus get better you can turn up the resolution to 4k without having to buy newonitors later
@@DanSuzuki yeah I figured I was just worried about if you could run them in 1440 or not. Would that be something you just program into the ini file to add triples or a setting within the monitor? I guess that’s a bridge I will cross once purchase. I mean my one 4k tv that can run at 120 FPS lots of the time, especially with events with lots of cars it can’t output 120 for a whole lap, thus no way it can run that many pixels with triples. But I have a intel, the same in vid and they have a similar program to over clock like you showed on flight channel that I watch or get asked about from kids in morning while getting ready for school. 😂😂. As always thank you for all the content and my son has a channel he watches for his FPS kinda games that he says are like you. Aka, no fluff, to the point, and just the best person to reference. My PC is about 3.5 years old just upgraded to a 4080 Super from a 3070 ti. My CPU is a Ryzen 5800x also I am on an AM4 motherboard.I only get FPS drops when I record and race at the same time. Dan I followed your last video for changing settings in iRacing and OBS. I really don't want to spend the $$ on a new Motherboard CPU Combo what would be my best next option. Some people been telling me its my CPU. What do you think. Thanks.
I don't understand. I have a old 12700k running 4k or vr and don't get more than 15% cpu. My 3080 ti is a extreme model and its the bottle neck not the cpu
You can't look at the % numbers to get an idea if you're bottlenecked or not. iRacing will use like 2 cores or so so even if those 2 cores are pushed to the max it will only show a low overall percentage since the other cores just sit there being bored.
If you're already on 7800x3d. It doesn't look like you really need this upgrade. However, if you're on a 5800x3d like myself. The upgrade to the 9800x3d. Will be quite a big improvement. Especially if you play ACC which is cpu intensive.
every minimum fps is important in VR. Thats the figure you look at....those 1% and 0.1% lows as they are the stutters that can make you miss brake points and apexes. If its not doing over 90hz for those lows in triple 1440, it wont be 100% smooth in VR. We are a few years off from consistent frames with 4k headsets.
Hey Dan, Would you say Nvidia handles sim racing better than AMD? I had to build a new pc and I have the 7800x3d but I'm unsure on what GPU to get. Would you prioritize better dlss and raytracing with Nvidia over the price of performance of AMD? Would going VR in the future have an impact on the decision as well?
I went from 5950x 3080 to 9800x3d 3080, went from 40-60 fps on VR with a terrible resolution to make everything pixelated to now getting capped 120 fps and no drops at ALL. Playing on 4480x2400 resolution. It makes the game beautiful and performance is amazing. With that jump on the same GPU is wild to me.
to be honest I just don't know how to properly bench VR content (since it often locks to specific fps and so on). in the end the results will be very comparable, if you're in a GPU bottleneck nothing will change and if you're in a CPU bottleneck you can expect 15-20% better performance from the 9800X3D. But if you have suggestions how to benchmark in VR I'd love to hear them :)
@@DanSuzuki I think IMSA this week at Sebring is a pretty good benchmark lmao. My FPS goes from mostly locked 90fps to mid 60s on the grid and never gets above 85fps during the race until the end. But I know even top end triple monitor setups have issues on this week's IMSA

@DanSuzuki the upgrade to a 5080 from your 4080 would get you more fps as the upgrade from the 7800x3d to the 9800x3d i would guess. And the 4080 can also be sold.
@@khaos3433 maybe. what I learned from benchmarking iRacing: never assume what seems logical ... it often just makes zero sense :D
@@DansAirspace haha, i have not much experience with iracing. But with the visuals and the corrosponding fps performance in this game your statement is very funny to me 😂
And you know what. I will get myself a 5090 and a 9800x3d anyways 😂😂😂
@@khaos3433 you dont like spending tons of money to get 1998 style graphics with 54fps? :P
Built my first PC a few years ago and would like to get into sim racing now. Current specs are 5600x and 3070ti can I get by with this or should I move to AM5 and go 9800X3D and 50 series when it comes out? Currently running a 32" 1440p single monitor
On single monitor your specs are more than good enough
These gains are impressive but its all at the low end, mostly 1080p gaming with a crazy GPU like a 4090.
it is not low end, it is responsive gaming, smooth experience no matter what
Thanks Dan. What’s GPU are you running?
4090
Hey Dan could you pls share your Motherboard as this makes quite the impact on DDR5 and overall performance? I just assume something like the new Gigabyte MB?
No it’s an older x670 aorus master
Something is wrong with the videos audio. The base is crazy high. I can watch the video on my mobile phone, but on PC with Logitech 2.1 speakers its all just base.
ill increase the low cut for the next ones, thanks for the feedback :)
Hi Dan,
Right now I’m running a 4K big tv but want to go triples soon.
