Lived in Alaska for three years, rain is just part of Alaska. When it’s not raining get out and enjoy. We just learned to put on the rain gear and live life. Loved Alaska
@@kenpatton8761 I worked in Irian Jaya, Indonesia some in 1994 and you knew it was noon because it always started pouring down until late at night. We stayed in the mountains at 6,800 feet in elevation and the jungle humidity would rise up every morning. Umbrellas were a must.
Detergent Sheets ! I don't know if you guys read many comments but the laundry sheets are great. So much lighter and take up so much less space. I'm in love with them.
I've lived in Alaska since 1965. Grew up on Kodiak and moved to Fairbanks for college, got married and have lived in this area ever since. So much to do in the Fairbanks/North Pole area. Might I suggest a change in your laundry detergent (size, weight, convenience, etc.) To detergent sheets. They weigh nothing. A load takes half to full sheet, depending on size of the load. A box is about 6x4x1, so takes no space.
My daughters and I worked in Alaska for a couple months in the very hot summer of 2011 I think. The smoke from wildfires was suffocating and the permafrost was melting creating flooding in any low lying area and yet it was the most amazing 2 months of my life and that is saying a lot! My only grandson is named Wrangell St Elias after the largest national park in all of the Americas after we worked in the shadows of those great mountains in Alaska. We kayaked in glacier pools near Valdez which was a wondrous experience and bought a huge amount of seafood and had a spectacular cookout at a park on the beach with locals there that is still legendary! We drove the whole Alaska freeway system, saw countless moose, deer, bighorn sheep and so much other wildlife. We were blessed to see Denali in a rare moment at sunset and was absolutely blown away by the scenery around each corner 🫶 Open your heart and appreciate every second because few ever get to experience what you are blessed with 💖
The key to a great time in Alaska is being able to pivot to various areas of the state where it isn't raining. Rain forecasted in Homer? Go to Denali. Rain forecasted in Palmer? Go to Valdez. This is what we did. Only dealt with rain two days, in our 70 day trip.
We were there during the same time you were. I get you on the rain!! We were visiting our kids. After six weeks, I finally told my husband “It’s time to head home!! I’m done with the rain!! So we headed for home to New Mexico!!
I bought a This is My Campfire Shirt for me and my wife. She likes you both a lot. We don't start our adventure for 3 years, but we have been learning for a while now. We can't wait and she says maybe meet you both if your still at it. We will be 66 & 67.
The thing about AK is coastal areas do have a lot of rain. Look what the locals wear. I still have the rain gear and waxed hats from when I lived there. Also if you notice, there is no lightning or thunder there. In the 3 years we lived there, there was only 3 time we heard thunder. When we moved south to the desert, we had green mold/fungus in the door jams of our van. If you're out in the rain, it is safe. Have you seen the people sail surfing yet? When we had 2 weeks of no rain, they were calling it a drought. Have fun, the Halibut is great. We love it blackened.
The Tango volcano in the south pacific blew up under water a year or so ago and it added millions of tons of water to the atmosphere so it will be rainy and warmer for a while. The moisture in the air causes warmer temps in arid places and more rain in wet.
Wet or dry Alaska is still beautiful. I'm glad yall are having a good time. On the batteries and electrical when you have questions you should ask Chad he does alot of that in his videos. Yall stay safe
My daughter went to Alaska with her Canadian Girl Guides of Canada Pathfinder unit. She had a great time but the girls lived in their rain gear when they were out and about. When the clouds cleared she got some amazing pictures with her camera. Rain or not, she had an amazing time.
I do a lot of mobile electrical work--you guys are on a good path, but there is definitely plenty of room for improvement. I like to use DIN rail terminal blocks in my projects, and I will fully admit that getting all the part numbers and such can be a giant pain, but once you get it right, then it's *chef's kiss* I'd be happy to give you guys some pointers, and really most of it would be just sending you links to other youtube videos. Might need to do it over email or something because a bunch of youtube comments would probably be too clunky. Cheers! It's one of my dreams to do a long road-trip to Alaska, and seeing you folks do it helps to scratch that itch a little!
