I think Dantina soppu, chakota soppu n little qty of sapsige soppu would be good combination for this saru. Using tamarind paste ( juice) will enhance the taste. It is better to cook dal separately n slightly smash it( little coarse) Onion , green chillies with all the three soppu cooked in a vessel ( avoid cooker to ensure over cooking of greens) & churn it later. Add coriander powder n little quantity of jeera powder Mix cooked dal n soppu add tamarind paste n boil for few minutes. ( if needed add grated coconut, this should be very small dimension size). Then add mustard, garlic( generous qty, should turn brown in tadaka oil) n curry leaves tadaka n close the lid leave few minutes. I don't understand why Bangaluruean so prefer tomato over tamarind paste. Some saru requires tamarind to enhance taste.
