    Tip for good pro mock up: make them yourself, mockups are usually objects that everybody have, use your camera or phone to take some good pics and edit them how ever you want and boom you have original good and quality looking mockup

    You can always use other tools to just make them, if you have a newer phone and a white backdrop, most of the time you can just take a quick photo that you scene yourself and then bring it into a photo editing software. Sometimes if you are competent enough you can just draw your own, add some texture, and then you have even more control of your workspace.

    Love the advice and insight! How about interactive mock-ups to take it a step further? I feel like clients appreciate even more when they can interact (digitally) but also physical mock-ups. I’ve used the Ai ESKO studio plugin for creating interactive mock-ups or simply just getting the correct angles. I guess this could be more catered to packaging, but a very simple process and can customize backgrounds and add in your own authentic content as well. It’s pretty dang expensive though, I digress! Thank you for this! XD is okay, but I feel like it still has a long way to go when mocking up digital interactive prototypes.

    I'm new to design for the most part. But I've always felt that it was common knowledge to use products that relate to the product at hand. For example, My latest client is a commercial glazier. Àll the mocks I used are construction related. They told me they want to get a wrap on a stuck during discovery phase. So guess what I did? I selected a mockup with a truck as well lol 🤣 if I would have put coffee ups and plants my client would have likely not selected me.

    Preparation and future planning, that old chestnut! I have to admit that I've been making mine for years. Take 10 random photos everyday in the town, on the road, in the office ..... do a weekly trawl and prep then you have a massive library in no time. That shot you think is worthless will be priceless one evening.

      Using your own imagery is always better providing the quality is high. Stock image sites exist for designers, so I think for a showcasing your work it's not an issue, but for the actual designs it might be better to use your own imagery if possible

    One thing I disagree with about having a library of mockups save on our computer is that they get outdated very fast. Pay attention to never use an out-of-date mockup (e.g. en iPhone 7 mockup when the latest one is iPhone 12)

  • @sajejekyllhyde4647

    I absolutely despise looking for mock-ups because I can never find what I’m looking for, I just started an alternative lifestyle brand and hardly anything I ever find on the internet fits the aesthetic of my business. I think mock-ups are so essential to showcase your brand and having ones that don’t represent your brand can potentially lead you to losing out on both customers and sales.
    Is there anyway you could do a tutorial on how to create mock-ups? Because I’d be damned if I ever display my very gothic products, logo or graphics next to a monstera plant in an ikea jute holder on a marble background.
    Please help.

    If I know Blender modelling, how good is the idea of modelling the most standard mockup things beforehand and adjusting them to your needs?

    • @kobod
      @kobod 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try that. You can also import the models you make into adobe dimension and easily put your graphics on to your models in there. You can even create your own scene there and it'll automatically fix the perspective and lighting.

    • @JohnFlower-NZ
      @JohnFlower-NZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best apps are the ones that you know how to use. You know Blender.
      If you have standard items modelled you'll be following the advice of this video: be prepared. If you are skilled in Blender you will be able to create excellent mockups.
      I suspect the mockup process shown in this video takes a 2d image and deforms it to fit a 2d template. This is a limited form of UV Mapping. Blender being 3d will allow you greater freedom because you can move the camera around, choose between realistic and NPR render methods, and change the lighting.
      If you want a 3d effect, 3d graphics software will usually do it better than 2d graphics software.

    • @Yourbestfriendsebastian
      @Yourbestfriendsebastian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s fairly straight forward to make your own mockups in 3D. Look into how Blender can give you output of multipasses for reflection, shadow, gi, object ID-passes etc so you can composit in Photoshop, use the correct blending modes to make it look like the and place a smart object - where you can easily replace the graphics - in the hierarchy so it’s affected by the passes.
      If you want a more straight out of render-solution, for added realism and flexibility, create models and take some time making templates for the textures so that you can save your graphics easily, place it in the blender material and hit render.

    I find the first two tips kind of contradictory. If you want to relate your mock-ups back to the project itself then limiting yourself to just the mock-ups you’ve already harvested sounds pretty limiting.
    Keeping particular mock-ups on hand is great but if you want it to feel truly bespoke then one of the many free mock-ups you’ve already seen might not do the trick

    • @JohnFlower-NZ
      @JohnFlower-NZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, Izzy. For a 3d effect a 3d graphics app is superior.
      For a while I was doing design challenges with a friend. They used Photoshop and Illustrator. I used Blender. Given an hour, I was able to get more done and to a higher standard.
      I work with a bunch of 2d artists. They, like Satori, don't have time to learn a 3d package. They do appreciate it when I have time to create a 3d model for them to showcase their 2d art.

    Great content!
    I'm not sure if it's your accent, but you sound mad pompous when giving advice. Dial that back a few notches.

    So a pro uses the same 100 mock-ups but an amateur searches the web for the best and latest mock-ups. What?

    Download what you need when you need it = Amateur? Come on what’s wrong with that? Each idea is unique I don’t see the advantage of downloading in advanced! Not to mention that’s a waste of disk space and indexing what you download and looking for them when you need them is just as time consuming vs browsing online…

    Tom , I am a big fun of yours, but lately you are overloading with random short clips on each of your videos including too much of graphic effects. This is overwhelming for 5-6 min videos, and I find myself distracted and loosing interest and concentration.

    How pro should we be ?
    When a client only pays 5 dollar or max 10 dollars for a logo and also demands many free concepts and revisions . 😂😂😂😂😂😂
