I randomly realized this week that Ron and Hermione are always separates from Harry when he faces Voldemort. Except for possibly a small glimpse in Godric’s Hollow in Hermione’s case and hearing (only Harry could see it) him kill Snape at the battle of Hogwarts, the first time Ron and Hermione ever see Voldemort is when he dies in the great hall. From their point of view it must be like: “so that’s him… aaand he’s dead”

The car is kinda like “The Velveteen Rabbit” and “Pinocchio”, love makes them real. Voldemort is one of the most charismatic and manipulative people ever, a lot like Hitler. He convinces pure blooded wizard who hate non pure bloods, to follow a half blood. Hitler convinces tall blonde people to help him rid the world of everyone else, while he was short and dark haired.
In Half Blood Prince the students return by floo powder as a one time emergency sort of thing, along with other mentions of the floo network, it seems fireplaces can help only be used for communication and not full body transportation, unless the protection is turned off. A proud listener from Sweden. This is more related to last chapter, but still fun fact.
In Swedish Voldemorts name is "Tom Gus Mervolo Dolder" and it's revealed as "Ego Sum Lord Voldermort" with the comment from Tom that "Ego Sum" is Latin and means "I am", in Swedish "Jag är".
For fun, I wrote the name down "Jag är Lord Voldemort" and tried to keep Tom Dolder (can't use Riddle since there is no "i" in the sentence) and see what other middle names he could have. He could have Olgar or Largo and Järv (the animal wolverine) - in Sweden, having an animal as a name isn't to uncommon.
So Tom's Swedish name could be "Tom Olgar Järv Dolder" 😂

I think the reason chocolate is good after encountering a dementor isn’t just that is nice and fun, it’s to do with the fact it literally contains the chemicals phenylethylamine and serotonin, which are thought to be mood boosters. Eating chocolate makes you feel good, even euphoric. So any other sweets may not be as effective.

31:40 what if the car was just a car, but when they crash in the willow and Ron's wand breaks, some of the wand's core magic leaks into the car, giving it life? It would explain why it tries to protect Ron as the wand was Charlie's old wand. And it had a unicorn hair core, which is said to be very loyal to the first owner. So maybe the car inherited some of Charlie's spirit. Given this, it also makes sense why the car was at home in the forest, with the other magical beasts, because presumably that's what Charlie did as well.

However, the car's sentience is hinted at earlier, when Ron is kinda talking to the car - "Not too far now..." and the car groaning, shaking etc.
And if it becomes sentient AFTER the Whomping willow, the first thing it does is angrily ejecting Harry and Ron out of it, which is not a good behavior for a newly sentient machine lol

@@ambiverter @ambiverter For the first point, yes that's true, though maybe Arthur Weasley used another wand belonging to his late family to imbue the car with.
For the second point, imagine you are reincarnated or an inanimate object and suddenly gained sentience, then realise you are a car. First there is just the floating through the air and then you are violently attacked by a tree. I think anyone would freak out and get rid of the ones who got you in that position.

As for the sock I think you have to keep 2 things in mind. The first is that it is most likely one of either Dudley's or Vernon's old socks, but also that it might not be one of these tight fitting elastic socks, but could be a looser knitted type of sock. We know both Hermione and Dobby knits socks, and knitted socks are different from store bought elastic socks. Also once Harry mistakes his hat for his sock, either before some important Quidditch game or some time in Goblet (can't remember exactly), and even if you are distracted and can't think straight, it's a rather large mistake unless you usually have rather large socks, or very tiny hats.

When she finds out Harry shouted at Umbridge and called her a liar, she scolds him and warns him that they have to be careful because of where Umbridge comes from. But before she does, she says, ‘Have a biscuit,’ and offers the tin. Basically saying, ‘Way to go, Harry! You tell her!’ I wish we could have seen her reaction to finding out Lockhart’s Memory charm backfired when he used Ron’s broken wand. The whole staff may have thrown him a parade even though when we see him later in St. Mungo’s, he’s still signing autographs and he writes an autobiography, Who Am I? so it is possible he may know he is famous for something, he just doesn’t know why

Earlier this week I had the thought that Ron seeing Tom's award in the trophy room might have been part of Dumbledore's Big Plan. Obviously Dumbledore knew that it was actually Tom who opened the chamber back in 1942, and he'd absolutely have the power to remove that award (at least remove it from display, if not revoke it entirely). But then he might've had it put back out in the hopes that Ron might be able to see it and remember it for the golden trio's investigation.
And then I remembered that Harry and Ron's detentions are the first time Harry hears the basilisk in the walls, before the first attack, so Dumbledore couldn't have known about the chamber being reopened so it was a theory thread that went absolutely nowhere. Oh well.

