Seen him wrestle many times at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles back around '63. Matches with or against the likes of Freddie Blassie, Mr. Moto, The Destroyer. I'm 71 now and have good memories of those days.
I was only 7 or 8 when he retired from the ring but I got to know him on screen as an Actor and boy, did he work! He really had a full 2nd career as a natural actor. Saw him in films, TV shows and commercials throughout my growing up years into adulthood.
@@keepitinthefamily I never had the pleasure of meeting the man but his personality shines through and you can see he is quite genuine. He did a lot in his life.
I was 11 years old in 1971. I first saw a h b Haggerty and his black Cadillac parked on 10th Street in Santa Monica California between Idaho and Montana Avenue he lived across the street from me
My Dad was good buddies with Don "Hard Boiled Haggerty" Stansauk from Highland Park. They went to school together and remained friends until Don's death in 2004. The story he told at his memorial was hilarious. You see, Don was a huge guy in high school, Franklin High, and one day at school everyone came up to my dad, also named Don and was talking about some fight he was supposed to be taking part in. My dad had no idea what it was all about. Well, apparently, Stansauk chose some guy off but because he was so big, he didn't feel it would be a fair fight so he enlisted my dad (without his knowledge) to do the fighting for him! It was so great to see some of the Old Time Wrestlers at HBs funeral and to see his daughter Donna. My father passed away the next year. These truly were great guys who were life long friends from the Greatest Generation.
Thanks for this awesome comment and story Diane. Hard Boiled was my fav. When we interviewed him, it was obvious how much he loved his daughter. I hope Donna has seen this video and enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed meeting her dad.
@Keep It In The Family Productions Tip Of The Hat to you guys. I see some of the great stole some his stuff, including Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard and Greg Valentine, with the draping the leg over the rope and squatting on it. Even at 47. I learned something new about Hagerty. Top Blessings in '23
I remember seeing him in an episode of Adam 12. He played a character in a wheelchair and had quite a compelling scene. Didn't know about his wrestling career until now.
I remember once during locker room interviews at the LA Olympic Auditorium back in the sixties, Haggerty refused to be interviewed until they took Victor the Wrestling Bear out of there. GET THAT BEAR OUT OF HERE, he shouted !
It's great to see videos like this, showing the public side of a wrestler, outside of the ring where he doesn't have to maintain his persona. Although he appeared in Honolulu numerous times I don't remember seeing him in person since I was too young but I do remember the name. Although it wasn't mentioned in the video I'm curious to know if his parents were alive when he broke into pro wrestling and what they thought about it.
It really scares me men of this era are dying out. They went through so many hardships and just took it, you don't hear them whining about going to war or being poor growing up. Now a days you have these effeminate, liberal, metro-sexual types. I'm 35 years old and I have so much respect from real men from this era. Need to bring this attitude back. I know im commenting on a wrestling vid but all these classic wrestlers such class acts and so humble.
"effeminate, liberal, metro-sexual types." Yeah, that's really the thing to worry about. People who don't act like you think they should act, even though it's not a reflection of character.
Well for the most part he was an upper-mid carder, he had his share of successes but his time in the Main Events were limited, and of course was a long time ago. He might show up eventually in the WWEs new Legacy section, but it's unlikely he'll ever get put in the primary section

That was really cool. Interesting character.

Hard Boiled, Gorgeous George, and later Blassie were amnongst the early leaders that got me interested in Pro wrestling. This man was a power house.
Sadly no mention at all of his portrayal of Sergeant Smith in the 1986 cult classic movie Rad.
Im going to have to find that movie. Thanks for watching
What a nice man. One of the most hated heels in Stampede Wrestling.
He teamed up with Mean Gene Kiniski in the Vancouver area.
They were a rough house.
Great content
thanks for watching
Great Story.
Thanks for watching
Hardboiled Haggerty should be in both the National Wrestling Alliance and WWE Hall of Fame
We agree...thanks for watching
wwe legacy hall of fame is where he belongs
Even at the age/time he did this interview, he seemed like he could still kick the crap outta someone.
I remember seeing him in an episode of Adam 12. He played a character in a wheelchair and had quite a compelling scene. Didn't know about his wrestling career until now.
Parkwaymania thanks for watching
I remember this guy in a episode of Mr Belvedere

Wow...3 years in the NFL & only made 5 grand a year?
Yep why many footballers tried wrestling more lucrative, now NFL pay has grown expeditiously. Wrestling not much

Hollywood Haggerty
Thanks for watching
Why the hell are these commercials in here? They ruin it!!!!!!!
Hardboiled was an accomplished actor...that's why.
It's a great change to see a wrestler grow old, wise, and content, and never screw anyone over...
