I am shocked that Roy was the only one to do the review. It’s such a big game that I thought there would be 3 or 4 people.
Roy did a great job but I agree. There is a retail version of this game coming out soon, and if this is also supposed to be a more “accessible” WoTR or SW Rebellion it would have been nice to hear from more of the DT crew. Curious to get more insights re: the 4-player experience as well.
Totally agree. Roy does a great job, but this review really should have had more Dice Tower crew. Tom likes WotR. Zee not much into these epic games, so I didn't expect him to join, but between Mike, Milla, Joey, Chris and Wendy, there should have bern one other person to join Tom and Roy and give this game the variety of reviewers that I think it deserves.
Roy is the only one liking War of The Ring, if I'm not mistaken, this is a similar type of game...

Just played it last night and it's incredible. Very impressive quality, variety and detail on the pieces. Lots of depth and complexity, but after the first round it was simple to pick up. Very different play style for Atreides vs Harkonnen. Haven't even tried the optional rules or expansions yet so tons of replay value! Absolute winner!
Ok...now I'm super glad I backed this. Very excited for this to arrive now.

Thank you, I backed this as I love the IP. The problem is it's going to be a long time before it makes it to the table and I was starting to worry it was not going to live up, but you've settled my nerves.

14:40 Few mistakes:
1. Leaders are in play if you have their card on your dashboard
2. You can use Leader's actions as long as they are not in Regeneration Tank and only once per Round. They do NOT NEED to be deployed.

Cool game, great minis, but I still much prefer the Lord of the Rings IP. I would play War of the Ring with the expansions over this. I don't think I need to own both.
Edit: I stand corrected; I played it and actually enjoyed it much more than War of the Ring Second Edition. It's so much more streamlined and quickly becomes one of my favorite games! :)

Beast Rabban is a Leadership character, not strategy. His card should be in the left most space. The symbol on the top left of the card denotes what section the card gets placed in as you just match the symbol on the card to the one on the space.

Question for the Spice Must Flow board: What is the thematic ties to getting more vehicles the less spice you are able to give to the 3 houses (I am guessing lower rows)?
You push your resources to have more harvesters, but you lose the flexobility by being forsed to do it!
So you burn your influnce, wealth, solars to harvesters instead of using best option in each situation like you have when you are on the top of the track!
I feel that a lot of people will be kicking themselves for not backing this. That neoprene mat is so very nice.
It was the over 100 quid in tax an postage that put me off the Kickstarter, especially when its cost me just 100 quid to pre order from a shop
Played my copy the other day. Really clever streamlining and adaption of the Wotr system that let's the Dune theme shine through. Takes less time to play than Wotr yet retains the epic feeling. Easily one of our new favourites!
27:20 all bans are in effect only if you are at the lowest row, not whenever you move down.... in which case you only apply 1 ban, not all 3.
When atomics have been deployed can worms attack the inner area?

Love this game from what I’ve experienced so far, though due to length and availability we haven’t had a full playthrough yet.
That being said I also see a lot of dna shared with Star Wars rebellion which I just added to my collection and was able to get a playthrough of and me and my wife absolutely loved it! It’s as described, it’s Star Wars in a box!
It’s because of those reasons and this review that I’ve added War of the acting to my wish list.
But before I move on to that and other games getting a full playthrough of dune is super high up on my to do list!
I haven't played my copy of War for Arrakis yet, but I have played a lot of Rebellion. On reading the WfA rules, I definitely saw similarities to Rebellion. Not that it is hard to sell my friends on a Dune game, but telling them it's a like Rebellion is making it even easier.
Super love this one and think about it like every twenty minutes or so.
Same, I've played it like 8 times already and I can't stop thinking about it.
So if the Atreides player reaches one of thier required numbers on the Presience track but for example if thier Jihad needed to be 8 and they reached it but next round two harvesters were removed and now the Jihad goes to 9 would they just lose the game? Because they need the exact number? Or is thier a way to lower thier presience values?

