It’s honestly fucking heartbreaking for me to see the public reception of fools paradise. I haven’t seen it, but the fact that he worked on it for ten years and clearly has so much passion for it and care for his project makes it a crushing blow to see the reviews and stuff. I really hope Charlie uses that as inspiration and a lesson in film making, rather than making him want to give up. I know if that happened to me I would be crushed and give up, but seeing how hard these 3 guys have worked on what they love, I think Charlie has more heart than I do to get up and keep trying
Breaks my heart too 😥 Havent seen it yet but will, its on Prime now for purchase. I dont trust review critics, they ALWAYS rate something the exact opposite of how I feel
I know I'm just a guy and my opinion doesn't matter at all. I don't expect Charlie will ever see this comment, but in the off chance that he does, I hope he knows the fans love him no matter what. It also breaks my heart to see the reaction the movie is getting too, but as you said I hope that it drives him further. I honestly consider him a modern comedic genius. To me, the worst possible result of this movie flopping commercially would be him not getting back on the horse and trying again. Don't give up, Charlie, please keep going. I know you have a legendary movie in you somewhere.
I didn't really get the point of Fool's Paradise until I watched this episode of the podcast. If the whole point was finding that one little bond/community between Charlie's character and Ken Jeong's character, that is a good plot, but it didn't come across in the movie and the ending just felt so random. The movie as a whole felt like a bunch of bits to me and didn't really connect.
In today's age, it is so refreshing to watch 3 grown men openily and genuinely supporting one another not only as long time friends, but as creative peers. And be legitimately happy and excited for each other, from Wrexham to these films... I love their friendship as much as I love this podcast and Sunny ❤

Not taking away from Glenn and Rob, but I firmly believe Charlie is the reason casual fans become obsessive fans. And if he's unhinged or exuberant in his movie, it's because Sunny has allowed him to explore and go so far in a character that he feels comfortable not even speaking in a film. I commented something to that effect on a previous episode, but the boys are just harvesting those Ws. It is epic to see, and even more epic to see how happy they are on each other's behalfs. It was also wonderful having Meg back. The boys left to their own devices tend to derail any kind of structure to these free flowing conversations. She just makes it stick somehow, and it makes a world of difference while also feeling entirely natural. What a talented bunch of people.
The accolades and praise that the boys and Kaitlin are getting are so well deserved. I’ve loved Sunny since it’s inception and I couldn’t think of any group of people I’d love more to have a beer/coffee with for an afternoon.
This is definitely not a slight against the other guys bc they're all great, but I've always thought Glenn Howerton is the best actor amongst the main Sunny group - nobody does self-righteous indignation and unhinged like he does while still making it funny and scary at the same time, it's weird, but he makes it work. Glad to see him get his flowers in the episode and excited to see Blackberry and Fool's Paradise.
The production value of this pod is getting increasingly impressive. I know other people get elaborate intros and animations made, but the audio quality here is just Crispy AF. A++ compression and mixing. I hope someone gets my Bupkis reference (a show I hate with one of the best Charlie Day performances ever)
I feel like if they’re compressing anything it would hopefully be very light. Otherwise there wouldn’t be any dynamic range in the volume that they speak at. It’s definitely gain matched very well, and I agree the audio is very crispy. I’m also assuming the microphones and recording setup on a physical level is helping to make the mixing in post production a lot easier. The hardware does the “hard” work 😅 Definitely could be using a limiter to keep the peaks of audio uniform though, but adding a lot of gain to the lowest volume in dialogue while decreasing the peaks of the highest volume (compression) could lead to more issues than it would solve. I still gotta go to school for this so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt 😂
@@Bittamin I'm simply paying attention to the movement. The pickup pattern in those SM 7B's are pretty central. I see them almost going waaaaay off that range quite a lot with great retention of volume and dynamic range. I'm also no expert, but sat at the desk for quite a few live shows in pubs and mic control is critical if you have no compression. These guys require NO mic control so the compression must be on point.
