    Antler is awesome, it and bone are sometimes called paleo-plastic. And you can soak the antler to make it softer and spray water on it to cut down on dust. Bone dust can cause white lung, I believe, but it takes years of exposure.

    So to get the inner diameter right all you have to do is get a ring mandrel kit. They usually come with a ring set that you just slip over the persons finger to tell what size they need. Then you take that ring and center it on you piece of antler and trace the inside with a pencil and you have a guide on the inner diameter

    Hi! I've made myself an uroboros ring from a ram horn by cutting out a flat piece of the surface of the horn first. Treated horns usually have a large hole inside them so it was uneasy to find a spot that would fit my finger by just cutting the horn in half, but I figured that the surface was plenty of usable spots. I thought that the material was more fragile so at first I went very gently on it, but then for the sake of the experiment I made the "tail" part much thinner than the rest of the "body" of the snake. And it went pretty well! It's more durable than I expected it to be, actually seems pretty unbreakable, and the texture of the ram horn looks amazing on my finger.

    My gold wedding band shrunk enough over years that it no longer fit, I made a white tail ring for myself by drill and dremel on the inside and left the outside natural, it looks great is light weight and yes very durable too. I didn’t have a good respirator so I set up a good draft and a fan to suck and then blow the dust away. That worked great but you definitely need to be careful.

    How long does it take for the dust to settle? How can I do this and keep my family safe from breathing like if they walk in I guess keep door locked? How would you clean up the dust without getting it in ya lungs from tables or walls or floors I was gonna make a homemade grind box

    • @usskullhunter
      @usskullhunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the best thing you can do is run a vacuum cleaner and hold the hose right up to where you are carving. If you can suck up the dust as you are making it, that will go a long way in keeping it out of your work area and out of your lungs. But yes, having a designated area helps. Just as long as there is fresh air coming in the dust will not stay suspended long.

    • @usskullhunter

    If I don't own a respirator will a mask work alright?

      It should. A good test is to simply see if you can still smell any bone dust when you wear it.

      I have a suggestion that might work.
      I was a cop for 31 years and when I went to the scene of a homicide or any other kind of death, I would plug both nostrils with Vicks VapoRub or I could not smell anything. It made my work easier, plus it kept anything from going up my nose.
      I hope this helps. If there is any reason why this will not work, I’m sure that our mutual friend Hunter will know and will direct you accordingly.
      Good luck!
