It’s nice to see some people still talking about SMT1. It’s massively underrated, even with its shortcomings. On one hand, I want to say that this game deserves a remake really badly. On the other hand, I really don’t think ‘modern’ game design philosophy would be able to recapture the experience. At least we have SMT4 to fill that space to some degree.
I still stand by the fact that SMT1 has one of the most fun stories in the franchise, in spite of how simplistically it’s told. I had a ton of frustration back when I played it but I really did enjoy it looking back on everything. Haven’t got around to playing the PS1 version yet, but it’s definitely on my backlog.
I'm currently working towards a few other projects, but I will definitely get to SMT 2 eventually and thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I put a lot of time and effort into it and I'm glad that people enjoyed it! 🙏
I like this game just for the strange vibe between calming but horrifying in how everything is just quiet for most of the game, fitting a post-apocalypse. That's part of the reason why the Ruins theme is one of my favourite themes in the game. The generally low difficulty due to the overpoweredness of guns, ice and thunder magic is honestly very nice so I can just have fun and be calm. 5:05 It's always funny to me that some glitchless speedruns of the PCS port of this game actually have to use Magic on the protag and speed (Literally his only stats for a while) because Hama Arrows are just absolutely insane in that version.
Gotta love that whenever a new one comes out or gets announced people come out of the wood works and start playing and checking out the old games. Everyone do yourself a favor and Play Strange Journey (you can play any of them but the original is my favorite) SMT 4 (God forbid you can get a copy and have a 3DS) And Majin Tensei 2
@@GreyLumos fair enough man, actually I’m playing the neutral route rn and there’s something you should do if you continue the series, talk about good demons, including Cerberus who despite being weaker then endgame demons is still good enough to stand among them as a bit weaker
Sorry for double comment but I just beat this game as a chaos boy the other day. This game is an incredible piece of gaming history, it’s flawed, it’s difficult, it’s stressful, it’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s addictive, it’s anything and everything to expect of a great rpg of the time
19:38 reminds me of FMA ;; I feel like you had some repeating sentences though like in 51:11 - might be just oddly spoked out though Overall its a really interesting video though, was kinda neat to learn about SMT 1, especially cuz I most likely wouldn't have played it myself

nah, smt 1 only works as what it is, a classic dungeon crawler, any modern remake would just change it to something else
I'd take a multiplatform release/remaster over a remake tbh, not everything really needs a remake just because its old.
I found your channel by the algorithm. This is such a well put together video! I'll be waiting for the SMT 2 Retrospective 😁

FYI I’m kidding: What a gamer moment “we are now alone with a woman, it’s a sad day” 😂😂😂
There is nothing more important than hanging out with the homies!

Thank you so much Ellen 🙏
Gotou my beloved.💜
I was surprised that the demon race was in Japanese even in the English version.
I wondered how english players understood races.
Awesome video I love the smt series

It's kinda hilarious how almost nothing Steven is compared to later titles
He becomes such a giga Chad later on
"Later titles"? He appears in smt 1 and 2, skip 3 and then 4 and 4 apocalypse??????
@@memoryofsalem4474 He also shows up in SMT NINE
reeeeeeeeeeee
I really loved this video, but I absolutely can't understand what you're saying with your accent almost every 8 seconds 😢