It’s so weird because these are wildly successful and famous people yet I feel oddly proud of them as if they’re personal friends, seeing them grow from a tiny low budget TV show to these Hollywood stars is so, I don’t have a word for it it’s ❤🎉❤
@@IamTehWizard I just hope someone eventually yells it out to him and he reacts instantly. I'd be happy to know he's had the thought about it before prior to this conversation haha
I love that the Boys are all doing amazing together at the sametime. A new season coming out for Always Sunny, an amazing weekly Podcast, Touring for Sunny meet and greets, Glenn and Charlie both having Movies coming out at the box office together on the sameday and of Course Rob and his successful bromance with Ryan Reynolds that led to the purchase of the Oldest active Football team and within 2 seasons captured the championship which led to a league promotion. The Boys are just killing it in the game of life
I wonder if Glenn watched the thick of it in preparation for blackberry. Getting some malcolm vibes from his performance, though that could be partly due to the cinematography too
I saw an interview where director Matt Johnson said he was influenced by The Big Short by Adam McKay, who also directed the pilot of Succession, which was created by Jesse Armstrong, who was a writer on The Thick Of It!
Charlie and Glenn making 2 wildly different / original movies in ways only they can! Who would of thought there would be a day where I was genuinely excited to see a movie about a blackberry 😆
Proud of the gang. Been a big fan of Sunny since season 2! (Uncle bought us season 1 DVD for Christmas when I was 14… mom not too happy with him for it, at the time) but have been a big fan of your guys’ work ever since. You guys partially molded my sense of humor into a, “Sunny sense of humor,” to which I’m grateful! (People seem to think I’m funny) I’m both happy and proud for all three of you guys! Charlie, for writing, directing, and staring in his own movie. Glenn, for staring in his own movie. To Ryan’s friend for being promoted. And also for Meg, for being on time, as well as producing the only podcast that I listen too or creep on.
Started practicing piano 6 months ago and I just want to be able to doodle around on a piano like Charlie does. These intros give me more inspiration then he probably knows.
I hope Glenn gets more serious roles after Blackberry. i haven’t even seen the movie yet, but literally everything he’s in outside sunny shows this man has range. I’m stoked for Charlie and his movie but Glenn and Rob both deserve their shine as stars just like Charlie (wether it’s comedic or not) These 3 are amazing
Hopefully this keeps happening at midnight those jabronis left us hanging for like a month to what? FILM??? SMH Yeah right must be code for nose clam parties on pdiddy esque fishing vessels
@@breadordecide I actually felt bad after watching Fools Paradise. I felt bad that I didn't like it as much as I thought I would and it was Charlie's passion project. Blackberry I surprisingly enjoyed much more.
I enjoyed it (Fools Paradise)for what it was . It was a Hollywood Satire. It was beautifully shot, and was against the grain for sure. But I really enjoyed it. BlackBerry was really good as well.
Production value is through the roof.. you guys are really killing it right now with everything you're doing.. and you haven't even begun to peak.. keep up the good work.
I love how earnest and eager Rob is about his appreciation for both of their talents and achievements. If I wasn't already going to see both films he woulda convinced me, I'll tell u that
I have watched these guys from the very beginning, I caught episode 1 of Sunny the first time it aired and was hooked. I even liked Glenn in that 80s show. So happy for them and all their success
I am so hyped about Blackberry, literally just from the clips shown. I've only seen Glen in this and other similar comedic roles. I knew he had range cuz Dennis has emotions (aside from empathy) but I was so drawn in just from the clips.
I can't even imagine how Glenn and Charlie feel upon seeing the WILDLY varying reviews on their respective movies. I just saw Fool's Paradise, and MAN did it suck -- wish it hadn't, but it felt like a PG movie trying to survive in an R-rated environment, and it was just a boring mess. Haven't seen Blackberry yet.
