miss all of the humongous games from pajama sam to backyard sports. really made my childhood fun had all of them literally. wish I had them now being a 90s baby was the best. they don't make stuff like they use too smh!
Back in Elementary School, I had this, Backyard Football, Backyard Soccer, Backyard Baseball,Backyard Hockey, and Backyard Skateboarding. I beat the first 4 but never beat skateboarding.
Barry Dejay kinda reminds me of Al Roker for some reason. The only Backyard sports game I have is Backyard Soccer, it's not all too different from this.
If you went to create a player and named him Barry Dejay, you would unlock Barry Dejay and his stats were all maxed out. I wonder if there were similar easter eggs in the different games, although this is the only one i remember that had guest commentators, though i didn't play hockey or skateboarding. Would be interested to hear if anyone knows other easter eggs.
@PigsOnATrain It was released in 2001, but if it had a year in the title it would be Backyard Basketball 2002 (Humongous used the name-it-a-year-ahead thing)
@legoking831 I remember playing this game a lot as a kid and here's the thing. In the manual it says that in season play you MUST have custom players or that glitch will happen every time I used at least 1 I managed to beat the game
@wiley1080 According to the help, that's the Dobbs and Kawaguchis driveways combined. Actually, from 2007-2010 they kept 19 of the original characters. In Sandlot Sluggers and Rookie Rush, they hardly kept any. I could go on for a whole rant about what they did to the series, but I think the best way to sum it up is by saying that there's no fanbase to any of the newer games. I'm series, the reputation has been beyond destroyed. BTW, watch this interview at your own risk: watch?v=h0oRsgbVl9Y
@legoboy186 Well, I know what you mean, but there's much more problems outside of that. The game in general is very glitchy, and has some annoying controls. I also don't like how you can only put 5 people on your team at once. Basketball 2004 does have the license though, and fixed most of the problems from what I can tell.
I'm a bit curious about the sound quality, what took Humongous so long to step up to 22khz when LucasArts went for that way back in 1997 with Monkey Island 3: The Curse of Monkey Island? Could it've been for costs when kids didn't want to rely on computer specs?
I think it was an engine limitation. None of the games that use 11KHz audio plug into the Miles Sound System while all of the 22KHz ones do. Also, the foreign versions of Pajama Sam 3 have 22KHz audio on their PS1 counterparts, but the PC versions downscale it back to 11KHz.
Mr. Eight-Three-One ...But Curse of Monkey Island had a version of SCUMM that supported 22khz, it was even the last LucasArts & Monkey Island game to use the engine before they went with that used for Grim Fandango! I'd be surprised if it was really a licensing problem between Humongous and Lucasfilm Games (now the defunct LucasArts)... Wow, if only Ron Gilbert could've been informed by his former company they'd give the sources to him adding that they'd switch to the 3D engine.
Mr. Eight-Three-One Well, I wouldn't have minded Junior Adventures promoting to "Senior Adventures"; advanced point-n-click interactivity like with the many different SCUMM-based games whilst staying "winnable" for casual comfort, but even adding free movement besides just clicking on places with arrows to go there, maybe even those subtitles easily being available considering their usual option got removed with Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo (all we have is editing hegames.ini or ScummVM to force subtitles)...except, the target audience'd most likely get confused because it's suddenly unlike how they remembered it, just clicking around and that being it, then a sudden change in the ways to interact with stuff. I'm not even sure what it'd have been like if they didn't spend so much time on Backyard Sports!
Imo this game isn't that great because the fast characters seem to dominate, and you can't run diagonally without going slower so you're pretty much forced to run straight, so it feels a bit repetitive to me.
This man here is enjoying the activity of playing a video game during a basketball game and by doing so he has wasted his money in buying a ticket to said game.
Such nostalgia, and that intro...Backyard Sports could've and should've been a cartoon.
Remarkable how this game still holds up after 15 years.
Great part of my childhood. Nostalgiaing. Awesome game!

This is a great game from back in the day. I played this at a friend's house.

This rocks.
@JPhil151 This game did not have the NBA license, but did feature Kevin Garnett and Lisa Lesile. There are no NBA teams though.
Damn how could i forget this one!

@legoking831 i feel your pain backyard basketball and backyard baseball was my favorite games when i was young
@legoboy186 Well, I know what you mean, but there's much more problems outside of that. The game in general is very glitchy, and has some annoying controls. wow i remember I got this game when it first came out back in the day. I feel so old watching this haha
I used to be addicted to this. 😂
I remember every time i did season mode i always Had K.G. and Barry dejay just to destroy it! lol memories
Omg the nostalgia! I loved this game
@Persianpudding I liked this one because it was fast-paced, but that's just me.
Backyard sports series
@odenrz Nope. All the gameplays I have uploaded are from all the games I've got.
I thought Backyard Baseball 2003 had the worst voice acting. I was wrong.
Are you kidding? This has the same voice cast as all the original games. This is WAY better than BB2003's acting.

The SCUMM engine LucasArts was using at that point was completely different from the SCUMM engine Humongous was using.

My favorite players in this game are Kimmy Eckman, Luanne Lui, Maria Luna, Vicki Kawaguchi, and Lisa Leslie.

This is the game that started it all

I meant it more personally. This game got me started with basketball stats and NBA games
Ah, okay. That makes more sense, heh
He’s got the ball Lmaoo
Me and my family played backyard baseball
@wiley1080 I just find it funny that they think the series still has hope when the fanbase has been long gone.
Very cool game. I love Basketball!

@1599eswagger Wow, I have absolutely no idea what on Earth you just said.
Imo this game isn't that great because the fast characters seem to dominate, and you can't run diagonally without going slower so you're pretty much forced to run straight, so it feels a bit repetitive to me.
