🌐 HDLC and PPP: To establish connections between routers, we'll be configuring HDLC (High-Level Data Link Control) and PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) at Layer 2. These protocols allow for efficient data transmission over WAN links.
🔍 Comparison with Ethernet: Before diving into configuration, let's compare HDLC and PPP with Ethernet, a protocol we're more familiar with. While Ethernet operates at both Layer 1 and 2, HDLC and PPP operate solely at Layer 2. Ethernet frames contain destination and source MAC addresses, while HDLC and PPP frames only have a destination address, making them simpler.
🖥️ Topology Setup: In our setup, we have routers, switches, and a demo laptop interconnected. We'll establish T1 connections between routers and configure HDLC on one link and PPP on another. Data will flow from the laptop to the router, across the HDLC and PPP links, and into another Ethernet network.
📦 Frame Differences: Comparing Ethernet frames with HDLC and PPP frames, we notice differences in header size and content. Ethernet frames contain destination and source MAC addresses, whereas HDLC and PPP frames only have a destination address. Additionally, Ethernet frames have a larger header and may vary in size due to MAC addresses, while HDLC and PPP frames have simpler headers.
Stay tuned, techno studs! We're about to get hands-on with configuring these protocols for efficient WAN connectivity. #Cisco1841 #WANConfiguration 🚀🔌

Good Morning .......perfect bit size .....of to take that exam again lets see what I have learnt....
Good morning! Let me know how the practice exam goes today.

hi i have a question, LLC implement HDLC and PPP? Or LLC is just a theoretical thing?
I'm not 100% sure on this, but here is my best shot...
IEEE 802 defines the logical link control (LLC). 802 defines LAN protocols. HDLC and PPP are consider WAN protocols, so LLC is not quite applicable to HDLC and PPP. However, there are some similarities. One source said that LLC took some inspiration from HDLC, so there are some overlapping concepts. LLC functionality would be found in PPP and HDLC.
Are DEC DTE CSU DSU interchangeable terms?
They are not. A DCE/DTE is defined by the RS-232, a type of serial connection. The DCE would be the device on one side of the serial interface which established the timing where as the DTE would be on the other side. It would also determine the pinouts of each side.
A CSU/DSU is the device similar to a modem, but allows you to connect to a digital circuit such as a DS1. The CSU/DSU is a type of DCE equipment.
Many of these terms are still used today, but made more sense with equipment used in the past. At one point, the CSU/DSU was a separate box that plugged into the router via a serial cable. The router was the DTE on one side of the serial cable where as the CSU/DSU was the DCE on the other side. Over time, equipment becomes more consolidated and the need for distinguishing the difference becomes less significant. However, we tend to hold onto these concepts far past their usefulness, so it can be important to understand the history. Often, I like to give a bit of a history lesson because I find in understanding the past technologies, we can better understand current technologies.
@@TechKnowSurge Couldn't have send it better myself 😏🙃 I need to go and rest my clock rate which side is that on now?🤣
630 on todays test.....the same test but still guessing some questions....
It's heading in the right direction, that's great. Does the test tell you what areas you should focus on?
Not really analysed where my weak areas are as yet don't want learn to answers question still trying to pick up as much knowledge as possible ..........your videos are helping a lot will look at were my weak point are on Wednesday then it will be a more focused study session...
@@weniweedeewiki.6237 This is a great approach, very similar to what I do. Keep up the great work!
