      Thanks Tubi and thanks Darren. Watched Pitch Black again last month, and it's held up quite nicely. We should have to pay to see Blade Runner and Hurt Locker. Cool Hand Luke still amazing. Now it's time to go watch A Simple Favor and Domino for the first time. Thanks for the recommends.

      I 100% agree with the title. Too bad their app is pure f**king garbage, at least on iOS. Clicking on any movie or show to read the description causes it to immediately begin playing in a small window, which is incredibly distracting and irritating. All the worse, it cannot even be paused. I stopped using Tubi because browsing content is a chore and it seems every decision they make regarding the app only makes the user experience worse. I’ll stick with other streaming services until they fix what they’ve broke.

    TUBI ROCKS. I watch nothing but Tubi. The ads are never a problem. They are smart because most of the ads are super short. So even if you need to watch 6 ads it flys by. I just keep my phone near me to google or order something and have the time I forget the movie is back on. Tubi is phenomenal

    My brother is a professional drummer in Taiwan. He knows the man that JK Simmons played in Whiplash. He told me they actually had to tone his character down for the movie. At one point, he actually threw a chair at the drummer, and it hit him in the back.

    I'm not sure if someone has already said this, but the reason Tubi gets all those great flicks is likely due to the ads. Tubi is great! Let's just hope they keep the commercials as they are. They're nowhere near as bad/obnoxious as regular TV. Though, I will add that they should mix ads up so you're not seeing the same ones over and over. Seems like that is happening some of the time here as of late.

    • @mikecook7683

      thank you i was about to ask if tubi had ads

    • @stanphillips7277
      @stanphillips7277 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All the ads seem to be super bright on top of being repetitive. Sometimes the little ad circle that counts down how many seconds before the ads will start gets stuck at zero.
      So you can watch the movie ad free but, I find it to be so distracting having that little "An ad in 0 seconds" little orange ⭕ circle stuck in the bottom left corner I'll stop, back out, and restart and sure enough it goes straight to an ad .
      I do like how Tubi picks up where you left off though.
      Darren lately had been glorifying how good Freevee is but, that service hits you with an ad _literally_ within the first 2 minutes and what's worse is how arbitrarily; how random they have them placed . Worst of all though is they come back from ads and you can tell you missed a couple of seconds of dialogue.
      I'm not sure what it would take to make me watch another movie on Freevee again. A few words is editing!
      So Tubi overall or by comparison isn't as good as it could be but, it's still the best free ad driven service IMHO.✌️❤️🙏🎬

    • @acasualcritic8759
      @acasualcritic8759 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Stan Phillips I haven't had the ad timer remain on screen any luckily, that would be annoying.
      I attempted Freevee a couple of times, and yeah, the way they just randomly throw in their ads is annoying and does exactly what you stated. Tubi definitely times theirs much better, and they don't seek to last as long.
      I'm sure the devs will improve Tubi in time the more popular it gets. Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed. I watch it more than the other streaming services anymore because they have far more stuff that I actually wanna watch.

    • @stanphillips7277
      @stanphillips7277 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@acasualcritic8759 Yeah, so it's not just me when it comes to Freevee . I mean I _knew_ it but, the way Darren has been talking about how much better Freevee is than Prime it's good to have a reply to confirm it. I appreciate it.
      I wonder if he's been getting a little monetary reward for all the promotion he's given Freevee that used to go to Tubi.
      Dedicated videos and shorts all praising Freevee over Prime.
      He's probably right about the selection on Freevee over Prime but, that's not saying much at all 😂
      It's the ads and the _editing_ of just a couple of words here and there so maybe some won't notice or even care but me!
      That's the equivalent of just a little bit off the corner of the mouth of the Mona Lisa. It's either unedited or it's edited not 99% unedited. That 1 % is enough to call it edited . You throw in these random commercial breaks and yeah, Tubi may not be perfect but, between their selection and their seemingly caring approach to where and how they approach their ads Tubi still is the best of the free services by far, and I have Prime, Showtime and HBO Max right now (the latter 2 free trial periods are ending soon) and still find myself watching Tubi.
      HBO Max is good but, it's expensive. Huge selection of quality content but, I'm at a point where I've seen practically every movie worth seeing and if you can navigate Tubi, if they improve as you said I'm not gonna' miss Showtime.
      HBO Max I'll miss more because they have some movies that are reliably rewatch-able but, once in a while I stumble across some "Hidden Gem" where I don't know how it ends!
      Those are few and far between though.
      I've seen everything on Darren's list outside of Queen of the Damned and I'm just not interested.
      Daren's an action movie guy. I need something with a decent narrative, characters I care about, etc ..
      Action for actions sake I couldn't care less.
      Anyway, enough outta me Casual Critic 😂
      Thanks for the response my friend ✌️♥️🎸🎶🤣🙏