Glenn is a formidable actor, just slightly on another level than his Sunny compatriots. Rob and Charlie are hilarious and charismatic obviously but Glenn’s intensity is outstanding.
I don’t think I have seen a fan casting of any superhero movie ever that doesn’t include Glenn as a villain, major or minor. I’m glad that more people behind the scenes are seeing that now as well
I hadn't heard of Fools Paradise before this podcast. Very excited to see it now. The trailer gives me Cohen Brothers vibes. It's crazy how Charlies career is just booming right now. Love that he can also do his own project!
From South Jersey ten minutes minutes outside of Philadelphia and have been-a die hard fan of these guys since day probably three or four. To seeing these three actual friends enjoy their lives and prosper. An EVERYTHING! They deserve have finally happening in their careers, all culminating at once. And still do this podcast is one of the highlights of my week.
As someone who grew up in Hamilton, ON, the story of RIM/BlackBerry hits so close to home. Glenn's portrayal of Jim Balsille was hilarious and insane. He was on the news nightly when we had a chance at getting an NHL team. They could've made a sub story about that on it's own.
the amount of pride i have in the whole gang is unbelievable i cant believe it took this long for them to be in something so big (not counting their tv shows and the movies charlie has been in as they were great mythic quest especially)
@@adrianflores2505 The Christmas episode was a special released on DVD in 2009 after the end of season 5. It was only aired on TV in 2010 and started to consider it as if it were from season 6 but it was always from season 5. The special fits 5's vibe more, the first five seasons were shot in 480p and only after the sixth season that the series was in HD. So it's kind of bizarre to see the whole season in 1080p and the season finale to be in 480p and Mac's mom's house catches fire in season six and will move in with Charlie's mom, but in the Christmas episode, her house is intact so it doesn't make sense for it to be the season finale of season 6..
You may also notice that seasons 4-7 were always 13 episodes long. The Christmas episode was supposed to be episode 13 of season 5. Episode 13 of season 6 was supposed to be an episode called "The Gang Gets Successful" but it never aired and scenes from it became flashbacks to the episode "How Mac Got Fat ", I believe FX aired the Christmas episode to fill the hole in the missing episode in season six.
Perfect piano morning intro while having my first sips of coffee lol....King Kreep is spoiled but grateful this morning, my life is good as long as I don't pick up that first drink and try to be useful to others throughout the day...Love how Glenn says don't talk to me and then they get right to talkin.😆 Have a new appreciation for Mondays when the gang is on. Lookin forward to seeing these films with Glenn and Charlie.
Hadn't heard of BLACKBERRY until this and just saw the reception: holy frijoles. Day is in probably the biggest box-office movie this year, Rob just had a "soon to be a 'Base On a True Story' movie" season with Wrexham and Glenn may well get an acting nod if these reviews for BLACKBERRY stay up and the film gets some traction in theatres. Wild year for these guys.
I'm so happy that Glenn is finally getting recognized for his subtle, nuanced performances. Since Season 1 of Sunny I'm still continually blown away by just how many emotional transitions he can make in rapid-fire succession, in a way that feels organic and even graceful. To watch Glenn is to watch a masterclass in emotional expressivity.... And he's funny as fuck!

The hardware does the “hard” work 😅
Definitely could be using a limiter to keep the peaks of audio uniform though, but adding a lot of gain to the lowest volume in dialogue while decreasing the peaks of the highest volume (compression) could lead to more issues than it would solve.
@@Bittamin oh...and compressions should ideally all be done in post. So you're definitely right there
It’s so weird because these are wildly successful and famous people yet I feel oddly proud of them as if they’re personal friends, seeing them grow from a tiny low budget TV show to these Hollywood stars is so, I don’t have a word for it it’s ❤🎉❤
Holy shit both of these movies look entertaining. Glenns performance...just from the trailer is insane.
The piano intros are so god damn delightful
I saw an early screening of BlackBerry last week, and OH MY GOD Glen is electric. Most captivating performance of the year.
