    I knew Jimbo back in Chapel Hill daze. He is still awesome and rocking. But he may have the blues. ❤

    I bought a Stop and let the Devil Ride CD at the flea market just cause the title was so cool and it looked interesting. Never had heard of James Mathus. One of the best chances I ever took.

      That's how I get a lot of my music. Most of it turns out pretty well. That's how I found James as well as Justin Townes Earl

      @@russnurse2b807 A random thing to know is Jim was in the band Squirrel Nut Zippers which were like a swing/big band revival band in the 90's that were pretty popular for a little while. And that Justin Townes Earle is named after Townes Van Zant and Justin's father is Steve Earle who was a collaborator and big fan of Townes. Unfortunately Justin passed recently. Never got to see him in concert.

      @@robertm4050 I knew about Justin(God rest his soul) being named after Townes, and that Steve was his dad but I had no idea about Jim and Squirrel Nut Zippers. I'll have to look that up. Thanks for sharing. I've only seen him on youtube. I watched one where a guy was heckling him and he basically told him to shut up.

      @@russnurse2b807 I hadn't listened to JImbo in a while. Then I decided to go through a box of cds I hadn't seen since I bought my house. Grabbed a few and one happened to be a mix of songs I made when my son was born(the day he was born), and it just so happened to be my son's birthday yesterday. I decided to share the song with an online group I am in and while finding a link started looking up random stuff and found that he was in that band. Also found that he has collaborated with another long time favorite, Andrew Bird. Pretty wild to randomly find all that out yesterday.

    Old Jimbo has been writing songs and performing lately with my girl, Samantha Fish. Good on him.

      @@brianrosenberger Sam's signature tune is I Put a Spell on You, the old Screamin' Jay Hawkins track, which she has made her own. I saw an interview with her where she says her Bulletproof rendition gets a lot of requests lately. I love her covers of the old Mississippi blues--Jim Lee, by Charlie Patton. As an old Steve Miller fan, I am also impressed by her take on Big Old Jet Airliner, which she did early in her career as part of Girls With Guitars. I love everything about her--towering musical talent, looks, voice, songwriting, even her clothes and jewelry.

    "Sop my gravy" makes no sense. Sop means to dip or soak something in gravy. So then, how can one soak or dip gravy in gravy? Conundrum? I believe so.

    • @Musicinthehall
      @Musicinthehall  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always thought of the gravy as the object of the sopping. As in, "who'll sop my gravy (with a biscuit)?"

    • @msutdude
      @msutdude 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never looked up "sop" in the dictionary, but around here, "sop" means to chase whats left on the plate 'til it's gone.

      +thejumpers In scotland feeding the pony is slang for pleasuring a lady (based on the similarity of hand action)
      So I assume soping gravy is akin to consuming a gents discharge