Looper, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Whiplash, Blade Runner, and Blade Runner 2049 on 4k blu-ray have amazing video transfers & outstanding audio (7.1 surround or Dolby Atmos tracks). I'm not a purist, but chopping those edges off for TV just DESTROYED the amazing visual perfection of that film. Seriously. Also, I had only seen the film on my shitty TV with its one inch speaker. I expect that I am in the minority here but I think 2001 is incredibly tedious, visually stunning yes, amazing theme yes but so many times I thought the scene lingered way longer than necessary. I have seen many slow paced movies that don't rely on crash/bang action that I really liked but not 2001. Other than that there are many of my favourite movie in this list.

    I went to TUBI and did a search for "The Hurt Locker" but it's not there...
    Have NOT watched "Apocalypse Now" but only because it's still hard for me to watch anything that recalls Vietnam... Maybe I'll give it a try and see if I can watch all the way through without falling apart (knew guys that went and, well, didn't come home or did but... ).
    By the way, I saw "2001: A Space Odyssey" the year it came out (1968) and remember almost all of it. Think I'll have to have another look soon... If only Hal would open the damned pod bay doors!!
    Also "Unforgiven" was great; think I'll take another look at that one, too - been watching and enjoying Clink Eastwood since he was "Rowdy Yates" on "Rawhide" - yes, I am THAT old!
    Oh, "Whiplash" was, in a word, AMAZING... As a musician, it hit home in a big way! I might watch that one again.
    LIKE your lists... and now, I'm making my own of what I'd like to see, again or for the first time.

    If you're a Nirvana fan Tubi has a documentary called "Soaked in Bleach" that'll convince you that Courtney Love had Kurt murdered. Even the lead investigator (The Seattle Sheriff who oversaw the investigation) says he botched the investigation and he'd do it differently if he could go back. 1 quote stuck with me (amongst many other things said and evidence that surfaced) was "If you want to get away with murder... murder a junkie"
    If you want something lighter "Rock of Ages" had an all star cast from including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta Jones, Russell Brand, and more. If you love rock and roll (80s in particular but, not limited to) it's the most fun I've had and I normally can't stand musicals but, this is different. I rarely laugh out loud (almost never lately?) but, this movie really had me laughing and smiling and singing the whole way through 🤣✌️♥️🎸🎶🙏🎬

      @@tarico4436 I used to indent my paragraphs but, I think you can see the separation just the same and yeah, it never occurred to me. I don't think Alec got away with murder in the O.J. sense . From what I understand it was an unfortunate accident that he's not as responsible for as the props Dept. Last I heard nobody really knew how the live ammo made it onto the set and into his gun . [End of Paragraph 🤣]
      In any case at some point we can laugh at a tragedy right?
      Abraham Lincoln jokes are fine. Alec Baldwin? Still kinda fresh I think but, I doubt he's going to do a deep dive into the comments on Flix Connection right, so sure I guess it's alright.

    I find interesting that Robocop aged well, what is not common for that type of movies at that time.
    In 2001 I find interesting that (I don't know if it was intended) that all people are anodyne, mostly devoid of emotions, uninteresting, to the point you ask yourself if it was a stylistic decision, bad acting (I doubt because this is consistent through all characters), or what, and the most human character in the movie is HAL.