Possibly, but electricity just doesn't work really well near magic, so Weasleys being fully magical, and Fred and George being as explosive with their magic as they usually are, the Anglia should have been protected somewhat from such magical interference.

The simplest explanation is that the car already had a bit of sentience, and was just angry with Ron for driving the whole day and finally crashing into the most violent tree in the world. So it abandoned them and ran away.
Maybe it then grew wild, as all things do in the wild.
What is funny to me is that neither Ron nor Arthur later try to retrieve it back. And what would happen if they try? I like to think it would've returned if they had asked for forgiveness, and made some promises to take more care of the car or smth lol

An eagle may have done the exact same thing, if it'd had the courage to attack a Basilisk. But then... the diary. Even Dumbledore wouldn't really know how important the diary was, so what gives? Well, you know how animals seem to sense disaster? Fleeing from volcanic eruptions or earthquakes before they even hit? I think phoenixes can develop a magic(ally)(,) enhanced version of this. Fawkes didn't understand what the diary was, but he did know it was bad and should be destroyed. Instinct.

Somehow, however, it isn't until after Lupin exits the tree that he transforms. To my mind, this begs the question: in this universe, what is it that actually triggers the transformation if not the actual moon rise? I think that there is something that you are missing when it comes to expulsion-fear:
    1. Yes, Harry is clearly concerned about having to go back to the Dursleys. No disagreement.
    2. Yes, to a KID reading the books, "expelled" sounds like really bad, and that fear works for young readers, BUT...
    3. Apparently, a witch or wizard getting expelled from Hogwarts suffers more than just embarrassment: their wand gets snapped. As with Hagrid:
    > He cast a sideways look at Harry under his bushy eyebrows.
    > “Be grateful if yeh didn’t mention that ter anyone at Hogwarts,” he said. “I’m - er - not supposed ter do magic, strictly speakin’. I was allowed ter do a bit ter follow yeh an’ get yer letters to yeh an’ stuff - one o’ the reasons I was so keen ter take on the job -”
    >“Why aren’t you supposed to do magic?” asked Harry.
    > “Oh, well - I was at Hogwarts meself but I - er - got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth. In me third year. They snapped me wand in half an’ everything. But Dumbledore let me stay on as gamekeeper. Great man, Dumbledore.”
    > “Why were you expelled?”
    >“It’s gettin’ late and we’ve got lots ter do tomorrow,” said Hagrid loudly.
I think that the students -- especially the younger ones -- are aware of the fact that getting expelled means that their legal use of magic will be restricted for the rest of their lives.

Fred and George leave and just go open a joke shop.
You can do magic with even just as stick or yourself (once you've learned) so I could see the ministry being like no wands but ... whatever magic you can do on your own is your problem. (And Hagrid can't do wandless magic)
If you're American itd be like we're taking your license but ... hey you can drive certain mopeds and four wheelers. (Just my opinion)
I think it COULD lead to
Obsurials but I think it's up to the person to suppress and hate their own Magic' opposed to just knowing you can't/ or won't. Like Harry doesn't use magic knowingly or with Dursley permission for 10 years but he isn't one. Because he didn't hate and suppress it. Even though he was told to hate magic.
Long version short; I believe this is a valid point that gets over looked a lot. However I think the wand snapping is for law breaking bc otherwise Fred and George would have theirs broken too. And all the kids that stayed home 7th year would be risking it too.
And I believe the wand breaking COULD lead to obscures, much like being fired from work COULD lead to a (real) depression (not just a sadness).

I posed myself many questions over the years, but one that popped into my head when listening to this chapter was: "Hermione captures Rita Skeeter as animagus-bug in an indestructible glass during GOF... What if Dumbledore did something similar to the weaker-than-the-meanest-mist form of voldemort (since he appears to know where he is at the moment)."