@ZabbaXXL at the time I was looking at the WIP rulebook where it said you need exact numbers but I downloaded and read the new rulebook where it says meet or exceeds which I am thankful for because on TTS Atreides never would win because then couldn't get the exact number

Wery unlike in this game… it is about harconne and atreides. The rest of The houses could Only be minor thing in this game. Maybe mini expansions like smuglers and guilds that play on both sides.
The starting deployment tokens for Atreides are not the green bordered ones. Starting deployment tokens have a gold background. The green bordered ones are regular deployment tokens.
Are the components in this video KS exclusive? Is the worm one of those?
The huge worm is but the other ones are in the regular game. 3D Buildings and plastic markers are all cardboard in the regular game
Is this only 2 player game, or 3, 4? If more players is it still as good?
The carryall you places at 8:15 can't save the Harvesters in Deep Desert, it's not connected to that Sector
I think that you can… they belongs to the Same sector.
@@haukionkannel no, completely different sectors, as denoted by dashed blue line. Air Zone for that sector is located more to the top of the video, next to Atreides Action die

So this this is only playable for two players?
It can be played with 4, but you are just dividing up both sides. At it's core it is Atreides vs Harkonen
Also has a solo mode.
2, 3 or 4… and there is a solo variant.

It looks like a great game, but I'm concerned that it is a little too similar to war of the ring since I own that and already played that a ton.
Similar and not… this is much faster and also simpler considering the cards, harder in tactical level.
I have both and i like them for different reasons. The dice system definitely is similar and battle definitely have similar elements. But i still consider these different enough in style, even they share similar game mechanics.
A badic overview in 30+ mins... woof, this is a hefty little bugger.
I canceled the first time around; I think I'll have to pull the trigger this time.
In reviews like this I can't help but wonder what the score would be without the IP
I played with Stephen Buonocore and he doesn’t know the IP very well at all but he loves war of the ring and he also immensely enjoyed the game based on the mechanics unless the theme but for me, it pushes it over the edge by nailing both!

War of the Ring is GOAT
So it's basically Star Wars: Rebellion. The powerfull oppressive guys win by destroying your bases and the hidden resistant guys win by using guerrilla tactics to achieve missions.

Wow I'm shocked they actually made good looking components. The cards also actually have great art. Hmm I think another popular dune game should take notes.( Yes I know, different games and companies)

Not that expensive. However it is of a certain quality, so as with everything of quality in life, it demands a certain sacrifice.

The most important part of this review is all the cardboard hanging over the table edges.
This game is practically unplayable even on giant dedicated gaming tables.

I almost backed it, but ultimately I found the gameplay too dull and the whole package too expensive.

@tonkabeanicecream5698 yes, but more objective, like 8/10 people like the minis, there dice and luck involved, this game is 10/10, but I think star wars rebellion is even better... some more information that puts his opinions in proper perspective and weight so it's more helpful to the audience
I do not like the dune movies. I think I might like the books but I haven't read them yet. However, I picked it up today because it's a streamlined version of war of the ring. So I will let you know how the game is from a non dune fan's perspective, after I play it of course.

What makes you think it's poor balance? On my playthroughs, it seemed pretty well-thought in terms of balance and catch up mechanics
Very tight balance. All games have been really tight and both players were really close to win!
Seems you don't really know what you are talking about regarding poor balance - you have offered no explanation to justify your statement. Maybe you are just cut you missed out on a KS copy and feel the need to hate on the game :)

Thufir Hawat is one of the Harrkonen leaders in the game? Uuuuuummmm….He was a loyal Atreides leader. Peter Devries was the Harkkonen mentat. What a colossal blunder
So a couple of things that are bothering me. I like the minis for the vehicles and bases, but not for the figures. I would prefer cubes for that, but that is just me. Get rid of the damn giant sandworm. Just looking at the game I feel it is over produced in some areas and under in others. For instance...the cards....those do not look linen finished...they look cheap as hell even though the art work is great. The track markers on the 2 sides of the board, better as wood discs with screen printing. The price of this game could have been reduced if a lot of the plastic was removed...the worms could have been wooden tokens. I do understand the cool factor, but i want better and durable cards, neoprene mat over board, get rid of half that plastic. I just feel this game could be half the price and with certain parts better made. THAT being said...the game mechanics and overall theme fit...looks perfect. A commenter before me basically asked if you take the theme out is it still good, and I think you can tell that it would be. Would it be as good? No, but it still looks like everything flows well.
Also...I'm not color blind so I don't know, but I feel like red/green was an awful choice. Maybe someone can chime in here that knows, because if I were to play this with my buddy, he is color blind and I believe these colors would make it very difficult.
I think the giant worms makes sense to me. Cubes and wooden discs wouldn't give me this epic feeling and immersion I get when I play it.
What a horrible review. It was so unstructured and unfocused. I think it could've benefited from being scripted and having the script been rewritten a couple of times. "I can't explain the game in too much detail" brother what? It's your video, you decide the length.
I stopped watching immediately after he pronounced Sayyadina as Sardia??? Considering Roy is the “sci-fi” guy that was really disappointing and unprepared