We just got back Alaska/Canada trip for the last 4 months…Alaska is having a colder summer this year, so is Canada. We had a great time, fishing, hiking and just taking it all in. The wildlife was amazing…moose, grizzly, caribou…now in Washington and excited to be in this beautiful amazing state. Have fun…love to Dexter.😻
Sorry to see all the rain, but enjoying your Alaska trip - as always, thanks for sharing this! Weird side note: Have you considered laundry sheets, like EarthWise? A month+ of laundry detergent that fits in a ziplock bag. Could save you guys a bit of storage and carrying around a large heavy plastic bottle.
When we did Alaska, the last two weeks of August 2016, we had absolutely fantastic weather. We had only a couple of days of rainy cool weather. We just lit a campfire and hung out in our rain jackets. The weather I have seen you two travel in, in Alaska, reminded me so much of our lives in New Hampshire. If you lived in it, you could deal with it… I know you can. Safe travels and enjoy your adventures!! 🥰
Continuous rain can be a bit depressing, but make the best of your adventure! I enjoy watching you two. Thanks for sharing the good and sometimes the not so good!!! Live your best life!
Lived in Alaska my whole life. August always rainy. September is usually an awesome Indian Summer. So you came a month to late but you should be able to catch some northern lights
We really enjoy your videos! We just got back from our 6 week trip to Alaska with our 5th wheel! We had a blast!!! We were on the other side of the Kenai peninsula in Seward when the earthquake hit and Seward was under a tsunami warning, maybe about the time y"all were on the west side. Fortunately everything was fine. Just a suggestion for something to do, one of our highlights of the trip was a float plane ride over to Twin Lakes to visit Dick Proenneke's handmade cabin. It was awesome!!! We came up on the east side of the Rockies on our way to Alaska and took the Stewart/Cassier highway back south and then highway 99 through Vancouver BC. It was a very lovely trip on Highway 99, just a little tight with steep grades. We met up with our daughter and her boyfriend in Anchorage as they were in town for a Mammalogist conference and when it was over they joined us for the trip up to Denali and Fairbanks. We had such a great time the whole trip :) We are looking forward to seeing how your trip progresses, we hope you have as much fun as we did :)
I’m disabled, so I find it much easier to measure/pour the laundry detergent in Ziploc bags for each load. Then I put those in a larger Ziploc bag along with my bounce sheets. I also have a big dry towel that I put in the dryer with each load and it dries faster with less wrinkles. *Yes, I reuse the ziplock freezer bags since they’re durable. Everything‘s measured out as well as watered down a little. Believe me, doing that adds up fast and you will see you’re clothes, do not get as dirty. I had a friend that worked in the detergent business and he said shampoo and laundry detergent uses the same detergent and usually they recommend too much. He told me to water it down and not only will it, save me money, but it will save my washing machine from getting all caked up. Plus the detergent rinses out completely, and your clothes will not get as dirty as quickly. He told me the detergent that is left on clothes is like a dirt magnet. He wasn’t kidding. Because I’m disabled, I can’t carry as much weight and I am saving money, saving time and because I have to live in Disability it really helps my budget. Really enjoying your videos! Looking forward to more! 🙏🏻💖👍
Thanks for sharing the reality of RVing. It’s an excellent perspective into your everyday adventures. It’s not all rainbows and unicorns. Stay safe, stay well.
We live in Wasilla but just took our RV on a 2-week journey around Alaska. As the peninsula (Seward, Kenai, Homer, etc) are familiar to us, we decided north to Fairbanks then travel back down the other highway. So many detours were taken including a visit to the Arctic Circle and a popover to the Canadian Border. True, the weather suckkkkked! I said it. I live here. I know the weather but from August 16-29, we had two (I REPEAT, TWO!) days of sun. Alas, our beautiful state can shine even on the gray days. Glad you visited! You and other full-time RVers on TH-cam have been a fun and informative resource for us so THANK YOU!!
