I'm guessing the protag has a shard of 'ol Emps on him because holy FUCK the guy puches WAY too far up his weight class (literally in the great unclean one's case). PS: The melee is actually VERY useful for instakilling small dudes without wasting ammo, and it makes it so pink horrors and chosen avatars CAN'T do their after-death effects. Plus, it's a grat way to jump gaps towards more enemies to *PURGE.*
Vengeance rounds? I know there was a few bolt rounds designed to penetrate power armor. I remember in the Panderax book they had a Lord of Change where they fired the main cannon of a Hell Hammer at it and it just stopped the shell mid flight. Then it just disassembled it so it can get a better look. Bird daemon be scary.

The thing is that you only keep your weapons and secrets if you entered the level from the previous level. If you enter from the level select screen you start with just the Boltgun, and it's a fun challenge (at least for me) to play through every level that way since it forces you to play strategically until you get your weapons back (which many levels don't actually give you _every_ weapon available to that point).
Sad news about NipNip - in one of the last streams Bricky confessed that only the first of his 3 videos about him actually happen, hence why only the first have "storytime" in the title. Cool story nevertheless, and an additional reason why Bricky cringes a bit when remembering that story and why he's striving to become better as a content creator over time.
You should see Civvie11s review of this one. I found it pretty funny. He raised a good point that this isn't really a boomer shooter. It has more in common with the Doom 4 game.

The one marine destroying everything that is canon remember that fcking iron snake marine who was send alone againts the drukhari so yes bolt gun absolutely canon one more thing is a ultramarine too (iron snake are successor chapter of them) so this game is even more canon with this mary sues!!!

It is an awesomely cheesy game, fun as hell, made by passionate devs. It is not perfect, and it doesn't have to be. *But,* it is _not_ a Boomer Shooter, despite what the marketing claims. My guess is that Bricky isn't really versed in that field, or else he would have mentioned it. A "Boomer Shooter" is not just retro graphics and shooty-boomboom, but it has some enemy placement logic, level design. Just use DUSK for reference. _Boltgun_ is closer to DOOM 2016 as a game, which makes it closer to a Retro Shooter. And sure, it isn't a very relevant detail, but it is yet another example of "Don't trust commercials blindly in the game industry". The cheesy voice-acting of the trailers is on par with the tone of the game though. 😎

I think we always have to accept some degree of lore inaccuracy for the sake of coolness or gameplay variety in video game adaptations.
