Jack Brisco is my favorite Native American wrestler because he didn't trade on Indian stereotypes nor the culture . There is nothing wrong with wearing something inspired by your ethnicity but I never really liked seeing war bonnets on everyone and all of them called chief . Chief is something to take seriously . Jack showed that we are American people ; not stereotypes .
Jack Brisco really disliked wrestlers using the Native gimmick who weren’t of the culture like the man who wrestled for many years under his real name Joe Frank Scarpa but didn’t hit his stride until he took on the gimmick of Chief Jay Strongbow. Scarpa was actually Italian
As a kid, I saw Jack and Jerry Brisco wrestle many times in person. Met Jack briefly after a title match against the Missouri Mauler, early seventies. Great men and proud Native Americans. Jack is my all time fave.
Billy I remember as a kid watching him, I was also proud that we had a Native as a role model. There was another wrestler that I was very proud of and was able to spend time with in his older years. A Native wrestler named Danny Little Bear.
To Jack and his wife... bless you both. I lived in Florida when Jack had his great rivalry with Dory Funk, Jr. Two great champions going at it. Rest In Peace, Jack.
Interesting (I don't know when this was made) that Jack is keeping in kayfabe. But make no mistake, Jack was a guy who could, should he want to, turn you inside out. He also had a great sense of humor...
As a kid I recall living in Florida and watching Eddie Grahams Championship Wrestling from Florida on the TV. Gordon Solie would narrate "filmed highlights" of Jack Briscos title matches or tag maches with he and his brother Jerry. Thanks for the video.
During the time he was the NWA champion I was going through my phase when I knew the WWWF was scripted but still thought the NWA was legitimate competition. The NWA matches were certainly more enjoyable to watch; they emphasized athleticism.
People still need to understand that WWWF was brawling as they always bringing in the monster heels for Bruno & Pedro. The WWWF guys were good athletes & great Workers/Athletes
Seen this Great Legend an Star in my hometown of Toronto twice once against.the Legendary.Rowdy Roddy Piper s against Rick Flair What a Treat What a Great Star
Have nothing but the upmost respect for Jack a great wrestler and he was nothing but a class act plus he was the first man to get to wear the new nwa world's title belt which is my favorite world title belt
10 wrestlers i would love to see Jack Brisco wrestle live 10. Harley Race 9. Ric Flair 8. Dory Funk Jr 7. Terry Funk 6. Giant Baba 5. Jumbo Tsurta 4. Ricky Steamboat 3. Verne Gagne 2. Lou Thesz 1. Billy Robinson
There were plenty of legit tough guys in the 70's. Bob Roop, Bruiser Brody, Harley Race, Wahoo McDaniel, Bruno Sammartino, Ernie Ladd, Don Jardine etc But Jack Brisco was possibly the toughest. Two time Big Eight Champion, NCAA D1 Champion and was never taken down in that season. He could of gone on to do greater things in amateur wrestling but chose the pro game.
Brody & the Spoiler (Don Jardine) were tuffer than Jack, in my opinion, during their prime....However what made Jack a "World Champion" was his conditioning and scientific knowhow in the ring. When I first saw Brisco in Fort Worth in the late 60's, I saw something unique in him. His match with the Spoiler in '79 was an afterthought.
I'm conflicted when the old timers don't break kayfabe. It's kinda cool they do but it's also weird in the sense that we know and HE knows that it was all a work yet he wont cop to it.
If men of Brisco's generation didn't take it seriously, we wouldn't still be watching it. I doubt the current WWE product will have a passionate following in 2059.
No , Mike Graham already knew him but didn't want him around . Jack was the one that took pity on Terry Bollea and got him out of Hiro Matsudas torture class .
Jack Brisco is clearly one of the best evr as a wrestling world champion. I don't quite understand why he seemed to kayfabe this interview. I've seen other interviews where he admits he wanted to drop the world belt because of the travel. He instictively knew where the light switch was in a Holiday Inn.
I saw him in Tampa multiple times. The professionalism and respect for the sport just poured out of the guy. He was a great worker and was a pure wrestler. He actually knew how to wrestle as well as could brawl when needed. That's what I enjoyed, actually seeing the wrestling holds he would put on his opponent. Just a great worker and humble man. These attributes made him a giant amongst giants.
None of his matches looked scripted. Seen him several times. He was a real warrior in the ring but also spoke very pleasantly. Him and dusty were my favs
For many years the title change wasn't recognized by the NWA. The matches were strictly for the Japanese fans. It has happened a few times in the titles history. I forget... maybe Carlos Colon in the Puerto Rico. Like "I'll do it, but you have to give it back before I go"
Actually Jack tried to keep the title switch a secret from Sam Munchnik. Jack made a fortune from the gig in Japan. Sam found out out about it, and demanded that Jack pay the 10% due to the NWA president (Sam). Jack refused. Which was very dangerous, but Sam let it go..
There’s actually no wrestling footage of Jack Brisco beating Harley race for the NWA title. The footage on this one is from Florida.Jack beat Harley in Houston, TX in 1973... Jack blamed Dory Funk Sr for the no footage...