Alaska is definitely a place where you get better scenery boondocking than staying in RV parks. Pull off anywhere. Alaska has many gorgeous places, but Hatcher Pass is my favorite place for hiking and seeing a little of the gold mining history. Go to the Settler's Bay area and go mushing on one of the Reddington dog sleds and check out the Knik Museum. Go on a river boat ride in Talkeetna.
Nicely done video! Very good editing and very smooth transitions (great team work as well). Not only is your videos informative and entertaining, they are absolutely beautiful! Can't wait for the next vid! Be safe y'all! (still 105 to 108 each day here in east Texas!!!! Please send cooler temps and rain down our way!!!!! 🙂)
We spent nearly 3 months traveling Alaska last year, not one campsite was that much money. Free boon docking is all around you. Look into municipal campgrounds. They don't offer alot but usually they are fairly cheap.
Will never be RVing but certainly enjoying your adventures. Really appreciate your openness and all you show. Watching you doing laundry and thought I would mention that there is laundry soap in small sheets that would save you space, weight, garbage, etc. Tru earth Laundry Strips are the ones we use. Good luck and dry weather for your travels.
We ran into rain on 3 July in Palmer and spent whole Kenai Peninsula and to Valdez in the rain, over 3 weeks. Finally cleared up. Got alot of "should have been here yesterday" from the locals. Was still fun and saw alot. You guys keep filming and enjoying yourselves. Good luck.
I’ve been here over 40 years and this is probably the coolest and rainiest summer ever. I love both the sun and the rain and never let of stop us from doing things outside.
I posted a link for the Breezeo laundry strips. We have been using them for a year and love them. No more lugging around heavy jugs. Saves weight in your RV too!
Yep one of the problems with any place between the ocean and mountains is rain, and sometimes lot so of it. I guess it makes you appreciate the sunshine more. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Love watching your Alaska adventure! It’s helped us feel so much better having a visual plan and your recommendations helping us plan our trip! Love how authentic y’all are too! Blessings for continued safe travels 😁 Your friends from Georgetown, Texas!
Ok I noticed you were using those “bouncy” sheets and I wanted to suggest to you to start using dryer balls! You purchase about 4 which is about $7-10. That is probably cheaper than 2 boxes of bouncy sheets! Toss into dryer and they take care of static cling and I like they don’t leave residue from dryer sheets onto your clothes. They come in plastic or wool. I use a mix of both wool and plastic. So Carl this is a money saver! And you store in a zipper type bag for transport to and fro from the laundry mat! Now tip number 2 is do t throw that dryer lint away. Why you say? You make fire starters from the lent! You save your TP and paper towel rolls and you stuff a paper towel into one end of the paper tube to hold the lint in then after each dryer load stuff the lint in until it’s full. I stuff another paper towel in and store until time to start a fire! So still saving money by turning trash to treasure. Hope this helps! 😊
In 2018 we went to Alaska took them off on the road we loved it so many beautiful scenery sites and we Boondock we stayed in different parks we loved it we went to Homer Seward all of those places this video brings back so many memories for me thank you Hanks
I have been in Alaska quite a bit. Our daughter lives there with our son in law and grandsons. In all the times I have been there this summer was the first one in 16 years that the weather has been like this. It was in the 50’s and rainy every day that we were in Cordova, Anchorage, and Nome this July. You will have to go another year when the sun is out and there is a little more warmth.
I’m sitting here in Florida it’s 90degrees already and it’s only 10:00 am, so watching you all complaining about rain and cool weather is amusing. Next meetup please have it someplace in the middle of the country so I can make it. 😊😊
Well, I’ve been here 30 years, and this is AK, this has been the best August we have had in years, August is our rainy season before we go into winter, but the last few years, it seem the whole summer has been our rainy season. I would love to meet you guys, when is the meet up or has it already happened? Love the content.
Thank you for all of your videos. Y’all prepared us a lot for today. We are on our first official camping adventure. We did great thanks to all of y’all’s wisdom. Have fun in Alaska!
