okay let*s get somethig clear. there are two types of fouettes. The "french" ones and the "russian" ones . It is a matter of school and musicality. the frech ones are the ones with the rond de jamb and there are usually done on the 3/4 tact count one opens front, cout two rod with releve a la seconde cout three turn (best example coda from Bayadere) russian fouettes are done on 2/4 tact meaning count one opens side count two turn. it is a matter of style and ability but both are legal
wow! great spoting hope i can do fouette turns like THAT some day! then again i am only 12 and just started on point , but man! she is such a good dancer!
I'm pretty sure I was at this performance or saw one during the same season. This was a regular night at the ballet for me growing up. The platinum age of ballet (though there are technically better dancers today). I forgot Nagy was a left turner.
For a more dynamic record of Makarova as Odile, check out her PDD with Anthony Dowell. Her fouettés wander more in that recording than in this, but overall, it’s a technically stronger and dramatically more compelling performance.
I KNOW NATALIA DIDN'T HAVE THE EXTREME LINES THAT MOST BALLERINAS HAVE BUT SHE IS COMPELLING! AND EXPRESSES HERSELF, THAT YOU BELEIVE SHE IS "ODILE" SHES THE "BOMB"
I think people does indeed start to know about the fouettes spins thanks to Black Swan. But hey! don't get mad about this, it's good that thanks to movies people starts to get interested in Arts, such as Ballet.
Yes, but can you hold an audience? Can you get them to watch you and no one else? That doesn’t depend on technique, that’s a gift you’re born with and can never learn.
@devadasi With the Russian ones, the leg that spins out just touches the knee when it comes back in, rather than doing that extra little corkscrew motion.
@dreamingofastranger It's not you, I got the same sensation -as far as the dance, even got an excellent technic, black swan coda needs more allegro, dynamism for the occasion.
@cnharrison123 i have plenty of respect and believe firmly that dancers like these were trailblazers and set an example for others to follow. that doesnt mean there arent better dancers around today. everyones entitled to their own opinions. have some respect. ;)
I know she's a true legend but i don't particularly like this video of her... she looks so awkward and a little clumsy. I really admire her but this just looked a little messed up...
Technically there is no comparison. Murphy blows her out of the water. But Makarova we pretty good for the time I guess the standards now are completely different.
@@matthewkolodziej4259 Actually, Makarova was pretty weak in pirouettes and fouettés. Not a natural turner at all. The natural turner of the time, in America anyway was Cynthia Gregory, and I believe, Eleanor D'Antuono. But what Makarova had in spades, and these are rarer qualities but more lasting - dramatic conviction and charisma. You see Gillian Murphy knocking off double and triple fouettés like there's nothing to them as Odile, but you also see her falling in and out of character as Odile. Odile, then ballet student. Odile, then ballet student. In character then out of character, in then out. You can see her doing it in her ABT video performance with Angel Corella.
Stoyan Stoyanov ya? you can do 32 pirouettes from 5th en point? without stopping? with proper technique? well i’d like to see that from a first year ballet student.
"NATALIA MAKAROVA" WAS THE DANCER OF MY TIME, SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Can you do a foutte turn now? 😜
she just keeps going and going and going and going

Acabadisima muestra, De Gran Arte, De Gran Calidad. Makarova Magistral.

seems like she is even more precise and articulate than the orchestra

for one second i thougt she was gonna fall because of how many times she was spinning but she just kept going
Hi Dad...Steph Endo
thumbs up if you knew of the famous spin and DIDN'T see the movie Black Swan! (I myself am guilty, :P lol)
Although technique does evolve, Her balances stand out against any dancer of today...
@dreamingofastranger It's not you, I got the same sensation -as far as the dance, even got an excellent technic, black swan coda needs more allegro, dynamism for the occasion.
Is it just me or is the orchestra a little.... off?
In my pointe shoes I can get 25 fouettes, but doing the Russian ones, I can only get about three! They are SO hard!
@AnaOlivera2009 What was gay about it?
@foropera he was french, but he was simply exploiting the circus-like tricks of the italian ballerinas he had on hand....
im only 12 and started dancing on pointe ubout a year ago but WOW i no talent when i see it!
Now you re probably 22, how is it going?

great but gillian murphy did it better i think

she was good but the male step is too easy to be as good as you say there was
Natalia is amazing as always but I hate the orchestra in this for some reason...
Great si swan lake ballet , is a fogs , for a god ' s day , say it: jennie petersen rodriguez and alden richard.
baryshnikov did very much better grand pirouettes
there have been better
Cite ballerina and performance, please. This is very precise and clean.
i've been training balley from one year or so and i'm already better than both of them

dat was gay
do not like this choreography at all.
