Hey I really appreciate you putting the warning up for children to get an adult to help. Nobody thinks to do that but that's fantastic you did. Much love
Awesome!! Yeah, they are super popular here in the States. :) Have fun, let me know how they turn out. And remember to be careful when handling the candied popcorn it will be hot, wait until it is cool enough to handle. :)
I love this recipe. Gonna make some for Christmas and decorate them like ornaments. Put some chocolate Santa's on some, red hots, etc. I'm so excited to get started with my grandkids!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Not just tried them, they are going to become a holiday treat staple on my gifting menu. My husband got to have one as I was wrapping them and he loved it. I have always been intimidated by candy making, which is how my mom made her popcorn balls when I was a kid, so this was a much more "kitchen friendly" option for me to make as well as very nostalgic. This morning the whole corner I keep my treats in smelled like popcorn balls and it was wonderful.

I used to get at least one of these on Halloween when I was a kid. Seems like it was always a treat from a teacher or relative. When I saw your thumbnail and the color of them, my first thought was they looked like Coronavirus Balls. Surely a frightening treat for Halloween. lol
That is awesome, Steve! hahaha yes, lol, now that I think of it they do look like Coronavirus balls, I wasn't even thinking of that when I made them. I just didn't want to use yellow, green, or blue food coloring, haha.
This was a great video, Matt. Every time I hear the words 'popcorn balls', though, it always takes me back 25 years ago when a family member was running for city council. We made 2,000 popcorn balls to pass out to trick-or-treaters on Halloween that year. We worked from 6 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. the next morning making what we thought would take only a few hours to complete. But, we got it done. And, for the first and only time in my 52 years on this planet, it snowed on beggars night and we could only find 9 little beggars in a town that would normally attract hundreds in the neighborhood. It was like being in an episode of The Twilight Zone. So, by the end of the night we still had 1,991 popcorn balls staring all of us in the face. We're thinking, "What the heck are we gonna do with all these things?" The following day, we stood at all four corners of a traffic light passing those popcorn balls out to every car that got a red light. We didn't even say who they were from, nor, asked for a vote because nobody, including the candidate, cared anymore. We just wanted rid of that mountain of popcorn balls. Oh! She did get elected the following week. But, we all sure paid for that election. Whew!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt - OMG! You have no idea, Matt. We thought it would be a breeze to crank 'em out. Whew, were we wrong?! I couldn't look at another popcorn ball for five years after that. Fortunately, I'm back to popcorn ball lovin' again. Thanks again for the recipe.
Hi Pamela! They are best the day of or the next day. But if wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an airtight container they will stay fresh for 3 to 4 days. They can also be frozen for a few weeks. If you freeze them, just sit them out at room temp to thaw out before serving. :)
Hi Matt... HELP, can we use microwave popcorn to make these popcorn balls as well? I have my disabled cousin coming over and he would enjoy making these but I only have microwave popcorn?!?!
Hello, sure you can! :) You will probably need to of the standard size bags of microwave popcorn to get 20 cups, possibly three. :) But if you aren't sure just pop a bag and then measure it out. :)
Do you think that this would work with a bunch of teens as a group activity? I'm mainly concerned about the timing of the marshmallows cooling down. Could we keep the sauce in multiple crock pots or a fondue pot?
Yeah it would probably be fine. I think the idea of crockpots would work well or a fondue pot. Fun idea for an activity! I recommend making it yourself first before doing it with a group.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Nice, I will try making it , i saw something like that in some desert shops in Hong Kong, didn't even know that name of popcorn ball, it's not popular here yet, but I think it will soon, lovely! Thanks a lot ! :)

confectioner's powdered sugar which is the same as icing sugar. And all come from white sugar. Confectioner's sugar is ground up white sugar with a little cornstarch added. Plain powdered sugar or icing sugar is just ground up white sugar with no cornstarch added. Either will work.
You can use normal sugar, the powdered sugar melts easier. If you use normal sugar only use half the amount, since it is more potent than powdered sugar. So just use a cup of sugar.
Absolutely love it even at my age. However I don't like corn syrup. What would you substitute it with please? Please don't say glucose. I am against glucose too. 😂😂😂Doesn't leave much option, does it? Thanks

what can you use if you cant't find corncyrup
There is a thing called "Golden Syrup" that will also work. Or do you have "Liquid Glucose?" That is pretty close to the same thing.

I wonder if something like molasses or even maple syrup could be used instead. Maybe it would only affect the color? How about agave syrup?

You can pop the corn however you want, with whatever popcorn popper you have. If you have an air popper you won't use any oil.
@inthekitchenwithmatt thank you
@inthekitchenwithmatt the popcorn balls are not forming so I thought maybe because of the oil
