    Thanks for great info Kim. Your garden is beautiful and neat. I love peppers too. One thing I don't approve is the use of styrofoam products in planting or anything only because it doesn't compost and harsh to the environment. Continue to do more videos , your channel is one of the places I go for advices and info in gardening. Stay pretty !

    Hi Kim. I'm in 5B suburban Chicago. I've been bringing in potted Bell Peppers in the winter for 3 years now. I cut back the plant to about 12" tall and keep it watered and stored in a lit basement. I have 1-3 large peppers grown indoors on 2 potted plants. Mid May I'll be able to move outside on the west facing deck. Fun to have fresh peppers during the cold weather!

    I actually had a tomato plant here in Phoenix I did this with and it grew back out and produced more tomatoes the second time around! Amazing. Will be doing this with the peppers this year to see how it goes, our weather is similar but some years we get very little freeze so we grow different varieties of vegetables year round.

    IDK about "over Wintering" but I dig up my pepper plants about a couple weeks before the first fall frost & put them in their own 12" pot with a tiny bit of fertilizer, bring them inside & just put them near or in my South facing window & they KEEP PRODUCING PEPPERS ALL YEAR LONG!!! I kept 2-3 plants year round for 3.5years till I accidently let them get too cold one year!

    Thank you SO MUCH for this series- I just learned 3 things I was wondering about- the grow light thing was a huge problem for me- lots of leggy plants for my first try. Second try currently under works. Last year I planted my peppers too close to my tomatoes and they were completely in shadow- I had not idea that was the right thing to do. I may try it again this year.

    I do like the longer ones I do love the info and right now I'm figuring out my lights I'm through the starting stage I'm a indoor grower looking at grow lights and I'm seeing if it says grow light the price goes up found led flood /security lights 6000k with 16000lumes there 28 bucks a peace I got 3 all said it was 90 bucks for any said grow light 300 or more if these work better or as good I'll never buy a overpriced grow light. Thanks for the info on the plants.

    My pepper plants that I had in the past are always stunted. Ive grown them outside from the beginning because I live in the tropics and thought it was ok because it never goes under 60 Fahrenheit and when I tried to grow them inside my cats ate them haha. Huricane season killed the few peppers I had but I didn't cry about it because they were not good producers and I replaced them with pineapple plants. You are motivating me to want to get more pots and dirt and try again.

    • @bigpapi3636
      @bigpapi3636 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      elines acevedo I had the same issues with both sweet and spicy peppers. Stunted and poor yields. Out of frustration I tried Alaska Morbloom (0-10-10) fertilizer and it's made a world of difference. Be careful to wash it off the plants though because it will burn. I've also heard silver reflective mulch works really well but I don't have any experience with it.

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry that you are having trouble with your peppers. I've not had a ton of success starting them outside, indoors has worked well for me - it's a controlled environment and gets them going fast. Do you start the seeds with bottom heat, like I showed in the video? This makes a world of difference and gets them off to a great start! I'd recommend starting them in a grow light box indoors (look for this part of the video in the digital table of contents) with the heat mat underneath your seed tray. This gives them the light they need and will also keep them away from the cats. Definitely try again, and let me know how it goes!

    • @jelatinosa
      @jelatinosa 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the growbox is definitely something I want to try to protect them from my plant munching cats. Cats are curious and love boxes but luckily they haven't evolved the thumbs to open them yet so hopefully it would work haha.

    I would LOVE to purchase...a " To do Calendar" - that has everything. In January (this is what I plant and specifics) ...in Feb....etc....in june- list of to dos (like the summer pepper boost would be in mid summer) - even if it was 10 pages per month.. it would be the most helpful document EVER and I can't find one anywhere.

    One of your earlier videos piqued my interest in the California Wonder sweet pepper. I have several almost ready. I have many new varieties I am trying this year, one interesting one being Rezha Macedonian. It has an unusual corked skin and is in the same heat range as a Jalapeño. I may be pushing my peppers because I have a few already planted in zone 8a. I will be ok because I grew three batches of plants sown a few weeks apart because spring caught me early last year. I could have planted a month earlier than my usual time around Easter. I love the longer format videos. I rewatch my favorites often. Television these days is devoid of interesting programs. Thanks to you, Gary Pilarchik, and Patrick Dolan, I have an almost limitless supply of entertaining and informative videos to watch. Many thanks.

      Hi Joe - love hearing about the different varieties you are growing - the CA wonder is amazing - you'll love it! I also grew the Rezha Macedonian last summer - loved the unusual look. I don't think I had it in the right spot - it wasn't super productive, but since you had such great results, I'll definitely try again! So glad you are enjoying the gardening content, Gary and Patrick both have amazing videos. Much more to come this spring and summer. Thanks for watching!

    For Germination, Try using Warm Water for first watering in the bottom of your big tray. Seep the Warm water from underneath in the pan that you put your tray into. Poor warm water in the tray that you will put your newly planted Seed Tray into, Ounce warm water is in and you lay your Seed tray on top of the warm water. Let the warm water soak in through the bottom until very moist and just let it grow from there. The warm water will Germinate the seeds without putting electrical heating pad, near any water. could be scary water is an excellent conductor. Means if water is touching the pad and the puddle of water could be big enough to arch you to the plug. I would hate anything to happen to you. Your so good at growing.

      I see why your trying to keep it as dry as possible. with Heating Pad. Instead of A tray of Warm Water, Because you are Growing in your Dinning Room. But you still need to water. So a tray of Warm Water is more Practical for Germinating. Cost of a Heating Pad compared to just Warm Water.

    Greato Kim! I love to blend peppers with vinegar and salt and a little water until a smooth sauce, excellent as chilli substitute, after your amazing work out, I will try to copy and I'll get a bumper crop to make my sauce entirely from my garden 😉

    I overwintered about 20 pepper plants in San Diego. They started grow well at spring, about 2’ tall and blooming heavily.
    Than - one morning - ALL THE LEAVES AND BLOOMS ON ALL PEPPERS WERE EATEN.
    I have no idea what got them.
    They grew back ( under the tulle fabric), but production was very much delayed.

    You could use white mosquito netting/tulle, to put over the p,ant to keep the bugs, caterpillars, aphids, birds, squirrels, etc.out. My favorites are the Italian frying peppers. (Cubanelle)

    Hi there,
    Do you have any suggestions on companion planting? Apparently Portulacas and Marigolds attract bees for pollination and also deter aphids and whitefly. Your thoughts?

    Definitely going to make some pepper jelly. Never had it before but boy does it look good. Like you, peppers are my all time favorite vegetable. I put them in almost everything I cook. In fact now that I think about it, they do go in everything I cook, lol. Time to make a western omelette now with some of my fresh peppers I haven't frozen yet. My daughter makes fun of me because 90% of my freezer is all peppers. I guess this must make me a pepperhollic. Mmm love them. After watching this entire video I just wanna eat peppers right now. I love munching on raw bell pepper strips. All organic, all the time. Enjoy your day, and thank you for making this video. 🌶🫑
    🌶 Not a fan of the styrofoam and plastic cups though 🌶
