The locking pin for the tensioner was a great idea, but the way he secured the pin behind the 10mm fastener will prevent it from moving forward, as well as backwards! If you have a chance, just roll each side of the pin like a cotter pin and allow the pin to move out and in.

That little tension isn't going to affect the tensioner plunger from moving. I'd worry more about the pin breaking from fatigue as the plunger moves when running. I'm also concerned that the plunger moves so far out. It would seem to me that it's almost topped out in stroke and won't be able to make up any belt stretch. I'm not familiar with this platform, but others you can insert the pin back in the original hole after pulling it and rotating the engine over a few times.

@@guhfluh I know a lot of them have a ratchet type device - a simple dog & slots built into them so that they can't retract back .... however i'm not sure if these particular engines are meant to retract a bit (doubt it though). With that being said I believe these guys might know the normal operating range of the tensioner - load stop position etc. on this particular engine far better than that of myself and are merely using it in much of the same way a built in stop device would function on many other engines.
I know from first hand experience if they fail and retract it makes for a very bad day.... especially on zero tolerance heads etc..
Have worked on many vehicles that have had it happen even including atv's (Suzuki particularly - a common problem)
I do however agree with the op's concern of it possibly being stiff enough to slow the virtually instant movement needed..... and also your concern of it eventually breaking off.

Watching at work, and occasionally I have to pause it. However every time I pause, and it stops on someone, they are usually smiling. You guys are very lucky to have each other, and it's incredibly cool to see everyone come together to finish this car in time. "Fire it up!!"

Brent seems to be a very humble man always the first to give recognition to the people that it is due. Whether there friends, family, strangers he is always grateful.
Can’t wait for Cleetus and Brent to get hypie together at the event. Those two have killer energy together.
Both shops have their own strengths, cleetus is a driver, a crowd pleaser, and good at marketing. His events bring the racing community together. The guys at PFI are are badass builders and fabricators. While team cleetus slowely does more of their own building and fabing, the PFI guys are getting more into marketing. Everyone is working hard towards the same goals.
@@aliceshaw8265 Cleetus has gotten in and worked on a bunch of stuff. Sorry, but if I was making money from getting merch sent out, editing videos, planning events, and talking to vendors I would hire someone to do a lot of the build work too. You will see the same thing happen to PFI if their subscriber numbers get close. Only so many hours in the day and you hire out what you can get for cheaper than your own time. That's how you become successful. Both channels are great for different reasons, but I hope you realize how many more fans Cleetus has helped PFI and BoostedBoiz with, not just from collaborations but events as well. It's a symbiotic relationship and everyone is winning, you should be happy for the future success of all the channels involved.

Phong is such a macgyver and I love it. His little ideas that makes a world of difference reminds me of myself but at an older more genius level. He's definitely a crucial part in building a perfect running machine.
More Boost the pin didn't make sense to me but the valve lapping spoke volumes to me haha
@@paulnoecker1202 oh well lemme explain on hydraulic tentioners they tend to fail and loose fluid so they they lose their tension. when that happens your timing will be off from skipping teeth without the tension. What he did was pretty much lock it in place so so it would always have tension even if the hydraulic fluid were to leak out and fail. That way you could potentially never throw off your timing causing Catatropic failure. Does that make.sense its.the best I can explain it without actually showing you?
@@paulnoecker1202 so then tensioner tries to pull back in it can't be because the pin will hit the washer and stop it from sliding back inside keeping tension on the belt

I'm guessing these Engines are interference engines!? Meaning when pistons are TDC they contact intake and or exhaust valves. Correct!?!?

Phong is a smart man 👌🏽 keep him around
So I have always wanted to see 2 K-series motors fixed together side by side then geared together with a custom housing, basically making a 4.8L 8cylinder honda. The only difference from a V8 would be that each bank has its own crank. But like i said before, if they have a solid geared link from a custom made front housing, it would DOMINATE. I would choose this route because the blocks are relatively cheap and therefore a backyard engineer can afford screw-ups.
You guys ALL deserve everything you get. Brent seems to be the "Papa" of the group, but is still "IN" the group. Positive feedback and support is the glue that holds a team together, and there is no shortage with you guys. Great things are in store for all of you.

That was insane how fast things were getting done every clip somebody finishing something. It turned out incredible! Very symmetrical and clean. The quality of work also way better than I thought it would be for a quick job. So many hand made quality parts..

In the beginning I knew it would do 10.xx very first rip. Now that the J Series has been built up and everything is so low and compact with a ton of attention to detail...Bully will touch the 9's first day out. If, IF that coverter is the right match.

@@bubbabrown6917 Older Subaru engines use the same style and they could sometimes cause issues. Would be a great fix for them as well. Wonder if similar could be done for the swing arm one piece tensioners.

You genuinely want US to feel like we are part of the family and give us all the important detailes, (normally trade secret type details), like Phongs new safety pin invention, or how to lash, or teaching us how to tune even though that may mean that someone does it themselves instead of paying you to do it as a customer.
