    Introduction: our departure:
We set off early for Sarandë, the largest city in southern Albania. From its port, it's possible to reach the island of Corfu. In fact, there are two ferry companies that run the shuttle service, and we took the faster option on the outward journey.
By speedboat, the crossing to Corfu takes barely thirty minutes. This gave us the opportunity to admire the scenery on both coasts. Although we have to go through customs, it's all done very quickly.
    First stop - Afionas :
Our first stop is the village of Afionas, which sits atop a high cliff overlooking the sea, giving us a spectacular view of the small inhabited islands of Mathraki and Othonoi. But the place is best known for its double bay with beaches on both sides, named Porto Timoni. To get there, it's a 40-minute hike through the mountains. A must-do on your visit to Corfu.
    Second stop - Paleokastritsa:
Corfu's tourist mecca, Paleokastritsa was for centuries a simple fishing village. British and then German tourists discovered the area, and hotels began to spring up. The village stretches along three kilometers of coastline, lined with tavernas, restaurants, villas and bars. We visited the Byzantine Monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, set in the middle of a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea. We suggest a walk in the vicinity, offering spectacular views of the crystal-clear waters surrounding the 30-metre-high cliff.
    Third stop - Pélekas :
We then left for the village of Pélekas, 18 kilometers away. The small village sits at an altitude of 220 meters, making it an incredible vantage point over the entire island. In particular, it is famous for its majestic sunset when tourists abound. In the afternoon, as you can see, it's a little quieter.
    Fourth stop - Vlacherna Monastery:
One of the island's most important points of interest is the famous Vlacherna Monastery. Founded in the 17th century, the monastery is a former convent that has been empty since 1980. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The micro-island is linked to Corfu by a bridge, and is undoubtedly one of the island's most emblematic and unique sites.
Last stop - the old town:
The heart of the island, Corfu's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is well worth a visit. In addition to its two emblematic fortresses, you'll feel like you're straddling the border between Italy and Greece.
Our first stop was the old Venetian fortress, which covers what was once Corfu's old town in Byzantine times. After this visit, we moved on to Corfu's old town. Although the town's history goes back more than 3,000 years, the traces of the Venetian republic and the British protectorate are still very much present. It became part of Greece in 1864, and is unlike any other island in the country. In fact, the pedestrian arteries are very pleasant to walk, with an abundance of commerce.
