Raiders of The Lost Ark was released on June 12th, 1981, well before the internet was commercially available to everyone, and before CGI. Ben Burtt was the sound designer for the film, who also did both Star Wars Trilogies and the other two Indiana Jones films after: Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade. It was already confirmed by IMDB that there was an error in geography that a ptarmigan was heard in the background, alongside another bird that can be heard that's only found in Europe.
Watched Trevor and the bird call winner and came straight to TH-cam to check out the real call. 😂😂😂

I just stumbled across a flock of willow ptarmigans in Hatcher's Pass, near Palmer, on September Alaska. At first they were quiet but then I heard the Munchkin like voices. I wish I had a recorder with me! There were a dozen of them and they all began to echo each other. My favorite sound was "i SWEAR to it!", which several of them shouted in turn as I got near them. Your track captures this sound at 1:22 but I must have heard it 7 times in one minute.

Working at a mine in the Yukon, west of Carmacks. Been seeing these 'chicken birds' all over the place here. Strangest sounding bird. I had no idea what I was looking at, but now I know. Exact same sound as on your video. What a strange call they make, lol!
I'm so positive that this is where they got the sound for the song "surfing bird" because if you listen to all of there calls they have one that sounds exactly the the buh-buh-meow-buh-buh-buh-meow noise 😂

I love the sounds these birds make. I've just been to Alaska this June and we saw a Willow Ptarmigan on our bus tour through Denali. My dad got a photo of what was a male, but it wasn't until the rest of the tour, that I realized that the Ptarmigan call was actually used in Indiana Jones and The Raiders of The Lost Ark, which begs me to ask one question. How did a bird only indigenous to the northern part of North America end up in a rain forest in South America?
I LOVE watching "Life Below Zero" and lots of other REAL shows that lets me see how people in Alaska really live---- SO COOL! :-) :-) It is a TOUGH Life to live in such a COOOOOOOLLLD part, brrrrrrrrrrr, i'd be dead in ONE week IF i ever moved to Alaska, which is WHY i'll NEVER go, ha HAha! :-P

Imagine this.
I was reading a lighthearted novel, you see. And there was one sentence that made me quite confused. It mentioned something along the lines of "tittering like a delighted Willow Ptarmigan."
What the heck is a "Willow Ptarmigan" I asked myself. I had to look it up in google before proceeding with the story reading. And found out it is a type of bird. Intrigued, I decided to watch youtube video about it to hear how it sounds like. And what a sound it was! It had me laughing out loud and drying my eyes from tears that were squeezed out from laughing so hard. So when the novel said a character laughed like a "Willow Ptarmigan", it was telling the readers that that character is very bad at laughing. But it is a funny thing to hear nonetheless.

I know native americans used to imitate the sounds of wild birds and coyotes. I never heard of such a bird until today. If i was in my tent and heard that noise, i would have thought a crazy man was out there just waiting for me to come out and fight him.
