I played the shit out of this game! While I played all the ones with the pro players, this game was always my favorite. It was the first, and I enjoyed the customization that came with having random kids and me picking what position they should play.
I can't play with Mikey. He's way too slow to run the bases or to field. I mean he's basically just a home run or, you're out kinda player. I'm also always use Angela as my starting pitcher and Pablo as my reliever even though Angela is hardly a hitter. What I noticed about this game is that when I play hard mode I can't hit at all unless I'm at an open stance for some reason, but if I am at an open stance, I will score like 20 runs in a game. I don't know why, but it's like that for me.
When you say, “no stat increase,” do you mean that none of the players get their stats boosted by birthdays, playing at certain fields, team colors, etc.?
As far as I'm aware, that isn't in the original Baseball. The stat increase might be in the original when it comes to having specific players on your team like with the Khan brothers or the Webber twins since the game does hint to picking both of them on a team at specific points, but it's pretty hidden and I haven't noticed any noticable differences from the times I played. Baseball 2001 was the first to introduce that feature iirc.

Kenny is pretty solid also. The worst player hands down Jorge. He's so mediocre at everything, and he's a such a snob. He walks on the ball field with his nose so far in the air, he'd need a 10-foot pole just to pick it! What an ass.
