I swear, the clip of you getting your hands into the wet soul to mix it up gets me all kinds of excited!! I'm a "no gloves" type of gardener. I want to feel the plants, the soil. And get dirt under my nails! 😂 Strange, I know! But this is why I get manicures every 2 weeks. I can't wait to get my hands in the dirt!! Come on Spring!!

I was curious too Laura! 🤓 Blue Rottnest Daisy comes from: Rottnest Island sits just offshore from the city of Perth, in Western Australia. A protected nature reserve, it's home to the quokka, a small wallaby-like marsupial. White-sand beaches and secluded coves include the Basin, with its shallow waters, and Thomson Bay, the main hub and ferry port. Strickland Bay is known for its surf breaks, while reef breaks occur at Radar Reef, off the island's far western tip.(thx google! lol)

OMGosh! I have the same black 3 tier growing rack that you do (set up in our office). I filled it full a couple of days ago and it has been a nail biter because I only have an unheated hoop house and soooo many more seeds to start. Then, here is Laura...loading her racks with seed trays...front to back! Jaw drop! I have been using the big trays and only 2 of the Jiffy type trays fit per shelf! So here I am at 930 pm with flashlight in hand rescuing my other babies from the hoop house. This doubles my space for trays! You are a wonderful and I am a faithful fan and follower. THANK YOU! Regarding the ruffled brain celosia…one of our gardeners uses the rich pink flowers with winter centerpieces also using hydrangea blooms and eucalyptus…gorgeous!
I love the laid back attitude, dont get too technical, do what works for your style. Thats how I approach my veg/herb garden especially for companion plants and flowers to attract pollinators. Go with what works and dont stress about it. Thanks for another great video.
My sister lives in Perth, Australia. I recognised Rottnest Island. It exists - it's offshore from Perth, Western Australia surrounded by coral reefs & shipwrecks, birds and other animals. Apparently you can stay there too. Now, I need to get my much smaller collection of seeds ready. Thank you, Laura.

Just recently, I came across a vendor that's new to me but who lots of GA friends probably know and that's Renee's Garden. They have a lovely selection and their website is absolutely loaded with everything one would ever want to know about seeds and growing veggies and flowers. Laura I haven’t been watching you over the winter, in December I lost the ability to walk and had tremors so bad that I couldn’t lift a cup to my mouth. After a few hospital stays and more specialists I was diagnosed with FND (functional neurologic disorder). After a few months of therapy I’m walking while using a walker (and working on moving to a cane 🦯) and actually excited about planning my garden this year! I just didn’t want to think about it when I was basically on bed rest, not knowing if I would be able or not ❤

Rottnest Island has become somewhat famous after Rodger Fedderer visited and had selfies with the Quokkas ( marsupials) on the Island, very popular holiday place. it is approx 19klms South of Perth . those daisies should grow very well in your area as our weather is dry like yours. thanks for all your great videos have been watching you ever since you moved to your beautiful property. I especially like it because I like to see things that I am actually doing at the same time. So when I am seed starting, I like to see seed starting videos. When its blooming and cutting time I look for those videos, fall clean up etc., etc. So I hope she doesn't stop them!!!

Love your seed starting videos! I started seeds in January. I was home from work after a surgery. Bored! Snap dragon, Painted tongue, Asters, Straw flower, Ageratum, stock, eucalyptus, celosia, bells of Ireland, dara & more. Started Lisanthus in December. I'm hoping we have an early spring!! I am out of room!
If you are able to, start moving most of those outside at least during the day most of them can even take some frost (not celosia) check each one. Look for Lisa Mason Zeigler she has great info on cold hardy flowers.
hi Laura! well, if its too many seed starting videos, may be you can do some type of LOOKING BACK at your favorite PLANT COMBOS, some flower beds, containers you did over the years ? thats a lot of editing for sure but oh its so INSPIRATIONAL for this new growing season 😍😍🥰 it could be a whole new series, coz you have so many places you change out every year .. its so much fun to refresh and look back, because it does get lost in the mass of everyday videos foe sure .. also you have a ton of drone footage of your property changing , that would be a beautiful video to compile them over the years, magical video!! I like rewatching garden tours from summer months in the dead of winter and I noticed there is a lot of that drone footage adding up over the years , besides those transformation videos are always super popular
Roselle hibiscus can also be dried and they taste PHENOMENAL! They’re somewhat like cranberries but a touch sweeter and the texture is like fruit roll ups. I’m growing them this year, too, after discovering the fried options. CostPlus carries the dried option if you want to do a taste test. You have the food dehydrator so definitely check out the process of when to harvest & what parts. You will not be sorry.
I grow these every year in Brisbane, Australia. You actually harvest the "pods" after they flower and use the calix in jams and the centre part has pectin to help the jam set. You can also use the calixes blended and dried like a fruit roll up. The plants get HUGE so make sure you can get to all sides of the plant - I planted mine against a wall one year and I struggled to get the the back side!

We've lived here for 2 years, and so far, we've worked on getting the vegetable garden up. Now, I want to make our property beautiful, as I told my husband. I live in Colorado in 5b. Fabulous video filming and editing, the sounds of planting, the quick cuts of action steps - and then perfectly blended into the music underneath. Excellent info as always Laura - I'm excited to plant a couple areas that have not gotten the attention lately. Zone 4b, and a touch soon for our frost date, but gearing up. My indoor options for seedlings are limited, hoping to up my perennial game and get some repeat performers going.