Hanks, you want a fuse for the positive side. A few years back , I installed 1200AH lithium setup with solar and inverter. Without solar recharging, I can go 5 days using my computer and not limiting usage much. Limiting the runtime is amazing.
Yeah we feel your pain. We didn’t want to go too early and deal with bugs. So we went mid July. Rained and rained and rained. Left mid Sept and the rain stopped but all the facilities were shutting down so no choice.
I definitely recommend a washer/dryer in your RV. We are full time RVersfor the past 1.5years, and 3/4 time for 4 years before that. When we first started RVing, I thought I would like the extra closet space, vs. the washer/dryer. In fact, in early 2019, 6:45 I ran a 220 outlet and plumbed our shed in the RV resort we stay at in Florida, so that we could have a washer/dryer in there. When we bought our 2018 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 36LA, later in 2019, it came with a stack Splendide. We won’t ever go back to not having one in the rig. We bought a 2023 Grand Design Solitude 373FB this year, and one of the must haves was a stack washer/dryer. No more hanging around at laundromats, waiting for wash to be done. Just put it I. When it’s convenient, then transfer it to the dryer when you’re ready. You can do it in the evening, when you’re editing content for the Vlog, and not have to block separate “laundry day” time. Some more advice. Never buy one of those all-in-one units that combine the washer and dryer into one unit. They take hours to do your laundry, and are wrinkle machines. They also don’t hold much. You’ll find that all the stack washer/dryers for RVs are small compared to what’s available for a house, or commercial washers. You’ll quickly adjust to doing loads more frequently vs letting laundry pile up. This has an added benefit of not having to do all that folding all at once. I hate taking a half hour to fold laundry from a week’s worth of laundry. Much less painful to take smaller bites.
You guys will always be my favourite peeps on the road and down to earth. Glad you got the Jack motor replaced and the batteries look great too. Till next time take care and help with the laundry more Carl, and be safe. 🤗🥰🤗🥰🤪
So there were a lot of great things in this video, but my favorite was when Dexter hopped up to “help” you make your bed. Reminds me of our sweet Boo Boo Kitty! 🐈⬛💕 He also loved jumping all around and hiding in the sheets when we’d make our bed. ❤
We have an off grid place we just use recreationally but I have lived there full time when working an out of town job. It’s also off the road with about an hour trail ride in the summer. I worked in electronics and dealt with batteries and inverters as part of my job. We have a 4 k 48v inverter at our cabin. We also have a 12v system for lights, Rv water pump and water heater. This way we can shut off the inverter if we don’t need AC but still have water and lights. In the summer we usually leave leave it on to run the freezer when we put salmon we catch near there in it, 37 sockeyes this year. We use it mainly in the summer and during moose hunting. We also have a small Haier washing machine for washing clothes out there and we hang them to dry. We are both 70.
Have you thought about getting a combo washer/dryer? That way you can do smaller loads more frequently and perhaps that would save you some hassles. I do a load every few days and just toss my dirty clothes directly into the washer when I take them off, thus negating the need for a laundry hamper. Yes, it rains in Alaska. And sometimes in places like Anchorage and Talkeetna, it is 87 degrees in June (or it was the last time I was there). It also rained for 24 hours here two days ago in Washington State, which is rare for August. We were lucky because while the rain washed away the smoke from the fires, watered all of our beautiful trees, and cooled down the temperature to a more moderate level, the folks down in Southern CA and Mexico were dealing with a summer storm: Hillary, that dumped a year's worth of rain in a few hours and flooded many communities. Be patient. I'm sure you'll get to see the mountains and some of the other scenery soon. I love your travels and adventures. Keep the faith.... this, too, shall pass.
@@HappilyEverHanks Look into this laundry soap to save you the "container hassles".... this is what I use and half a sheet is enough for the Splendide. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GF7YGCD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ha, tsunami warning…we got that in Homer…but we did not feel it…they are well prepared! Anchor Point = the boat launch and retract from the shore…they can’t build a pier…it’s too muddy! What a great time you are having…except for the rain…we managed around it…until we got up to Anchorage and Denali…then, long days of fog and rain…it’s hard on the soul! 😂 Great vlog again…you sure make it fun to watch! Remi
We spent 3 weeks on AK in 2010 from the inside passage, to the Kenai and up to Fairbanks and Arctic Circle. I don’t recall hardly any rain. Guess we lucked out.