Dr. Mike Lano, LOL wrestling historian is a loose term. He was just a demented fan with some very peculiar behavioral habits. There are a couple videos on TH-cam regarding some of his antics and are an interesting watch if you have the time. The guy was a whack job

Horrible wrestling! Non athletic moves, terrible selling!! They looked like they had no idea what was going on in the match. This is crap. Watch El Santo or Black Gordman, those are wrestlers!!!!!
I don't see how anyone can dislike a great video like this. Jack Brisco was a role model not only to we Native people, but Americans in general...
Jack Brisco vs Bob Backlund would have been a technical classic
Thanks for watching
Jack Brisco is my favorite Native American wrestler because he didn't trade on Indian stereotypes nor the culture . Jack Brisco winning the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE OF JACK BRISCO ACCOMPLISHMENTS .
He was awesome. Such a nice man to meet.
As a kid, I saw Jack and Jerry Brisco wrestle many times in person. Met Jack briefly after a title match against the Missouri Mauler, early seventies. Great men and proud Native Americans. Jack is my all time fave.

Very proud of this as a Native American and from Oklahoma.
Thanks for watching billy.
Keep it in the family productions .Channel Very welcome.
Hell yeah native pride more people should know the Brisco brothers are Native Americans we need all the role models we can get

Rick Woelfel just like NJPW
yup
RIP champ, one of my favorites
People still need to understand that WWWF was brawling as they always bringing in the monster heels for Bruno & Pedro. The WWWF guys were good athletes & great Workers/Athletes
A piece of wrong information. Bruno went to Japan & defended his title against Baba as did Thesz & Gagne. All before Jack did.
My favorite wrestler of ALL TIME!
Thanks for watching. We appreciate it.
Love how Jack is keeping Kayfabe. Makes me feel like a kid watching
It was great to meet the man!!
You couldn't help but to like and respect Jack Brisco. He was the greatest.
damn, jack was the real deal.champion from start to finish!
That's for sure!! Thanks for watching Mel

What a Great Guy!
He sure was.
Thank you for these videos
Thanks for watching them
Amazing that these guy's talk as though this stuff is real. No wrestler ever beat anyone, the ending was predetermined
Si true
Brisco is a class act!
+jerospace You can say that again. Thanks for watching!!
jerospace I remember as a 7 or 8 year old the very first autograph I got was Jack Brisco
Back in the day, Jack Brisco was the Joe Namath of pro wrestling.
Great analogy.
Gordon Solie was best announcer ever....
thanks for watching
Amen....Gordon made wrestling real.
It's not even close!
The best ever
Bob Caudle , Jim Ross,Tony Schivone & Mike Tenay too
another great vid thsnks
Great video
thanks for watching Stevie
Baba was 6'7" and 300 lbs . The shortest I have ever hear someone say he was was 6'7" and Tallest was 7' . But he was always at least 300 lbs
These comments make me so happy, Jack was my favorite when I was a kid. A class act and great wrestler, pro and legit.
He would have turned 83 today
I love how he doesn't break kayfabe even in this interview
What is kayfabe?! You mean like it's fake, yet he's still pretending it's real ?
6400az More or less yes...fake isn't quite the right word though.
Jack Brisco Oklahoma State University alum
I think I saw Manny "Raging Bull" Fernandez sitting at the table with Jack and Jan Brisco.

Rest In Peace champ!
Thanks for watching. We appreciate it.
Brisco bros believe owned a body repairshop in tampa fl back in the day
Legendary
One of his nemesis, Paul Jones who also took his " title" is not mentioned here.
Paul Jones was never world champion
could you do a documentary on Terry funk
We asked Terry but he did not want to participate unfortunately.

Richard Bain What about Bob Backlund???
I would add Danny Hodge to that list. Hodge vs Jack actually was considered to be a dream match back then. NWA didn't do it, because of the politics.
You know that nearly everyone of the guys on this list rate Jack Brisco as their favorite to work with
Dusty Rhodes, Blackjack Mulligan, Chief Wahoo McDaniel, Steve Dr.Death Williams ThecRoad Warriors.

Yes. Rufus R "Freight train" Jones.
Bobo's brother Hank James was a very good heel here in Albuquerque.
