So I tried this today. One word. AWESOME!!!! Profound affect on my high headed, short necked draft cross. Suddenly he stretched his neck, and he gradually came round. I worked less and had better results. Thank you thank you!!!!!!!
Honestly Josie I have watched so many different trainers online and in person. You blow me away! You are so talented. Your lessons are easy to follow and practice at home on our own horses. The respect you show your horses is overwhelming heart warming. Soooo happy to have found you.😊
Hello. I did this exercise this afternoon with my mare and it really helped enormously. By the end of the ten minutes she was soft and compliant. I even did a little sitting trot for the first time. Many thanks.
wow this is amazing to begin with horse was relaxed happy to walk and trot with very slow transitions but after a few repeats he elongates his stride on walk and soon as a trot is asked goes straight into a more lively but controlled trot underneath
I love watching your sessions..although I haven't had a horse since I had to put mine down 2015 when she went into liver failure twice (she was with me many years and her loss took everything out of me) I would like to try again next year..I am 69 ..never had lessons as a young kid , just kind of taught myself by reading everything I could find.. My question to you is how do I find a decent instructor??..I don't hang around horse people as I am still working and just recently do not also have to babysit grandchildren which I have done since 2000..I don't want anything more than to be well balanced which I feel is what a horse would appreciate most..thank you
love what you said about the use of phones and attention Josie - could not agree more. I'll be trying your walk-trot-walk transitions asap - and for a whole 10-minutes!! Thanks for the tips!!!
Thank you so much for this! I have doing this to school the horses in a therapeutic riding program I volunteer with. It’s just enough to keep them listening and thinking, while helping them loosen and lighten up! Thank you so I much!!!
You rock Josie! I am definitely doing this on my next ride. 😁 Your instruction has helped me tremendously as a new rider working with a sensitive horse. I want to thank you for that.🙂💜
Thank you. Tried this a couple of times with my mare who can be very sluggish! Great results, much more forward and starting to seek a contact which ive been struggling with for months! 👍
This is just to tell you that this exercice is one of my favorits. Sometimes I do more trot steps at the end... it is such an amazing feeling. Love it. I do also add your tips for better hands... Thank you.
Thank you for this one Josie. I will try this tomorrow ! I like what you said about not riding with your phone unless you need it for something like this. And I will definitely keep it on silent because my horse does deserve my complete attention. ☺️
have started using this exercise everytime I ride now and it has improved my confidence and connection with the horse. Thank you Josie you are my horse guru
@@BasicHorseTraining Josie, we've been working on this lately and it's worked so well. And on the upside, because I count aloud while I ride, my horse can now count too, and she transitions automatically on my count. Thank you
I love your channel, thank you so much 😊 I've been doing this with my Arab already and was wondering why he started feeling so good lol but my green pony (under saddle 7 weeks) we are still only at walk stages about to start trot and this will be perfect, I have gone very slow with this pony because relaxation first is my top priority.❤
Love this concept & will try it for sure! Thankyou Josie for all your very clear instructional videos where rationale & outcome are always beautifully linked. 🐎👏🏼🙏
That was great, thank you!! As much as anything it showed me how to actually count the strides walking and trotting. I am new to this site and thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you very much.
Tried this exercise today & 10 minutes went faster than I thought. Ended with lovely transitions & my horse feeling very responsive. Our contact was a bit up and down
Hi Josie. My TB needs to strengthen his hind legs. What pole excercises would u suggest ? He does have a slight injury in his right hind knee, so he battles to lift up his back legs
Planning on doing this during my next ride. I have a young horse and this seems perfect! Would you do this method when working with trot to canter transitions?
I have been doing this each morning and evening. First day, the trot was a rocket launch by the third time my mare lifted quietly into the trot. The down transitions are so soft. Question? If the horse breaks gait from the walk into the trot (prior to the 10 steps) Do I start the walk count over?
Joise, nice video I have a very forward horse , hopefully this will help slow him down. Good luck with your expecting horse, hope everything goes well, I really love the videos you put out and the connection with you take care.
Thank you Ron I hope it helps. Make sure you concentrate on a slow trot. If he doesn’t want to go slow turn him on a small circle line and let him go straight as he slows down circle if he speeds up and repeat. 😊
I half halt before every transition and after every transition it’s just the “amount” of half halt that varies. The HH is my whisper to my horse “ are you ready?”
Anne you need to do a down transition before he gets to fast. So the second you feel he will start to get quicker in the rhythm down transition to walk. That should help with rushing.
Anne you may have to do only one step of trot before you walk. Really pay attention to his tempo and the second you feel it speed up do the walk transition. Then when you have done that enough times he should start to anticipate the down transition - when you feel that you can try "almost" going to walk but then say ... no I changed my mind lets keep trotting but slower x
This is such a simple exercise but don't let that fool you. It can have a fabulous effect on your horse. Be sure and try it. 🙂
Thank you for the tips! What boots do you have on his front?
@@jenniferwarren5600 Sorry I missed your comment. He has these on

I did this today and she went brilliantly 👏🏼give me more stuff like this please, maybe with canter too?! X

I’m so glad it helped. Thank you for letting me know. It really makes it worthwhile doing these videos when I get feedback ☺️
Ive been watching your videos for a few months, having bought a young french tb. We have done this exercise twice. Its absolutely great 😍

Thank you

I hope it helped Rhonda 🙂

This can also be done on the lunge line. I'll Try it.
I haven't tried it on the lunge so let me know how it goes 🙂
Josie, hey you may need a saddle sack they are great! I think they have them for a variety of saddles. Thank you for your videos.

Great job!
I've been itching to try this for the past few days since I first watched it. Problem is the annoying monsoon sitting overtop of my area!
I hope you got to try it 😊

can you do a video on how to turn your horse on the forehand?

Need advice on getting my green ottb to do a lazy trot. He speeds up and gets hollow. Should I just stop him and try again, or let him go?
Anne you need to do a down transition before he gets to fast. So the second you feel he will start to get quicker in the rhythm down transition to walk. That should help with rushing.
