- Take a walk with me through Barry Town Shopping Centre, lots of locally owned Shop's & some big names too, a must visit when at Barry Island.

Thank you for the memories! I was born and raised in Barry and moved to North Carolina when I was 21. Lots of good memories from Barry Town. Barnaby's bookshop, the fancy dress shop that seemed like it was only open for about five minutes a week, buying Pokemon cards at the market on Tuesdays. Once I tripped on a paving slab in front of Greggs and fell flat on my face. Still good memories, though - thank you for taking the time to do this. Your content always makes me nostalgic. :)
WH Smith’s was Marge Evans. I remember my cousin driving an army duck through Marge Evans window, when the army was on the square, showing off their vehicles.
The toilets were to the right hand side of the square, up against Nat West Bank wall. The men’s was by the front end and the women’s were opposite by the park entrance. It’s all filled in now, such a shame. I remember going for a bath back then. Piping hot water as well 👍
why n o mention of the merchant navy monument out side the civic which was not mentioned either
40-50 yrs ago Barry was a decent little town, lots of independent shops as well as chain stores, 4 cinema's, clean level pavement's, loads of jobs, well policed and so on......
But with the closing of the docks and the loss of B.P,, and decades of criminal levels of miss management the town is now a sad, grubby shadow of it's former self 😖
I remember that cinema, when they showed “independence day” you had to book your seat. Just as well I did, if you booked, you would go straight to the front of the queue. And the queue went right back up the road towards Gladstone park roundabout.
You want to walk different sections of Barry as well. For example, from that roundabout, opposite to where the old cinema was once, down to broad st,
another one the full length of high st.

The knap area where the lido was,
old harbour rd towards Barry island.
From holton rd school up towards the basset.
Those grey posts with the red bits on top. I bet the council paid stupid money for them

We were there 1979. I remember the toilets in the square it was the only one I've ever seen with barb wire. Mum dragged us all into Dan Evans, she loved it.
There was a strike on at the time and someone came up to me and said " There's bread in that shop"
Very friendly place.
I've seen your videos before and it's great for us that no longer live there.
Thompson St was notorious in its day. Apparently my understanding, it was the first place where coppers patrolled in pairs. When I was a kid, we use to dare one another to walk the full length of Thompson St. we never went there in the dark,
I've heard a lot about Thomson St back in the day 😂
My husband's ancestors come from Barry. Richard and Eva Stolp left 1926 for Australia. We hope to see Barry when we retire in the next couple of years.

A beautiful day in Barry Island, lots of similer shops but it looks so much nicer and cleaner there than here in Scunthorpe

Left Barry in 75, 9 years old, emigrated. Have been back a few times over the years. Looks very quite.
if im correct Mr D there used to be a shopping basket newsagents next door to a halfords back in the mid 90s then of course there were shops like blockbusters where costas is now

Peacocks used to be called Rayers. Shame how the town has diminished. We used to have so much!😢

The DIY place by the post office was Wasons
Peacocks used to be Rayers. Not sure before that.Boots close during lunchtime for an hour due to short staff.
boots was a few shops one was coopers the mens out fitters then became part of dan evans also there was terrys cafe then they moved further done holton road
It's sadly gone downhill since then as several shops have closed over the last month.

Good vlog Steve barry town looks different from the last time I went into barry town but you stood on one part where nessa did her statue on gavin and Stacey not far from the library don't get lost or squashed and keep safe and speak more soon 🙌 👍🏼

Nice Dudgies, I heard you say this is Thompson st leading to the Docks my Mother was from Coronation st off Thompson st , she used to say it’s the Tiger Bay of Barry, I haven’t been there since I was a kid I’m 65 now, when the Sun shone my Mother would turn a golden Bronze skin tan colour and I would say I wonder what blood we have running through our veins from around the world, ships from all corners of the world called there.
Hiya mate, yeah that's correct Coronation St is just around the corner. How awesome would it be to be to step back in time to when the area was full of people from all around the world & the town centre was at its peak. The area was definitely the Tiger Bay of Barry, from the story's I've been told. 🙂👌
How far is it by foot from Barry train station to Barry town center
Your best bet is to get off at Barry Docks train station, it's a lot closer. About 8 to 10 mins walk 👍

Sorry haven't left any comments recently. Life been a bit hectic and we have a new puppy (Dulux dog). We were gutted when Woolworths closed as my wife used to be in charge of kids clothes in our local one. Would love to give you a video of our local shops. But our village only has one😂

Not in the town centre, McDonald's is on the outskirts of Barry 😀👌
I live in Barry and I remember everything you say , peacocks was Lipton's Cesar's is the best coffee shop in town , Now I go to Cwmbran to shop it's much better than Barry
