I feel like we're living in a bit of a musical golden age where you can buy a quality easy-to-play musical instrument setup for fifty bucks. I've been playing for almost two years and continue to be delighted with an Aklot tenor as my only ukulele. It has a rating of 4.7 on Amazon with over four thousand ratings (where the others are equally strong but with only a couple hundred ratings). It's also the only one in the group with side fret markers. If/when I upgrade, it will be to something with flash and personality. That's one the one thing I don't like about the plain Jane Aklot. The Flight comes in a variety of wild colors, and the Winzz comes in four sensible colors.
Thanks for the quick comparison on these. I haven’t played a couple of these. We have companies like Kala to thank for the quality improvement we’ve seen over the last 5 years. They set the standard, and all the companies are working to match or exceed those standards. Thanks for all your work, Lisa! P.S. I love the Flight Travel Ukuleles
Any time! The instrument that I own that I really dislike is a Kala. I got it about 3.5 years ago. Multiple issues with that instrument, so much so that when I think of selling, I feel guilty.
What a timely video, with Christmas just weeks away! With the Flight being plastic and easy to clean, it will be a great choice for anyone, especially if it is to be a shared instrument. Great review video with honest comparisons!
The Flight gig bag doesn't bother me too much since I will just replace it anyway. I think I will order a Flight ukulele from Amazon. I liked the sound of that second one as well. It sounded very nice! Great video! Thank you.
They are nice ukuleles for the durability and price. I donated a bunch to a music therapist as part of what I do through Patreon and she's super happy with them.
Thanks for this video! I was so unsure about the quality of the cheaper ukuleles I had seen on the internet, but seeing this, I am now convinced I can buy one (Winzz, another model but I guess it can't differ that much in quality). My daughter is probably still a little young (4 1/2), but if she doesn't like it and doesn't regain motivation in 1 or 2 years, I didn't lose a lot of money and maybe I will get into playing a little myself! Thanks again :)
What a superb review. Any one looking for their first ukulele or buying a gift can't go wrong with these selections. I also appreciate you pointing our favorite and the favorite of your neighbors, the guitar player and your hubby as well. If at all possible, it's great if one can go in person to pick out their ukulele. But if you can't do that, go with a dealer who will set up and tune the instrument (and put on strap buttons) before they send it out.
Thank you kindly! I totally agree with getting one in person. The only problem is that some of the $50 instruments I have found at music stores, weren't as good as these.
i have that winzz ukulele i have 2 ukeleles my first one was a rayzam ukulele its white ontop and brown on the sides and back the winnz one has some sory of grip on the tuning pegs
I purchased on Amazon in Aug 2022 an inexpensive starter ukulele. It is a Hola HM 21 Soprano in tigerwood for $49. It has good Aguila strings. It was a bundle with a good beige gig bag, 2 strap buttons installed & a nice print strap. It is pretty. Looks like good genuine wood veneer with markings. It even has ivory binding on side top & bottom. Very light - slightly less than a pound. Now after 2 & a half months, it is playing better. It stays in tune well, but the strings felt tight. I think action is bit too low. For price, I recommend it. But, I found the price is $10 more now. I am in process of moving up to a slightly more expensive soprano ukulele, a Kala.
I had a young student with an Hola soprano and I was really surprised at how good it sounded. Glad you had a good experience. I have a Kala, and I got a Koa wood, electrified version with a cutaway body. I did have to tinker around with it, and even took it to a luthier to fix the action. I really enjoy playing it now. If you'd like to hear it, check out my latest video - Happy Together.
Cool! Good to hear from you Andrew. Come join one of our Saturday jams. 9 pm your time. We usually go for an hour - hour and 15 minutes. It would be great to meet with you virtually.
I bought a Caramel beginner ukulele. Solid top mahogany. Soprano $35.99 on Amazon. Padded gig bag, tuner, strap, strings. I’m surprised for the price. Of course I know nothing about ukuleles. Have you heard of this brand? My co-worker loved mine so I bought her one too and we really have fun playing very simple songs for our preschool class.
These instruments made me think about getting a soprano for myself. Good to hear from you Alisa. Come join one of our Saturday jams. It would be great to get together with you virtually.
@@TheUkuleleFool I would love it. Unfortunately , the timing is never right for me. Saturday’s are for the Hubby and family as I work week days. It’s been rough because I also broke my ankle in August. Just started physical Therapy and then I sprained my toe on the same foot! We lost another family member (3). It’s been crazy, but I still find time to play daily! The ukulele is one of my therapies with every new song you give us! Thank you for your kind heart and thinking of me! You are a beautiful giver with a beautiful soul.
I have the flight travel ukulele not very impressed with it. I never play it not keen on the tone . If you are starting out it's finger friendly, sorry that's about all I can positively say about it.
I understand. I wouldn't get one for myself, but for my charity project it is a wonderful instrument. Come join us on Patreon. Help us get instruments into the hands of those who could really benefit.

It is a golden age. I was so surprised. I hear you on the plain jane. My Martin is about as generic as you could get in appearance. No style points.

Great review Lisa. A few there I have not heard of before.
Me neither - Winzz?? I just took a gamble. Who knew?
Mostly good shockers. Thanks Lisa. I am impressed and happy with my Aklot Banjolele too.
Rock on Jock!!!
Hi Lisa, I got an Akalot tenor

No, I haven't heard of this brand. I'll look into it. Thanks. I just donated 10 Winzz ukuleles to a program a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking at sopranos lately. I keep going back to the flight for my granddaughter.