Are we all in agreement that Glenn could be now known as "Mushy'??
Id be more than happy to call him that until he says he doesn't want it 😅😂
mushy it is
I was looking for someone to say this, I'm in
@@IamTehWizard I just hope someone eventually yells it out to him and he reacts instantly. I'd be happy to know he's had the thought about it before prior to this conversation haha
Sounds like the german word for the female genital ^^
ive already started calling him mushy in conversation 😭
I love that the 3 of them are getting wins outside of Sunny, all at the same time. Wrexham promoted. Fools paradise. Blackberry.
I wouldn't call Fool's Paradise a W after all the reviews that have come out💀
@@MamadNobariTrue. Charlie put 10 years of his life into that and thats it..?? Thats the outcome? And its being universally panned lmfao...Wow.
@@MamadNobari Glenn's movie is amazing though.
This is the only podcast I watch in its entirety, I love it so much.
I just love Charlie's loose, relaxed playing. Really puts me in a good mood.
The Boys are just killing it in the game of life
so glad that Charlie realized that Glen's thanks at the end was the same as the trampoline speech
I love hearing friends talk up each other and also fellow artists talking about their craft with enthusiasm so refreshing. Thank you everybody.
He does that smile. The same one he does when he’s a philanthropist wondering if he’s handsome. I love it.
I wonder if Glenn watched the thick of it in preparation for blackberry. Getting some malcolm vibes from his performance, though that could be partly due to the cinematography too
100%. Combination of Fassbender in Steve Jobs and Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It
I saw an interview where director Matt Johnson said he was influenced by The Big Short by Adam McKay, who also directed the pilot of Succession, which was created by Jesse Armstrong, who was a writer on The Thick Of It!
🎉
How big are your Uncle's hands?
Blackberry is giving me “The Big Short” feels. Can’t wait to see both films!
Started practicing piano 6 months ago and I just want to be able to doodle around on a piano like Charlie does. These intros give me more inspiration then he probably knows.
I love Charlie's little piano bits
I hope Glenn gets more serious roles after Blackberry. i haven’t even seen the movie yet, but literally everything he’s in outside sunny shows this man has range. I’m stoked for Charlie and his movie but Glenn and Rob both deserve their shine as stars just like Charlie (wether it’s comedic or not) These 3 are amazing
Charlie and Fools Paradise were bad. Glenn and Blackberry were great.
Man if Charlie ever drops an album of solo piano instrumentals, I’m getting that on vinyl the day it comes out 👏
fasho
This is why they are so awesome, they revel in each others achievements and hype eachother up. I love their adoration for eachother.
So happy this was uploaded at midnight tonight - couldn’t be better timing TYSM - loving the musical openings we get occasionally
Hopefully this keeps happening at midnight those jabronis left us hanging for like a month to what? FILM??? SMH Yeah right must be code for nose clam parties on pdiddy esque fishing vessels
They're always uploaded at midnight
They’re killin my man Charlie in the reviews man sheesh
lmao
What hurts is seeing how excited they are and sure of the film…and then critics and audiences are like nooooo.
The funniest part of this podcast is the simplicity of the shows camera work vs the nonstop cuts of the podcast about the show.
I could listen to Charlie's piano playing for hours, so mesmerizing.
Production value is through the roof.. you guys are really killing it right now with everything you're doing.. and you haven't even begun to peak.. keep up the good work.
Mushy killed it in Blackberry
I will 100% be taking a full day off work and going to watch both of these movies in theaters back to back. Can't wait to see both of them.
Congrats guys, ill be going to see both of your movies in theaters. The first movies ive seen in theaters in 6 years
I've never needed an episode to show up randomly more in my life, a gaggle of icons are you all
I love how earnest and eager Rob is about his appreciation for both of their talents and achievements. If I wasn't already going to see both films he woulda convinced me, I'll tell u that
I have watched these guys from the very beginning, I caught episode 1 of Sunny the first time it aired and was hooked. I even liked Glenn in that 80s show. So happy for them and all their success
My god the intro to this episode is absolutely fantastic. Everything. The idea to start it with Charlie on the piano, the editing, the vibe...perfect.
