I lived in Korea for 30 years and your short segment on etiquette is quite good. One addition: Drinking with Koreans is great fun. They're skilled storytellers and very interesting people anyway, but when they drink, they're absolutely delightful companions.
When I went to Korea, this stuff was the night changing legend. You could it a buck or two at the 7/11 or mom and pop shops. Many a nights I didn’t remember anything. Keep up the good work
Having been stationed in Korea soju brings back so many wild memories. I was lucky to work with some awesome Korean soldiers who we became great friends with and showed us around the country. Those nights were the most wild I've ever had.
Yakult + Soju is my daily pre-bedtime drink right now just because of how easily available the ingredients are. So good! You might wanna check out Suntory’s Strong Zero chuhi, those are also fun drinks to have.
@slightlycultured well done. As a Korean American, you got it right. I got hammered in Korea in my youth not realizing the empty cup gets refilled rule. I finished my drink and thought I was done. Great job!
Ima keep leaving these comments because I’m definitely watching everything you have uploaded, i definitely love your content, your humor is great, and again the editing man don’t stop this please keep it up!
Dude you’re production is amazing. Plus you’re genuinely entertaining, and u always seem to word things in a very easily digestible way. Keep it up✌🏻✌🏻
American here who is a seasoned drinker to say the least. I’ve tried all kinds of stuff but in terms of Asian alcohols, I’ve only really tried Japanese beer and whiskey, Chinese beer and some Philippine beer. I can honestly say that soju (original) tastes exactly like watered down vodka to me. It’s actually quite delicious and provides and nice warm feeling to the head.
Small correction: Baijiu is the #1 selling alcohol in the world. Primary differences between Soju and Baijiu: grains distilled from (Baijiu is almost always sorghum with a few exceptions), typical abv (Baijiu doesn't really dip below 35%), and country of origin. It's no doubt that they are similar spirits, but Moutai alone reported $14.4b in 2020 revenue (Bloomberg) with 5.2 billion liters sold in 2020 (Statista). Editing is great and your presentation style is excellent!
I'd had Soju in both South Korea and the Philippines when I was in the Marines and liked, it, but after I came back Stateside it wasn't in the shops so I didn't have it again for a long time. Now I'm married to a Korean, so Soju is always on-hand for us! Hanjan is hard to get where we live (and what we can get is only in the 750ml bottles), but Damso is starting to appear (YES!). Jinro, Good Day, Soon Hari, etc. are all available at our Korean shops (though some you have to ask for it - so if you're near a Korean shop & don't see it, ASK!). We mainly drink it straight or as Somaek (beer and Soju), but it's so versatile you can go wild with Soju. Drop in some fruit Torani syrup, or Ume soda... An awesome cocktail is 1/3 Plum or Lychee Soju, 1/3 honey syrup, and 1/3 lemon juice (Absolutely PERFECT summer refresher!)... and, try the unflavoured version in your Bloody Mary (you're WELCOME)! Great vid, gotta subscribe now!
Hey man amazing video quality with awesome editing and jokes and content! Upload as often as you want but you make super nice videos which are very enjoyable, so we’d obviously love to see more. Keep it up broski
Aye man I just watched 2 of your vids, I love your edits you don’t over do it and even though you’re doing like popular trends they’re not cringey they’re actually funny. I’m sure your channel will see EVEN MORE growth than you’ve already had! Big things for you’re future man keep up the good work!
There is a yakult flavored soju! Tastes exactly the same. My liquor store near me caries so many flavors of soju. My go to combo is green grape soju + orange juice + sprite. For the etiquette if you aren't Korean they will give you a pass if you mess up! Cheers!
I watched your first video yesterday and now this. I don't know if there are other channels like this but these videos are kinda interesting for me and like other people said, your video's quality are amazing! You got a sub
Can you explain how I see Smirnoff in every store/pub/restaurant/etc i goto and ive NEVER heard of soju yet its the worlds best selling alcohol? Have i missed something here?
I was expecting Somaek as the cocktail in the end! Drank quite a bit of it with some Korean students when I visited Seoul! It's a mix of beer and soju.
To be fair Smirnoff in a cheapest store is still 6-7 times more expensive than soju and 3 times stronger, which not too many people are willing to risk. In S. Korea you can find soju for less than a eur. You can get 3-4 bottles of soju for a price of 1 beer. Plus it's soft and has variety of tastes. And that's the main reasons why it sells so well. Unless you're planning on drinking with Koreans, you can just skip the etiquette. Most of the time I was chugging straight from the bottle and no one cared.
I got super hooked on grapefruit soju in Korea. It was less than $5 USD too, very affordable. Unfortunately here in the states the same bottle costs $15+ 😭
Korean here... Let me recommend you to CHUMCHURUM(첨처름) and HALLASAN(Jeju island soju) These are bomb! Sweet soju taste and very very smooth flavor that Just 1 bottle of it and you will not notice that you're already drunk..
one thing you've missed: kr drinks, whether it be beer, soju or Makgeolli-or whatever, though anything other than those will be hard to find- are, whenever possible, chased with some sort of foodstuffs, ranging from crisps and peanuts to fancy grilled pork and anything in between. Makgeolli with pajeon is op on rainy days.
@@SlightlyCultured Keep up the good work man, I have a feeling your channel will blow up! And keep posting these interesting spirits like the most ABV and best selling, those are the type of videos people will gravitate towards.
Had a foreign friend from India who loved this stuff, first time I tried it I was shocked it even had alcohol. Take this as my before 1million subs comment too😂.
can you make a video or a short about how some people add soju to their beer? some people just knock the shot glass into their beer glass and others balance their shot glasses on top of chopsticks that are balanced on their beer glass and bang on the table until it falls in. Have you seen this yourself?
Currently in Korea and my favorite drink over here is somaek. It’s beer mixed with unflavored soju. Mostly mixed with cass (a cheap beer in S.Korea) and when done right you can’t even taste the soju but you sure feel it!

This is a really great combination
@@SlightlyCultured sitting outside the 7/11 it's the best! ;D
Strong zero tastes to strongly alcoholic, it has the abv of beer and burns like wodka😣
Can't wait to become addicted to this.
Please don't lmao
Everytime I go to Korean BBQ I drink a soju to myself basically. Rice wine gives such a nice buzz compared to western alcohols.
You only get one bad hangover….then you’ll never be able to drink it again, regardless of how they’re flavored
