I mix this in my salad with moringa, cranberry hibiscus and some very hardy asian greens that will grow through the summer. And the tips are great for a snack while I am farming outside. It has reseeded all over the farm. Great video to help get this info.out. Thanks again. Love to have you visit Planet Claire Farmacy!
i am not sure why everyone like the short videos. I like a full range of info and something to occupy my mind for a few minutes longer i guess. GREAT info though. Keep up the list of foods. I have my spring list of plants already forming.
Time, my good friend. Maybe for Pete as well. We all have a shortage of it these days. Contrast the great info you get from Pete in just a short period of time (he does put out longer, more thorough video's)...vs. the on & on & on video's Jon Kohler produces (nothing against him at all--but sometimes you just want him to get to the point & the facts !)
From my experience I can tell you that this plant likes shade better than direct sun. I confirm it because by accident I moved my pot to a place where the sun hits it a little in the morning and now with more time in the shade the plant develops faster. It already has flower and fruits. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this
Too funny. The past few days, I have been thinking about propagating my Katuk--which I LOVE to browse & is one of my favs--and going thru a couple old videos yesterday, re-watched 2 of yours on Katuk--including the one where you re-interviewed the gentleman living on his own food plot for a yr.
I grew up with katuk in the New Smyrna Beach yard but can never remember having ate it. I see it a lot in Central Florida today, I'll be sure to acquire some
Wow Pete, that's amazing!! I have couple of these plants and they grow like weeds (I'm in Davenport just south of Orlando) I never knew what it was and couldn't find out anywhere. I'm going to start harvesting it and enjoy it. Thank you so much for your videos, for the awesome information please keep it up!!! Hope to see you soon at your farm, I'm working on list of plants I would like to purchase from you. I'll try to contact you when I'm ready.
Thank you brother! Another great video! So education and inspirational! I was just trying to remember what this plant was called the other day as I heard it is perennial and thrives in our climate here in Florida, now I know! I'll be on the lookout for this one!
My favorite katuks with pumpkin green , bamboo shoot , large leafy ferns mostly grow in tropical jungle , add salty bean sauce stirred fried it together so yummy or you cook in coconut milk with turmeric powder sooooo yummy

I bought some katuk in the spring, doubled what I bought and put in a glass of water until cuttings grew roots and leaves. In early summer I planted outside. Most are doing good but I have lost a few. Seems to be the ones in direct sun died.
moonmoon I think that is The problem. I put down two layers of cardboard and 6 inches of mulch then I use a long pointed metal stake to poke a whole threw the cardboard and into ground then I plant my rooted cuttings into that. So we are most likely looking at either too much or too little water or too much or too little sun. Having ruled out water and me living in Texas I'm looking at too much 🌞. So this spring I'll plant three times as much lol...
inthestyx i wonder if they would do well in shade, and then how much shade. I’ll be transplanting my poor little wilted one to another bed, if it withstands the move then it’ll be a kicker resilient seed producer! i still got hope haha! I’d maybe try interplanting them with a guild, research what they’d grow well with, something to give them a little shade perhaps.
I was able to kill 3 cuttings from neglect, LOL... I'll be visiting ECHO to purchase a few to start over and hopefully I wont kill 'em this time. I fell in LOVE with the flavor of Katuk when I was introduced to it.. thanks for fooling with the camera Pete! Love your videos. Wishing you nothing less but the best of success! 🐝🐝🐝☮️☯️
Hello Pete! Good day from Loma Linda, California. Can we grow Katuk here in California? It would be awesome if it does. I already have one morninga tree, Malabar spinach(we call it alugbati in the Philippines), amaranth spinach(Asian Chinese green amaranths/widely known as kulitis in the Philippines) , lots of sweet potatoes and a dozen of taro plants.

Here in Borneo Island, we call this 'sweet shoot', stir fry with eggs it simply delicious. Can't take too much of it because this green vege is cold in nature.
I planted a single stalk every 24 inches down the front of my yard as a hedge. I was hoping they would grow more stalks from that spot but nothing yet. Looks like I'll have to plant more cuttings next to the established ones. Any thoughts or experience on the matter would be appreciated...
I'll try it however when I was watering twice a day the katuk didn't like it and would turn yelled and start to die off. When I stopped and gradually water less and less it started to do best after I water heavy every 3 days.
I love katuk... the taste is so good... i plant this vegetable in front and back yard... good for women pregnant and mom have baby (good for the mom milk) sorry, my english is not good.. 😅

How does one get to check out your nursery? I’ve gone to Sulcatagrove on an appointment type for one tree and left with 4 lol. I would definitely like to visit (I live in Tarpon Springs) if it’s a possibility.
Sounds like you started to say to minimize intake, similar to moringa? I've heard it can "build up" in your system, which I have no idea what that means but it sounds ominous.
Pete, you said that your flowers turn into little balls. I have seen pictures of plants with WHITE Balls on the flower stems. Mine only ever go to a green/yellow/red flat looking flower. It never seems to make anything else. Mine are all clones of each other, so I wouldn't expect one to be different from another. However, is it possible I have maybe a Male only variety? I would really like to get some that form the small white ball shaped fruit that I have seen in a very few pictures. Thanks! 😀 Love your website (ordered several things, but not Katuk) and I want to come make a purchase in person once just to see and pickup a few things you don't ship.
I have 8 of these. About a year and a half old chest high. All dying. Don't know why. They all just seeded heavily and are dropping every leaf from the bottom up and look quite pale yellow. I've tried fertilizer and water. Live in south Florida no frost

Sayur manis, sweet greens.

Sounds like you started to say to minimize intake, similar to moringa? I've heard it can "build up" in your system, which I have no idea what that means but it sounds ominous.
You really don’t want more than 20% of your daily intake of this plant. I’ve never heard that about moringa.
Why limit intake?
There's a chemical in it that in high doses may cause problems www.eattheweeds.com/edible-katuk-sauropus-androgynus-2/

Besides eating it raw how do you cook it? Stir fry?
Yes, soups, steamed and stir frying etc.
so what's the issue with eating more than 20% of your diet a day?
I would love to get some from you. You said you sell them i believe i live near you . P.R
can it take any frost?
And recover yes. It can get set back during a cold winter.
Every katuk bush grown here are literally neglected. But we love eating it.

Interesting. Only time they’ve ever died back for me is during a cold winter. That’s really odd.
Would it grow in zone 10 in Los Angeles a few miles from the ocean or does it like the heat?
Yes, definitely. You’re in a great spot to grow katuk.
Sun or Shade or both what does it like.
It prefers dappled light but grows in full sun also.
Do deer eat it?
I haven’t had that issue here.
You didn't say why you shouldn't eat to much per week?
My flowers don’t get to fruit. We have pollinators
Why not eat Ketuk constantly?
