I keep hearing how English is a dangerous career path, yet my parents encourage me to do what I want. I have ro say I am extremely lucky to have a soft spot for poetic and thrilling books and a knack for weird and vivid imagination.....I am also grateful for my parents who dont know anything about literature yet support me. All that you mentioned here makes me realize that I am right in my choices.

It's Sunday morning and I'm letting all these vlogs of students of Ivy League universities play in the background to motivate me to complete this deck. It's working... I think. I love the parts where you show yourself working in the libraries. I'm at my dining table but I can dream I'm in a library in Oxford lol.

This looks so cool! I’ve been doing a bit of research on the Masters programs at Oxford and was wondering whether you could share which masters in English you picked!😄 I’m caught between MSt in English (1830-1914) and English and American studies

Hey, It was really helpful to watch this as not much content is available on TH-cam regarding English Literature majors at Oxford.
We would love to watch a video on English Major curriculum, course structure, the choices you're given and the books you're made to read.
I am actually planning to apply for Masters in English Literature at oxford but am really confused about which mst to take up.
Seriously speaking, my country's curriculum is way different. It's like just one course 'Masters in English literature' and you don't really have to choose what specific time period you would be studying.😅
So, I'm kinda finding it hard to choose one. Can you please guide me a little bit on that.
Also, can we only make choices based on time period, can't we choose to read some specific genre, a particular author or a particular theme?
Like, What I've discovered so far about my interests is that I'm most interested in philosophical and psychological aspect of English literature. So really can't decided what Mst would suit my interests best... It would be a great help if you could guide me on this....

Thanks so much! I'd love to make a more detailed video about it. Within each MSt, here are two compulsory courses that is based on your time period, but when you are choosing other classes (you get one choice class in the first term and another in the second term) you can branch out from your time period. Choice classes can be competitive so you may not be given priority for a class that is outside your period, but it is possible to apply for it. My best advice for choosing a period of time is not necessarily what era of literature you like to read the most, but what era you like to study the most (for me, I like to both read and study modern and contemporary literature). Hope this was helpful!

Yeah mate, that’s just literally a posh Irish accent. American accents also vary heavily, and there’s lots of Irish influence on the East Coast so it’s not like she’s speaking a different language lol.
