    i think u are confused with the yield stress .u said for ductile material failure point is ultimate stress .

  • @harimyoldpal
    @harimyoldpal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Nice video but i think max value of stress to be considered for ductile material is the UTS not the yield point(in the video it seems UTS is confused with yield point.Yield point comes below the UTS in stress-strain curve.) and the max value of stress to be considered for brittle material is the yield point.(as it breaks soon after the yield point.)

      Sir,I was also thinking the same,but yield stress point from "Ductile graph" is not shown in this video,see the curve from A to B,yield stress point(upper yield stress point) is at the highest ordinate(Y axis) on that curve (curve from A to B),the equation is right,yes,we consider" yield point","AFTER YIELD POINT ON STRESS STRAIN CURVE PLASTIC REGION STARTS"suppose a ceiling fan designer designs a shaft of fan,he doesn't want the shaft to even expand linearly,he practically designs it so that the "shaft remains in elastic region",imagine what would happen if he designs considering "point D""Breaking stress point",will anyone purchase a fan whose shaft expands,isn't it risky for a person who sleeps in that room,i hope its crystal clear now

      @@ammarelsheikh5335 no ! Yielding point is taken in most design. You don't want material to deform in plastic limit where it doesn't regain its shape

  • @subakaranr.9252
    @subakaranr.9252 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    More importantly this theory can not be used for a Ductile Material, because for a Ductile material the failure criteria is Yielding not UTS and in ductile materials failure can also occur due to shear, but this theory does not say anything about the Shear stress, so It CAN NOT be used for Ductile material

    Little confusing, Point A is the proportional limit, just above Point A before Point B is the yield stress, and point D is the ultimate stress or more commonly known as ultimate tensile stress. However, in this video he keeps calling the ultimate tensile stress the yield stress and it is wrong. My machine Design book by Norton, even states that it is Sut which stands for Sigma Ultimate Tensile. This guy needs to stop calling it yield as he does in all his videos