I am in the same situation. Couldn’t have asked a better question. 👍
Go with 4k if you can afford it. You can run 4k oleds in 1440 mode and they still look really good if you want more performance.
This way as optimizations and gpus get better you can turn up the resolution to 4k without having to buy newonitors later
@@sirgriffinman ok perfect! That is what I was wondering as well. Thank you for the feedback!!
id buy 4k monitors - can always run them at 1440p. triple 4k performance is pretty horrible tbh 😅
Love it, love the learning that you offer as well! Thank you again!!
So what when 5090 is out ?
Will it max out a 5090 ? In 4k
What GPU are you running if you dont mind me asking
4090
My PC is about 3.5 years old just upgraded to a 4080 Super from a 3070 ti. My CPU is a Ryzen 5800x also I am on an AM4 motherboard.I only get FPS drops when I record and race at the same time. Dan I followed your last video for changing settings in iRacing and OBS. I really don't want to spend the $$ on a new Motherboard CPU Combo what would be my best next option. Some people been telling me its my CPU. What do you think. Thanks.
Your only real upgrade without upgrading everything is a 5800x3d.
@advanceddarkness3 how much more would I get out of a 5800x3d from a regular 5800x? The highest my mobo can take 5900xt
Are you planning to benchmark it in ACC?
15-20% faster than the 7800X3D
@ even in triple 1440p or triple 4K? That’s astounding gains! I’m currently on 7600 non X and debating if/when should I upgrade
I did 1440p triple
@@DanSuzuki Thank you :)
I love mine!!
I swapped from nVidia to AMD and had nothing but problems, so much so that i had to fully return the PC and go back to nVidia
Especially if you play ACC which is cpu intensive.
so vr it doesnt matter much ?
5800x3d vs 7800x3d. vs 9800x3d
every minimum fps is important in VR.
Would going VR in the future have an impact on the decision as well?
yes, go nvidia for simracing.
For those who run in 4K the improvement won't be very significant, right?
zero difference between all cpus i've tested in this benchmark.
@@DanSuzuki We have to wait for the implementation of DX12 to fully take advantage of the latest generation hardware
triple 4k is just insanely heavy on the GPU ... we probably need the 7090 for that :D
I mostly game at 4k on 4090 so my 5800x is probably fine for a few more gens.
I would buy one, if it wasn't in extremely short supply and being scalped. Until then, I'm sticking with the 7800X3D.
No, No, you stay on same cpu, ty ty
I was able to get it online from Best Buy in the USA no problem, got delivered today, 3 days after order.
What gpu? Did I miss something?
4090
4K single is also gpu bottleneck?
not on a 4090.
@ I have 4070ti+5900x. So I guess 9800x3d wouldnt be much benefical for me with single 4K
From the 5900x I would expect huge gains
@@DanSuzuki oh okey, thanks bro! Helps a lot
X3D , is a gift from AMD , once you go X3D you cant go back.
5800X3D+4090=130+fps locked @ 3 X 1440P!
Not a single word about VR performances :( kinda relevant for simracers
Yeah :P
Probably improves CPU spike drops, but vr tends to be more GPU heavy because of the huge rendering resolutions.
Im fine with my 7800X3D, better invest in a 5090 next year
It will be my choice too
Yeah but the 9950x3d is about to launch and supposedly a further 18% gain ove the 9800x3d this year on average so it will officially be amd first flagship that beats the 8 seriees lineup for gaming. And of course monster productivity. So I'm waiting lol
Still if you own a 7800x3d which i don't then getting this imo doesn't make sense. Its not like you will truely notice it often in real usage situations.
Also gl finding stock! They are sold out everywhere no only 3rd party sellers have them and scalpers so they are going for 700 to 850 already in the US for the 9800x3d.
Best Buy online had them in stock and I got one within 5 mins of waiting in queue 3 days ago. I still am receiving notices of them being available. I would check Best Buy if in the USA.
@justinmuntean7689 nice still very low and only some places. So its still rough. Plus that's a first come first serve thing and usually a walk in deal so they will last a little longer.
@@reviewforthetube6485 I ordered it online. Shipped it. There are twitter alerts for in stock items and when it flashes you go and grab it.
Huge if true
If true? Why should he post something untrue mate. Every benchmark ive seen so far corresponds with this from Dan
Maybe I not only own Suzuki but also AMD? 🤔😜
@@DanSuzuki we all join together to smoke that Intel packwatch
Das Boot!
For iracing? Does it run well on a pentium 75mhz or something 😂 that game has no requirement at all in today's comparison

Yes. Have one coming next week :)