      Interesting!
I don't know if he could though.
He certainly doesn't try that as far as we know, but finding a mist vapour in the forests seems a boring job. Also, I don't know if you can contain souls without using dark magic like horcruxes, so I don't think you can stop him from escaping unlike a Physical Bug in a jar.
Not to mention Voldemort is far far more cunning and smart than Reeta Skeeter. Reeta also didn't know that somebody aka Hermione knew she was animagus. But I think Voldemort will be actively on guard against Dumbledore

Ok, so the car and broomstick thing- ive always gotten the feeling that magic itself brings things to life, and its the concentration that makes the difference. A lot of things that are heavily enchanted seem to come to life. Look at the castle, it might not get up and walk away, but its got the staircases, the knights, peeves, etc.
As for the footrests on broomsticks, theres a very good reason for them. In safety harnesses, theyve started to install foot-rest straps into them because the longer you hang just supported by your groin and not your feet, the more blood rushes to your legs, and it can become fatal. Footrests on brooms would basically serve the same purpose of keeping you supported while preventing the blood pooling effects.

I don't know if this is known, but just looking at the pictures, it seems like the prop Neville is using in Deathly Hallows part 2 is a bigger Sword or Gryffindor than Harry uses in Chamber or Secrets (they look relatively about the same size, but I assume Neville is significantly larger than Harry was in Chamber of Secrets). But it's difficult to assertain. Although when Neville uses it looks likes a reasonable sized sword. In fantasy swords are often way too big, particularly considering this sword would have been made during the early middle ages, when 2 handed swords just weren't a thing. It is surprisingly narrow for a blade of that period though, but maybe the goblin steel is so strong and sharp it doesn't need the weight.

What if Hermione was the only one calling Harry over summer (maybe because the Weasleys weren't able to use a telephone after all), and Dudley found out about Harry being talking to a girl? At this age he might have tried to tease him about it. Might have had the effect like in the "What if Harry was in Slytherin" series where Malfoy asks him about their relationship, planting the thought in his mind.

Now that I’ve finished college for the year, I’ve been bingeing the podcast, and it’s been fun hearing them come up with theories or ideas for videos that I know they then make a video about on SCB lol. Example in this episode: the single most important line in the series.

Dumbledore says, "You happen to have many qualities that Salazar Slytherin prized in his hand-picked students. His own rare gift, parseltounge - resourcefulness - determination - a certain disregard for rules," Does this mean that salazar slytherin didn't really care about rules? I think this fits in so well with the view of Slytherin that you guys have created for the Hogwarts founders series!

      You are right!
When Harry asks Percy on the very first day "Who is sitting beside Quirrell?" (It was Snape) Percy exclaims "Oh you've met Quirrell already?!" Meaning Percy knows Quirrell!
Even Hagrid knows him well when they meet at the Leaky Cauldron.
And I can't think of any other subject Quirrell might've taught before that.
Here is a thought. Voldemort was inactive for 10 years after his defeat at Harry's house, right? And we know from Hagrid that many people cane out of trances (aka Imperius curse) as his power broke. So is it possible that the jinx on the DADA position also broke at that time?
And when Voldy returned to the castle with Quirrell, he might've reactivated the jinx (maybe unintentionally)

And the next time Dobby actually saves harry’s life from the Malfoy manor, Dobby dies 😰 All the other times in between book 2 and 7 where Dobby helped his life, it was just little helps, not related to Harry’s life. Like following Draco for information , giving him the gillyweed to complete or finding the room of requirement to train. am I the only thinking this makes the death of Dobby even more sad?

One thing that I just thought when reading Prisoner to my kids. At the end with timerturner stuff, Harry and Hermione are hiding in the closet very close to earlier trio, so why on earth does Lupin not see extra Harry and Hermione on Marauders map? I think no video ever by anybody has addressed that issue! Please Supercarlinbrothers take this up!

    • @ambiverter

Is it possible that Lupin, being a teacher, knew about Hermione's time turner?
Or he might've known that there was lot of strange things going on that night, and simply didn't have time to think about "potential malfunction" of the map, or whatever.
Or he may figured it out by seeing the doubles, that one of them must have a time turner.

Question: Do you think the part of Voldemort inside Harry boosts Harry's skill a bit? We know he gained the ability to talk to snakes because of it, could it also be the reason for Harry's prowess in DADA?