The Campanulas (Canterbury Bells) are perennial in Spokane (5a,) readily self sow and "strays" are very easy to dig up and transplant wherever you want them. We have them popping up everywhere in our flower beds because the previous owners as they got too old to tend to their yard just let them naturalize at will. They are a show stopper. We have blue, white & pink. Huge bells but very tall (up to 4-5ft) so the long heavy flower spikes fall over easily. A "must stake, but well worth it" flower.

I started craspedia, statice, and strawflowers in trays Jan 15 and planted outside Feb 15. They have survived 4 snows and temps down to 28°. I'm in zone 9a. I've heard you can fall plant them but I have yet to try that. 😍Love all the flowers!!

Horminum sage are so beautiful. I planted them here in Northern Europe. I had a mixed packet of pink, white and blue/ purple the top leaves are the flowers or I can say they are coloured, very interesting. And I harvested a lot of seeds and I have heard they are self seeding

I loved the brain coral looking celestia. When I had a flower CSA the person making bouquets often added it as sort of a lower level below some small sunflowers or black eyed Susan's..... the yellows were probably my favorite, the red fuzziness against the golden flowers was lovely. Sometimes she would have some borage or bachelors buttons or other smallish blue flowers in with them as well to have all the colors your Mom uses in the garden space if it was a more well rounded color bouquet instead of just focusing on 2 colors.

So fun to see you growing an Australian native annual! We call Ptilotus 'Mulla Mulla' here. Of the 120 species, all are native to Aus but one! It grows in abundance in Central Australia (think iconic red dirt and gorges) and flowers during our winter through to early spring. Will be interesting to see how it performs in your Spring/Summer! P.S. Ptilotus has a silent 'P', think: til-low-tuss

Same here in 9b. I just planted all my seedlings outside in flower beds today and putting my grow lights away.

hi Laura! well, if its too many seed starting videos, may be you can do some type of LOOKING BACK at your favorite PLANT COMBOS, some flower beds, containers you did over the years ? thats a lot of editing for sure but oh its so INSPIRATIONAL for this new growing season 😍😍🥰 it could be a whole new series, coz you have so many places you change out every year .. its so much fun to refresh and look back, because it does get lost in the mass of everyday videos foe sure ..
also you have a ton of drone footage of your property changing , that would be a beautiful video to compile them over the years, magical video!! I like rewatching garden tours from summer months in the dead of winter and I noticed there is a lot of that drone footage adding up over the years , besides those transformation videos are always super popular

Really loved the style of this video once you went out into the greenhouse to start the seeds.
Roselle hibiscus can also be dried and they taste PHENOMENAL! They’re somewhat like cranberries but a touch sweeter and the texture is like fruit roll ups. I’m growing them this year, too, after discovering the fried options. CostPlus carries the dried option if you want to do a taste test. You have the food dehydrator so definitely check out the process of when to harvest & what parts. You will not be sorry.
I grow these every year in Brisbane, Australia. You actually harvest the "pods" after they flower and use the calix in jams and the centre part has pectin to help the jam set. You can also use the calixes blended and dried like a fruit roll up. The plants get HUGE so make sure you can get to all sides of the plant - I planted mine against a wall one year and I struggled to get the the back side!

I recently began watching your channel because I am now searching for inspiration and wisdom about growing flowers around my property. We've lived here for 2 years, and so far, we've worked on getting the vegetable garden up. Now, I want to make our property beautiful, as I told my husband. I live in Colorado in 5b. I want to cultivate mostly perennial, heat and drought loving gardens in the various yard areas. This is a huge undertaking, but I will be watching your channel for ideas and encouragement! Thanks!

The Campanulas (Canterbury Bells) are perennial in Spokane (5a,) readily self sow and "strays" are very easy to dig up and transplant wherever you want them. We have them popping up everywhere in our flower beds because the previous owners as they got too old to tend to their yard just let them naturalize at will. They are a show stopper. We have blue, white & pink. Huge bells but very tall (up to 4-5ft) so the long heavy flower spikes fall over easily. A "must stake, but well worth it" flower.

Thank you for inspiration this morning, Laura! My husband built me a greenhouse for this season, I have filled it up already! I still need tomatoes and my 4-6 week flowers as well. Watching you move things to the studio made me think I still have all my grow lights and shelving in the basement. I'm heading downstairs to start more seeds! Happy growing!

I started craspedia, statice, and strawflowers in trays Jan 15 and planted outside Feb 15. They have survived 4 snows and temps down to 28°. I'm in zone 9a. I've heard you can fall plant them but I have yet to try that. 😍Love all the flowers!!

Horminum sage are so beautiful. I planted them here in Northern Europe. I had a mixed packet of pink, white and blue/ purple the top leaves are the flowers or I can say they are coloured, very interesting. And I harvested a lot of seeds and I have heard they are self seeding

I loved the brain coral looking celestia. When I had a flower CSA the person making bouquets often added it as sort of a lower level below some small sunflowers or black eyed Susan's..... the yellows were probably my favorite, the red fuzziness against the golden flowers was lovely. Sometimes she would have some borage or bachelors buttons or other smallish blue flowers in with them as well to have all the colors your Mom uses in the garden space if it was a more well rounded color bouquet instead of just focusing on 2 colors.

So fun to see you growing an Australian native annual! We call Ptilotus 'Mulla Mulla' here. Of the 120 species, all are native to Aus but one! It grows in abundance in Central Australia (think iconic red dirt and gorges) and flowers during our winter through to early spring. Will be interesting to see how it performs in your Spring/Summer!
P.S. Ptilotus has a silent 'P', think: til-low-tuss