Can’t wait to rewatch this episode after seeing both films this weekend :) Infinitely excited and proud
I stumbled on this show mid season 3 and never looked back. These guys are like family to me. Such a cool episode.
Glenn is a formidable actor, just slightly on another level than his Sunny compatriots. Rob and Charlie are hilarious and charismatic obviously but Glenn’s intensity is outstanding.
Wow. Charlie playing the piano is so relaxing I could sit for hours when he plays he has so much talent omg…
i really like when charlie is just noodling with an instrument in the openings
I don’t think I have seen a fan casting of any superhero movie ever that doesn’t include Glenn as a villain, major or minor. I’m glad that more people behind the scenes are seeing that now as well
Can't wait to see these movies! Fantastic to hear the background production of them. Hat's off to Charlie finishing it after ten years!
That cut to Glenn's character in Fool's Paradise almost laid me out lol
I hadn't heard of Fools Paradise before this podcast. Very excited to see it now. The trailer gives me Cohen Brothers vibes. It's crazy how Charlies career is just booming right now. Love that he can also do his own project!
Ken Jeong is an INCREDIBLE actor. A guy that can commit to absurd comedy like he does can really commit to anything and it shows in his performances.
Thank you guys for all the years of hard work.
The Simpsons referenced IASIP last night. You finally hit the big time! Can't wait to watch the movies.
I wish I had a 2 hour cut of Charlie tinkering on the piano to listen to at work. So relaxing and chill
Charlie needs to come out with an album
Whenever I hear him play music, I hunger for more
As someone who grew up in Hamilton, ON, the story of RIM/BlackBerry hits so close to home. Glenn's portrayal of Jim Balsille was hilarious and insane. He was on the news nightly when we had a chance at getting an NHL team. They could've made a sub story about that on it's own.
BlackBerry was so FUCKING GOOD. Oscar worthy performance.
the amount of pride i have in the whole gang is unbelievable i cant believe it took this long for them to be in something so big (not counting their tv shows and the movies charlie has been in as they were great mythic quest especially)
I hope you guys consider the christmas episode as season five when you talk about it.
Me too. I hate that the Christmas episode is placed as the season finale of season 6 when it was meant to be the season finale of season 5.
@@PhilipJFry3000 do you know why they did that ?
It’ll probably just depend on which one is closer to Christmas.
I love these Charlie Day warm opens.
Watching succession score over scenes of simple cars driving down the road is my proof that ost really amplify everything
Glad Jon Brion got his credit, love these guys. They fully appreciate everyones talent
When we open on Charlie on piano, I'm a happy camper.
The world definitely needs more movies starring Glen Howerton.
So glad Charlie mentioned the trampoline speech at the end, it also leapt to my mind 🤣🤣🤣
Blackberry and Fool's Paradise aren't out in my country for like another two months. I'll be saving this podcast for then.
I mean the movies aren't out in America yet either. It's not like they spoil it.
@@gorillaglue99 eh, maybe he wants to be surprised by their appearance/performance and the clips might ruin that.
@@crankfastle8138 I'm with you. I don't even like seeing trailers these days before movies. I want to be 120% surprised by every aspect of the movie. It's the only way I can truly enjoy them these days.
@vicioustuna2012 I feel you on the trailers. When I first saw Thor Ragnarok I hadn't seen so much as a still from the movie so it was a fun surprise finding out who Thor had to fight in the gladiator arena. Had I been following it at all prior to seeing it I would've had that moment ruined for me
Ugh...marvel movies
Getting hit with Charlie playing (relaxing piano) the second this video popped up compared to an ad was so refreshing. I wanna hear where that riff was going it was so good!