Having lived up here in Alaska for forty years (😳), I’ve seen rainy Junes, and/or Julys and or Augusts therefore I now live in Mexico. Ya’ just can’t predict the weather up here! But it seems one sunny day makes the memory of rain just vaporize! We’re traveling in our 380FL and heading out mid September. Hoping that time erases the memory of the nightmare road conditions between the Tok cutoff and Burwash Landing! Hope your trip back was uneventful.
Never jack on the axle. You will bend it. Look this up. Read how to jack up RV. We are rewatching Your Alaska videos. Planning our trip. Awesome Videos.
I lived in the (PNW) pacific north west for a short time but the steel-grey days got me down. I finally bought me some yellow or amber sunglasses to put on those days- a major change in my mood. Sunshine is wonderful Hey, good that you stayed for a week to rest-. It’s a lot of driving . Break it up
Fun videos! I don't know about RVs but boats often have battery switches so that you can disconnect one or both batteries. Also fuses or breakers are a good idea. In the 90's on the Alaska highway I was behind a camper that had a bunch of smoke coming out the side from a battery fire. Fortunately a couple of us had extinguishers and helped put it out. In Juneau (Southeast Alaska) where I live it's been really dry this summer but I think the interior had more rain than normal.
Enjoying your adventures in Alaska. We experienced the same weather as you guys! We were on Homer Spit when the tsunami warning came. We grabbed our cash, computers, passports and headed to higher ground at the elementary school in Homer. No idea how much above sea level we were. Also, our group (Fantasy RV tours) spent 4 days in Denali and had great views of the mountain 3 of the 4 days.
Looking forward to the batteries/inverter video. Unless I missed it… We have a similar power situation. One deep cycle battery, boondock more often than not.
I hope your Jack motor replacement works. I had the same problems and errors your having. Dealer replaced our left front motor also. It seemed to help but the problems continued. They then replaced the main controller and a sensor. This helped out a lot but the problem sill pops up time to time. I found it helps greatly if you level the trailer, left to right, with Anderson levelers first, then tell it to level. When it levels on its own, I go buy a lottery ticket
Earthwise laundry sheets are the best! No more lugging around heavy liquid soap!

Agreed! The Hanks’ content is some of the best on TH-cam-informative AND entertaining.😊
Great video. Thank you.
Love the energy and the content! Keep it coming HANKS!
Recording your video under your slide to stay out of the rain is a new adventure. Thanks for involving your viewers in your new battery adventures.
Nice job it looks great
My favorite part was Dexter helping you put your clean sheets on the bed 😊❤
We spent nearly 3 months traveling Alaska last year, not one campsite was that much money. Free boon docking is all around you. Look into municipal campgrounds. They don't offer alot but usually they are fairly cheap.
It's cool watching the learning process. I learn as well.
Been living my dream trip through you all. Thanks for all the great tips. Keep it coming.
Thank you “Hanks” for keeping your channel a positive and welcoming platform.
I know that took A LOT of work and I want to thank you.
🙏🏻💕🙏🏻
A great video on you experience in Alaska.
Blessings for continued safe travels 😁
Your friends from Georgetown, Texas!
So nice of y’all to make up Dexter’s bed ☺️🛏️
You got this Alaska thing guys!❤
I really love your videos. Thnx for sharing. Stay safe! 🤍
Thank you so much!
Thank you this great video. 😁😘🫠🫠😁😘😘😄😆😄😘😆😁😘😆😉😜😆😉😆🤪😉😆🤪🤪😉😆🤪😉😆😉😆🤪😆🤪😉😜😆🫠😁😄😘😃😁😘😁😜🫠😁😜🫠😁😜🫠😜🫠😁😁😜🫠🫠😜😁hvvhycychvhvuv
Hanks, you want a fuse for the positive side. A few years back , I installed 1200AH lithium setup with solar and inverter. Without solar recharging, I can go 5 days using my computer and not limiting usage much. Limiting the runtime is amazing.
I hope you get to Denali. If you get to go into the park via bus you WILL see wildlife.
Yeah we feel your pain. We didn’t want to go too early and deal with bugs. So we went mid July. Rained and rained and rained. Left mid Sept and the rain stopped but all the facilities were shutting down so no choice.
Watching this in Alaska while the rain pours down outside... 😁
Same here! 😂
Thank you so much!
Happy to hear your gonna boondock! I'm fully setup for off grid and rarely go to RV parks. 400ah of lifepo4 and 800w of solar, full timers. :) enjoy!
So there were a lot of great things in this video, but my favorite was when Dexter hopped up to “help” you make your bed. Reminds me of our sweet Boo Boo Kitty! 🐈⬛💕 He also loved jumping all around and hiding in the sheets when we’d make our bed. ❤
I’d be doing off grid prep right away. We old timers on fixed incomes like free camping! Thanks for another fun video!
Makes you appreciate that drive through Canada doesn’t it?
Rain is good for your complexion and fending off forest fires.
You two are sooo good thanks. We are planning on that trip in a few years. We'll be their for 2-3 months🙂
After seeing you spend half an hour putting quarters into the washer, I'm glad we have Loonies and Toonies in Canada
We have our eye on a combo washer/dryer for sure!
@@HappilyEverHanks Look into this laundry soap to save you the "container hassles".... this is what I use and half a sheet is enough for the Splendide.

Oh yeah, it rained a lot last year too. Part of the fun lol
God bless you guys and praying for safe and fun fulled adventures
Ha, tsunami warning…we got that in Homer…but we did not feel it…they are well prepared! Anchor Point = the boat launch and retract from the shore…they can’t build a pier…it’s too muddy! What a great time you are having…except for the rain…we managed around it…until we got up to Anchorage and Denali…then, long days of fog and rain…it’s hard on the soul! 😂 Great vlog again…you sure make it fun to watch! Remi
Diamond M ranch is great. Jeremy was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our July '23 visit.
I think it's not that The Hanks like a challenge as much as it is the Hanks are a challenge. 😉
I know I feel ya on the laundromat. UGH I do it too. Hanks been working hard. ❤❤
have you tried "earth breeze" laundry sheets? it's cheaper than liquid detergent, comes in sheets like the dryer sheets, a lot lighter, less bulky.
12:35 she's like, awe Dexy😂
If I bought a RV I'd love to get a Living Vehicle, for it being a great 3 season off-grid RV. Stay safe and happy Hankes.
That’s one CHILL cat! 😂
Never jack on the axle. You will bend it. Look this up. Read how to jack up RV. We are rewatching Your Alaska videos. Planning our trip. Awesome Videos.
Great information! Thank you for your wonderful support in watching our videos 🙂 Stay safe - Kyle and Renee
We didn’t get to do Kinae and we were very sad. When we go back it’s a must! Especially for me, yes I’m the Fisherwoman lol 😂
I lived in the (PNW) pacific north west for a short time but the steel-grey days got me down. I finally bought me some yellow or amber sunglasses to put on those days- a major change in my mood. Sunshine is wonderful
Hey, good that you stayed for a week to rest-. It’s a lot of driving . Break it up
Thank you for a good video.
Alaska looks beautiful.
Thank you for sharing.
Safe travels.
I saw that bald eagle.
Watch your animals.
I was stationed in Kodiak, sorry I didn't tell you about the weather. I loved it there.
😮
Our highlights in Alaska were: Seward, Denali national park, Palmer (Fred Meyers), going down the Alaska Canada highway. Safe travels. John
Looking forward to the batteries/inverter video. Unless I missed it… We have a similar power situation. One deep cycle battery, boondock more often than not.
yes, please do a video about the *batteries* and the electrical system (and title it as such)
thanks for posting
Told yall to wait for me! This year was just a rainy year!
